What a trend for the last few years here in Bangkok, Thailand

Shrimp bucket, seafood bucket, chicken bucket?.. Everything bucket! I don’t think I had tried many times or not at all? I was just wondering why not the normal plates? Hey! I just went to one at Ratchada Rot Fai Night Market here in Bangkok! It was fun!

Seems like it’s dirty but hey, probably not.

It’s a different way of eating. I’m sure you would be like, ‘Whatttt??’ Yes, you will! The place we stopped by for epic dinner meal called ‘Kung Thep (กุ้งเทพ)

Kung (กุ้ง) means shrimp
Thep (เทพ) means angel

Once you sit down, look at the menu and order, they lay down a big piece of waxed paper on a table for you. Ready for a bucket of seafood to be poured onto.and the bucket’s kept on the table as a trash can. Getting a bit dirty and messy, you think? Then pairs of plastic gloves will be given.

Whoa! Mind blown!! Eating with hands without getting them dirty Who came up with this!!?

Seafood and ribs

Who doesn’t like seafood?! and who doesn’t like ribs?!

2 main things they offer and looks super delicious are these seafood and ribs with intense flavoured bbq sauce. We could choose the sizes, types of seafood to put in a bucket and how spicy it is. We went for the most spicy one but still, not so spicy at all.

Those costed us 800THB ($26) and to be honest, that was not enough food. We ate some more afterward but that was such a good start and unique way of eating!

The place was so packed (That’s a good sign!) with both Thais and foreigners. If you’d love to try something like this, it totally doesn’t have to be at this exact spot as really, they sell it in many other places as well. ‘Kung Thep’ sure is one of the good ones out there so I recommend you check it out if you ever come visit Ratchada Rot Fai Night Market.

There’s another cool spot to go get weird food here at the market, check out ‘ Grilled pig intestines stuffed with eggs‘!

Surprises

Traveling through Thailand, a lot of people probably expect something weird/odd. Something they’ve never seen or tried. For me, not much, as I have been living in Thailand for my whole life but.. Believe it or not, small surprises happen every single day.

Do you eat pig intestines ?

The other night at Ratchada Rot Fai Night Market, I found grilled pig intestines (ไส้ย่าง).. I know the USA kinda throw those away or feed them to dogs. What about where you’re from? Do you guys grill them or deep fry them like we do here in Thailand?

The intestines itself wouldn’t ‘hmm’ me so much as we usually have that and they’re sold in all the market / Isaan restaurant (North Eastern Thai style food). This is not one of those regular ones! It’s grilled pig intestines stuffed with eggs! New to me!

L.A. Grilled intestines (ไส้ย่างแอลเอ)

The shop called ‘L.A. Grilled intestines’ and makes sense that the sign in front of their shop also claims that they are the first one in Thailand that does this! I really have never seen this elsewhere. They also say..

Not chewy, not bitter. The intestine fan must try!

As usual, the sauce we eat with the pig intestine is something called ‘Nam Jim Jaew (น้ำจิ้มแจ่ว)‘ The nicely blended sauce with tamarind sauce, fish sauce, chilli powder, lime, cilantros.

10 THB ($0.3) per screwer.

I love the initiative, the love and passion they have for intestines. To be honest, I am one of the intestine fans. It’ s yummy! Though, I would still prefer the regular ones without eggs stuffed as it gives more of the intestine flavours. My Korean friend who loves the intestines say the same thing.

I would still recommend you give it a go! Why not!?
