Sanam Chandra Palace,

is built in 1907 in Nakhon Pathom which has a beautiful park full of giant trees and perfectly manicured lawns winding around ponds and lakes, located fifty kilometers west of Bangkok. Before ascending the throne, the then Crown Prince Vajiravudh (later H. M. Thub Kwan Residence

The Thub Kwan Residence comprises of a number of traditional Thai wooden houses. The houses were used for different purposes, some as bedrooms, one was a reception hall, another one was used as a kitchen, others were used as servants rooms or for storage. The houses were built from golden teak wood using the timber joint-and-notch method, which means no nails were used.

This beautiful green park features five remarkable buildings of French, English and typical Thai construction, called the Chaleemongkolasana Residence, the Bhimarn Prathom Residence, the Samakkeemukamartaya Hall, the Mareerajaratabulung Residence and the Thub Kwan Residence.

Mareerajaratabulung Residence

The Mareerajaratabulung Residence was built by King Rama VI in 1916. The two story golden teak wood structure built in European neo classical style is connected to Chaleemongkolasana Residence by a covered footbridge across the moat.

The main building is called 'The Chaleemongkolasana Residence'. In 1908, this residence was built in the integration of 2 arts which are French renaissance and English half-timber bridge to the Mareerajaratabulung Residence, a set of Thai traditional teak wood houses built on the other side. The castle itself is not very large and includes a bedroom, living room and study room.. This residence was adapted for Thai weather atmosphere. At that time, the residence was named “Yah Leh Residence” which came from the name of King Rama 6 (King Vajiravudh)’s dog.

In 1915, King Rama 6 gave the name for this residence which is Charliemongkolasana residence that means “the auspicious residence of Charlie”. This residence was used for the residence of King Rama 6 when he met the Wild Tiger Corps at Sanamchandra Palace. The residence looks like a reddish-yellow small castle which has 2 floors and red roof-tile. The dining room and the living room are on the first floor. The study room, the royal bathroom and the royal bed chamber are on the second floor. The Yah Leh monument is located in front of this residence. There is a bridge that links between the Charliemongkolasana Residence and the Maleeratanabanlang Residence (Thai style residence). These two residences are the combination of Thai and Western arts.
