Hello : Nakhon Phanom
If you ask me.. Which province in Thailand do I like the most? I would have to say this province "Nakhon Phanom" What do I like about it? I like the peacefulness of this city. Coupled with the nature that creates a relaxing atmosphere. The fact that Nakhon Phanom city itself is located along the banks of the Mekong River and the tourist attractions that are located along the Mekong River Road also makes for a very chill, slow, and leisurely travel experience.
I have had the opportunity to visit "Nakhon Phanom" many times, and each time I have gone with an airline promotion (mostly 0 baht promotions) that frequently offers this route. I must express my gratitude to all airlines that have opened this route, allowing me to experience this province, which I had "never considered" visiting before. However, after visiting and experiencing it, I must admit that I have fallen in love with this place. I frequently seek opportunities to visit whenever possible.
Therefore... In this review, I will take you on a trip to "Nakhon Phanom". I will compile and organize stories from my many visits to "Nakhon Phanom" into a sample travel program review. This review provides information that is (hopefully) easy to understand and can be adapted to your own needs. The approximate 2-day, 1-night Nakhon Phanom travel program is as follows:

Note 1: This review is a compilation of information from several trips I have taken, which is roughly the following program format.
I apologize in advance if any of the information is incorrect.
Note 2: This review is a compilation of images from various cameras, including DSLRs, digital cameras, and mobile phones.
The image quality may vary, depending on the source.
"Nakhon Phanom Province" is a province in the upper northeastern region of Thailand. It is considered a border town with abundant natural resources, beautiful scenery, diverse cultures and ethnicities, and a long history. When it comes to Nakhon Phanom Province, one must think of "Phra That Phanom", which everyone who visits Nakhon Phanom must pay their respects to at least once in their lifetime.
As you can see from the map, **"Nakhon Phanom"** has a northern and eastern border that runs along the Mekong River. In addition to exploring Nakhon Phanom itself, you can also cross the Mekong River into Laos. Because it is located on the Mekong River, Nakhon Phanom has a relaxing atmosphere along the banks of the Mekong. *Nakhon Phanom also has interesting traditions.*
For example, the tradition of floating fire boats, the annual grand ceremony of worshipping the Phra That Phanom stupa, etc.
**Nakhon Phanom** boasts a wealth of unmissable attractions and landmarks, primarily concentrated within the city center. These include stunning natural landscapes and historical sites that offer insights into the city's rich past. Notably, many of these destinations are conveniently located along the Mekong Riverfront, making them easily accessible by bicycle. **Renting a bike and cycling along the river** is a budget-friendly way to explore the area while immersing yourself in the local atmosphere and way of life. This is truly an unforgettable travel experience.
Every time I travel to "Nakhon Phanom", I usually go with AirAsia's 0 Baht promotion, which often has promotions on this route. This makes the trip very economical, even though I have to book long in advance and wait a bit longer. But it's worth it, since I have to book so far in advance. Due to the uncertainty, there may be some changes in the members who travel together. For example, in this case, I booked a long time ago and went to "Nakhon Phanom" with a group of 9 people. The total cost was 1444 Baht, which means the round-trip airfare was only 160 Baht per person!!
However.. We booked a total of 9 seats, but when the time came, some of us had to cancel due to commitments. So, only 6 of us were able to make the trip (55+). No problem though, we went cycling|eating|traveling and had a blast in "Nakhon Phanom".
For friends who love budget travel, come say hello and follow us.

