Just like its name, it’s the rice dish served on banana leaves! Some of you may find that exotic and some are probably used to it already. I had eaten like these before many times and a lot of snacks / dessert in Asia use banana leaves as food wrappers / containers. Though, I was still pretty excited to once again try this must-try dish, Banana leaf rice, when in Malaysia.

BANANA LEAF RICE IS A TRADITIONAL METHOD OF SERVING RICE DISHES IN SOUTH INDIAN CUISINE

Malaysia has quite a number of immigrations. One of those is South Indians. That’s the reason why there are some influences, like, this way of eating and that Homemade Indian snacks we came across the other day.. Super duper good!

BANANA LEAF RICE IN KUALA LUMPUR

While we’re in Malaysia and Singapore, last time. Kevin craved Indian food all the time so we hit quite a lot of good spots up. This one in Kuala Lumpur is one of the most famous ones. Restoran Devi’s Corner, literally just a min walk from another well-known spot for Banana Leaf Rice, Sri Nirwana Maju Restaurant Bangsar. Not so close not so far from the Colourful Little India.

We actually wanted to dine at Sri Nirwana Maju Restaurant Bangsar due to the higher rating on Google. Yes, that how it goes nowadays. It was just too busy with a long line in front the place. There, we ended up at Restoran Devi’s Corner and no, we’re not disappointed at all.

RESTORAN DEVI’S CORNER

The place has two levels. The first floor is open-air with some food choices. More like a food court. We asked for their Banana leaf rice and right away got sent up stairs to experience the real deal.

AIR-CON ROOM AWAY FROM THE MALAYSIAN HEAT. ALMOST ALL THE TABLES WERE OCCUPIED. THE FRIENDLY INDIAN STAFFS. MANY TYPES OF CURRY PREPARED.

I’m pretty sure all of the staffs and people who work there are all Indian. Some couldn’t speak English but they took orders. That’s probably the reason why we got all the extra food we didn’t really expect to show up. Steps are easy : They get you a banana leaf, they put on some rice. Then, the rotation of the curry serving will come ask if you’s like any curry on your banana leaf at all.

We got a few types. They were all pretty delicious. Not too intense of the curry tastes but it’s flavourful and enjoyable. When in Indian restaurant, do like Indians do. Use the hands! Mix it all around with our own hands, scoop the food with small little fingers then put it awkwardly in to your mouth.

NO, THAT’S NOT THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO EAT BUT WE KEEP TRYING

INDIAN STYLE CALAMARI AT RESTORAN DEVI’S CORNER

How come it’s an Indian Style Calamari..? I think it’s pretty unique the way they serve their deep fried squid with some other gimmicks going on over there. Oh! Look at the colour too! That’s like intense orange!

Super duper good with the spices they put in the batter. Plus+ those red onion pieces and small little lime if you’d love it even more flavourful.

That mysterious small bowl of curry also showed up. Without knowing what it was exactly, it’s still so dang good. It’s thick, it’s creamy and it’s spiceful!

Due to the miscommunication, we got that much food for just 2 of us. This was literally the first, the one and only time Kevin said ‘No’ to my leftover.

If you in Kuala Lumper then sure this place, Restoran Devi’s Corner, would be good for experiencing Banana Leaf Rice. Just go slow when ordering. They’re not that small of a portion Restoran Devi’s Corner
