Visiting Ayutthaya, a city of history and culture with a Budget of 1,200 Baht

(2 Days 1 Night)

This time, we went to a whopping number of places, including 13 temples, 1 floating market, and 1 cafe. It may seem like we went to so many temples, but it wasn't boring at all. Each and every temple has its own unique characteristics that you can't miss. However, if you are planning on visiting Ayutthaya during this time, I recommend you to take an umbrella and wear a hat as the weather is very hot that I thought I was going to melt.

First Day of the trip:
- Wat Maha That
- Wat Chaiwatthanaram
- Wat Ratchaburana
- Wat Phra Si Sanphet
- Wat Phra Ram
- Wat Maheyong
- Wat Kudidao
- Wat Chakkrawad

After the first day, we continued on the second day:
- Wat Phanan Choeng
- Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon
- Ayothaya Floating Market
- Wat Lokayasutharam
- Viharn Phra Mongkhon Bophit
- Saint Joseph's Church
- Busaba Cafe & Meal

This time we went to so many temples, but we still haven't visited all temples in Ayutthaya. Next time, we will surely come back to see all of them. So, see you next time in Ayutthaya!

We began this trip at the first temple "Wat Maha That". Just looking at the photo, you can see that this temple is a must-visit, as it is the important check-in spot of Phra Nakon Si Ayutthaya.

We bought a 6-temple pass ticket for 40 baht.

1. Wat Maha That
2. Wat Chaiwatthanaram
3. Wat Ratchaburana
4. Wat Phra Si Sanphet
5. Wat Phra Ram
6. Wat Maheyong

I bought this ticket at Wat Maha That, but I'm not sure if other temples also have it for sale or not.

Wat Mahathat is one of the temples in Ayutthaya's Historical Park, and it was one of the most important temples during the Ayutthaya period, because it is the temple where the Buddha's relics were placed in the center of the capital. It was also the residence of His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch of the Kamawasi. Therefore, this temple had been constructed and taken care of until its destruction and abandonment after the second defeat of Ayutthaya.

Let's continue to the second temple: Wat Chaiwatthanaram.

The 3rd temple: Wat Ratchaburana

Wat Ratchaburana is located right next to Wat Mahatat to the east and a little distant from the old palace. It is one of the largest and oldest temples in Phra Nakon Si Ayutthaya, and was built was Somdet Phra Barommarachatirat II or Chao Sam Phraya.

The 4th temple: Wat Phra Si Sanphet

Wat Phra Si Sanphet used to be the royal temple of the old palace, Ayutthaya.

The 5th temple: Wat Phra Ram

The 6th temple: Wat Maheyong

It is now the 7th temple: Wat Kudidao

It was built in the time of King Narai the Great and was renovated during the time of King Barommakot.

The final temple of today : Wat Chakkrawad

It is just right next to Wat Kudidao.

We begin the new day with Wat Phanan Choeng as the 9th temple.

We continue with the 10th temple Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon

Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon's was also known as Wat Pa Kaew or Wat Chao Tai.

Now it is noon, so let's go Ayothaya Floating Market to find something to eat.

Let's continue our trip! We have now reached the 11th temple:  Wat Lokayasutharam

The 12th temple is Viharn Phra Mongkhon Bophit. This temple is located to the south of Wat Phra Si Sanphet. It's important feature is that it has old chapel located within the city walls that has been well-renovated. Inside the chapel, there is a very large Buddha that has been damaged in the second defeat of Ayutthaya. However, it has been renovated completely with bronze covered in gold as we can see in the present day.

The final temple of this trip is Saint Joseph's Church.

Saint Joseph's Church in Ayutthaya is the first Roman Catholic church in Thailand. It is located by the Chao Phraya River.

We were getting hungry, so we went to Busaba Cafe & Meal. The photos alone were already making us hungry. Those who want to follow our trip can continue to the post below:
