Ren by Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai
Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai is one of the hotels that I really want to go. When they open a new Japanese restaurant "Ren", of cause I could not miss it. There is another Japanese Restaurant in Chiang Mai that people are familiar with called Tenkoku, one of the high class Japanese Restaurant in Chiang Mai. We will see which one is better.
If you ready, let's go together!!!!
Ren by Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai Tel. 053 888888 Open on Friday and Saturday from 6.00PM. to 9.00PM. Price is 950++ Baht (Net 1,119Baht) not including drinks.
People are curious if Ren is really good?
The advantages of Ren are as below:
1. Place; located in Dhara Dhevi Hotel Chiang Mai which is one of the most luxury hotels in Chiang Mai and because of that make the restaurant become a luxury restaurant too.
2. Price; for buffet in the 5 star hotel mostly starting at 2000++baht but Ren start at 950++baht. So it is not expensive.
3. Variety of food, there are more choices than other restaurant at the same class in Chiang Mai, especially quality and variety of raw fish such as Tuna, Salmon, Ikura, Unagi, Saba, etc. and variety of desserts.
"For me the highlight of Ren is Hotate or Scallop from Hokaido"
Are there any disadvantages?
Of cause, there are. Ren is a big Japanese buffet for 100 people, most of their hot meals are prepared in advance so it is not fresh cooking as we expect such as all kinds of Tampanyaki. All hot meals are weakness of Ren and they cannot change. For Tempura and other grilled menu, they can fix it quite well by cooking one by one. Then again it takes sometime because there are many people so we have to wait for a long queues.
"Another highlight is Fried Silver Fish Tempura" So yummy!!! I confirm.
Tampanyaki menus that just come out are still hot and taste good, but when you leave it for a while...
>< (I will not say anything it is for you to think about.....!!!!)
For Nasu Dengaku or Eggplant with Miso Glaze, I really like this menu but here makes me disappointed cannot compare with Tenkoku
"All grilled menus look great more than I expected but I have too wait quite long"
"When compare with Tenkoku which one is the best"
Being fair, both restaurants are using good quality of products. If you like Sushi, Sashimi, I would recommend Ren. For me, I really like fresh scallop. For people who like hot meals Tenkoku is the best for you because they cook one by one serve plate by plate.
So I would finalize that Ren is good for Sushi, Sashimi and Desserts. Tenkoku is good for all hot meals.
"Miso Macaroon and White Choc Wasabi Macaroon are the highlight for dessert" (Ice-cream is also provided in the buffet but I do not have a picture)
Buffet at Ren does not include drink.
(The hotel recommended 3 choices of cocktail which are Green tea spirit with Spy, Mango Mojito and another one I cannot remember the name, it likes liquor. I do not drink so I do not know about the taste^^)
This is a special menu for people who choose 1300++baht buffet; we can choose 1 of 3 sets.
(I have not tried any of them so I cannot tell anything about it >_< )
