Welcome Drink at the Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Taken on Google Pixel XL 2

Originally, we had planned a holiday trip to Bali Indonesia, but as many of you have probably heard recently in the news there is an erupting volcano happening. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our entire trip and shift to a different destination. We decided to go back to Phuket for the fourth time this year and we wanted somewhere spectacular to make up for a long awaited trip. We decided to stay at the Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas in Villa 66 for 4 Days and 3 nights. We had a truly amazing experience here! We traveled with our 1 year and ½ baby and she enjoyed every moment of this trip with amazing service, food, and beautiful sunset.

Location : Conveniently located in the Mai Khao area in Phuket Thailand next to a small shopping complex with a mini mart called Turtle Village [I believe it’s owned by the same property/management]. You’ll be able to find all the things you need to get from baby food, to imported snacks, flip flops, etc. Do note that the mini mart here is a bit overprice at about 80-100% but it’s not to say that it’s not affordable [Still cheaper than the mini bar in the hotel]. There is also a wide variety of restaurants in walking distance in this area including a few in turtle village too which gives you cheaper dining options.

Beach : Mai Khao Beach is a beautiful beach which is preserved by the national park Sirinat National Park. it’s a more quiet setting with a separation a small grass field and a few trees between the beach and the hotel. The hotel is literally right on the beachfront and is about less than 100 meters in walking distance. You will get beautiful sunset views and pretty well maintained beaches [meaning clean]. I do have to say that the tides are a bit rough in this area and probably not the best idea to go swimming in. High tide rises quite fast so be aware of this. Also the beach is not a private beach but an open one for the public. All hotels in this area have pretty much the same view and same distance and separation of grass and trees from each hotel including JW Marriott, Renaissance, and The Sala. Great place to hangout in the morning before noon and in the evening for sunset!

Room : We originally booked a pool villa but was upgraded to the lagoon pool villa [very very nice of them] The other room type that is higher than the the lagoon pool villa is the Sala Villa. All three types have pretty much the same layout but with different views and a possible additional Sala over the Lagoon. As a FYI none of the rooms have a sea view but you will be set in a more tropical setting and closed off area for privacy. The rooms and the pool was well decorated and very impressive. When you first walk in you really do get that WOW factor and I’m letting you know that the rooms are a lot bigger than what you see in the picture! There is even an open area day bed for you to chill, hangout and even have lunch maybe? The scent and smell when you walk into the room is nicely done with Aromatherapy scents. The amenities are all well prepared as you would expect including LOTS of sea salt for the bath tub. Highlights of the room are definitely the outdoor bath tub that is placed in the pool and the out door shower! A Few minor maintenance in regards to the pool tiles might need to be done as I did accidentally kind of stabbed myself on my palm but other than that all was perfect.

Service : A hotel experience isn’t ranked by how it looks and it’s facilities but most importantly by it’s service. This place truly is a five star resort with very attentive staff [for the majority which I will get into later]. Our butler K.Fon was superb at showing us around the resort and the functionality of the room. She even went as beyond in having us being able to contact her via WhatsApp for anything that we might need including replenishing fruit baskets Truly appreciate her effort and sincerity.

Other thoughtful things would surely be the swimming ring that was prepared for our daughter on arrival which our daughter was truly thrilled about and also the La Sala Staff who gave our daughter bread baskets to feed the ducks and the fish in the lagoon.

Duck feeding at the Anantara Mai Khao Phuket. Taken by Google Pixel XL 2I also want to give a big shout out to K.Jina [Jiew] at the pool area [Who I believe she mentioned used to work in the Kids Club which is no longer in the resort area but in the Anantara vacation club area]. Went above and beyond in servicing us from getting day beds, taking our orders, and playing with our daughter. We stayed at the pool for most of the day so she was specifically the one person who we interacted the most with. On the other note we did feel that some of the staff members at the pool could have been more attentive in the service or taking food orders and because I don’t think they completely knew we were Thai a lot local/interesting conversation and language was thrown around which we heard. Other than that I would say service was pretty on spot.

Food: We had Breakfast Buffet, Dinner at the La Sala, and in room dining for two nights. The La Sala specifically served us beautiful delicious Thai Dinner Meals and a wonderful buffet breakfast full a wide selection of food [Egg Benedict as usual is our test to see how impressive food is and it surely was well made].Everything was nicely prepared and well done. Fast and efficient. The only thing to complain about is probably the price of the food but it’s expected in a Five star Hotel…It’s just that it’s price at least about 15-20% higher than other five star resorts ex. Thai dishes ranging from about 350-650 THB per plate. Luckily our booking included 15% hotel credit of what we spent for the booking

Picture Taken at Ananatara Mai Khao Phuket[Credit : themlife.me | Ananatara Mai Khao Phuket Review]Other : What else is there to say… The pool here might not be as grand as you would hope it to be as all the rooms from what I understand have private pools but it serves it’s purpose. I believe a variety of activities are offered around the resort and also tour packages are available too! I would say this is a resort mostly for people who want to spend time relaxing at the hotel which was perfect for us [especially for the price you’re paying for :D]

  • Beautiful Sunset
  • Free Bikes to ride around the resort very convenient + with baby seat!
  • Incredible service, thoughtfulness, and sincerity
  • Great Location

Cons :

  • has somewhat of a seaview from the pool but that’s due to restrictions

  • Food is quite pricey

Final Thoughts & Tips : Definitely would recommend this hotel to anyone considering especially for couples who want to have a relaxing retreat! You should definitely get breakfast with your stay! Come early as day beds go quite quick…and enjoy lunch right on your pool bed! Have a romantic dinner in your pool villa! Try out some of the other restaurants nearby at turtle village and definitely stock up from the Mini Mart there [or before you come].

Again a truly amazing experience. I’m SOLD! If this experience is an indication of what to expect at other places then Anantara/Minor chain is in my toplist of consideration for my next vacation.

We hope you enjoyed our review and hope you decide to choose The Anantara Mai Khao Phuket for your next stay
