Jogasaki Coast - Fresh breeze from the ocean

When people say about Tokyo,It is all about Fashion,shopping,business or food and etc. This trip, I want to get out the mass from Tokyo metropolitans. Ito city came up to my head after I had visited "Hakone and Kawaguchiko lake".

Ito (伊東, Itō) is a famous hot spring resort town on the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture. Due to its easy accessibility from Tokyo , the town is partially quite built-up, but also offers some historic buildings in its center, such as the Tokaikan, a historic, former ryokan open to the public. Outside the town center, Ito offers quite impressive natural scenery with its cliffy coast and hilly terrain. About ten kilometers south of central Ito is Izu Kogen, a popular villa district and sightseeing destination with many small museums, restaurants, Mount Omuro (It was closed at that day) and the beautiful Jogasaki.

I booked one night in Ito city. It was about 20 mins walk up from Ito Train station. If you will come from Tokyo,you can check this link. This is the train website which you can search all schedule.

The bus took an hour to Jogasaki-Guchi bus stop .

walking 10 mins then, I found the sign board.

The Jogasaki Coast, Jogasaki Kaigan in Japanese, is a rugged stretch of dark volcanic cliff coastline on the eastern shore of the Izu Peninsula southwest of Tokyo and Yokohama. It is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and at the same time, part of the Izu Peninsula Geo Park.

Jogasaki Coast Geological History

The Izu Peninsula is a very active seismic zone. The most recent volcanic eruption on a scale so enormous that it drastically re-defined the geography of the whole area took place about 4,000 years ago. At that time, molten lava spewing from a crater built up right around its source, all the way up to 580 meters. The result of this build-up is today's Mount Omuro, located a few kilometers behind the Jogasaki Coast.

However, not all the lava stayed close to its source. Much of it crashed right into the ocean, creating in the long run the fertile plain between Mount Omuro and the coastline. The Jogasaki Coast marks the furthest reaches the molten lava made into the sea.

4,000 years is a short time in geological terms. Too short a period for the ocean waves to smooth out the bizarre features of the gigantic mass of lava encountering the sea.

I walked along the walk path and enjoyed watching beautiful flower.

After I walk 20-mins from bus stop, I found another sign board and public toilet. It was like 1 Kilos.

I walked down to see the sea.

There was only one restaurant at the parking lot. It was closed at the day.

I liked the violet color.

I felt a bit tired ,then I should take a rest.

The ocean looks spectacular. I wish I could be on that boat.

The most popular section of the hiking trail is located around the 23 meter long and 48 meter high Kadowakizaki Suspension Bridge. Not far from the bridge stands also a lighthouse with a freely accessible observation deck from where visitors can view the beautiful coastline and Oshima Island when visibility allows. A parking lot is located near the suspension bridge and at a couple of other points along the trail.