[DAY 1] - Start your journey at "Don Mueang Airport"
I already checked in online, but I didn't print it out. So I came to re-print it again.
Currently, AirAsia has 2 flights to Nakhon Phanom per day, namely 8.30 AM and 3.10 PM. Of course, I took the morning flight.
Let's go!
Friends, let's go!
The journey from Don Mueang to Nakhon Phanom will take a little over an hour.
After a short flight with a view of the clouds, we have arrived at "Nakhon Phanom Airport".
How do I get to the city from Nakhon Phanom Airport? There are airport shuttle services available, or you can rent a car and drive yourself. There are rental counters located inside the airport near the exit.
From the airport to the city, it is about 10 kilometers. The fare is 100 baht per person/trip. (Please keep the phone number to call for a pick-up on the way back to the airport.)
We'll be entering the city in this car. (Previously, we used a van to enter the city, but now it's been changed to a bigger car. I guess there are a lot of tourists, hehe)
Sit back and relax as you enter the city. We can take you anywhere within the city limits.
For convenience, it is recommended to have a destination to inform the shuttle service where you want to be dropped off. It could be the hotel you booked or a place you are considering staying. This way, the shuttle service can take you directly to your destination. Alternatively, if you are feeling adventurous and don't know where to go, sometimes "the clock tower" is the answer.
You can get off at the "Clock Tower". It's considered a landmark or meeting point in Nakhon Phanom. But if possible, it's better to book accommodation in advance or have a place in mind. That way, you can check in, leave your bags, and go out sightseeing without any worries or wasting time...
Close to the "Clock Tower" is the "Indochina Market", which is right on the Mekong River.
This is the area for hired vehicles, both pick-up and drop-off. There are many Skylab taxis parked here. If you need their services, you can go and ask them.

Where is the best place to stay in Mukdahan?
Nakhon Phanom There are many accommodations available in the city center. It depends on what kind of accommodation you prefer. Near the market, near the walking street, or by the Mekong River. It depends on your needs. If you are looking for a popular accommodation, it would be 777 Hotel (Tong Jed), which is very popular. Tong Jed Hotel (3) is a new and clean hotel, but it is not located by the Mekong River. You have to walk a little further. (Personally, I have never stayed here because the hotel is always full. There are a lot of people staying here during the holidays.)
" Baan Pan Suk "
Among the places I've stayed and enjoyed, I'd like to recommend Baan Pan Suk Riverside Resort. What I like about this place is that it's right next to the Mekong River (just across the road). You can choose rooms with river views (front) or without views (back, but cheaper). The rooms are reasonably priced, spacious, look new, and very clean, with all the amenities you need. There are only a few rooms available. The price is 690 baht/night (river view room) and 590 baht/night (room without view), which is very good value for money. Another reason I like it is the friendliness and hospitality of the owner. They are very kind and make you feel at home. In front, you get the riverside atmosphere. When you wake up in the morning, there are snacks, breakfast, Chinese crullers, tea, coffee, Ovaltine available. You can sit and sip your morning coffee while enjoying the view of the Mekong River. It's fantastic! (Or if you want to borrow a bicycle to go shopping or to the market, they have free bikes available.) Nearby is also the "Kru Rin Spicy Salad Shop", where you can order some delicious food (same owner). If you like a relaxed, homey atmosphere, I highly recommend "Baan Pan Suk" on the banks of the Mekong River. ..
Another recommended accommodation is "First Hotel" (2), a very affordable accommodation option. This is perfect for groups of friends who are looking for a budget-friendly stay. Rooms start at 250-300 baht/night. Since you're coming with a group, this is the place to stay. The highlight is that it's located right next to the Clock Tower (1), which is also next to the walking street. Just a few steps away, you'll find the walking street (4) and the riverside restaurant area. It's very convenient. (This hotel also offers free Wi-Fi.)
Nakhon Phanom city is located right next to the Mekong River. Sunthonvichit Road is the main road that runs along the Mekong River.
With the Mekong River bordering the city, Nakhon Phanom has a very pleasant atmosphere. This area is the "Larn Phanum Nakha", where Nakhon Phanom people often come to relax and exercise in the morning and evening.
At the edge of the Siamese kingdom, where the Mekong River flows!
Looking across the Mekong River, you'll see Tha Khaek, Kham Mouan Province, Laos on the other side. On a clear day, you can see the beautiful mountain range on the Lao side, offering a panoramic view. (If you've been to Vang Vieng, you'll recognize the similar mountain landscape.) The view is truly stunning, and I love the atmosphere by the Mekong River. ^^
This area has boats available for Mekong River cruises. We will come back and sit here in the evening, as there is only one evening cruise available!
"Wat Okat" (6) is the closest temple to the "Clock Tower". You can go inside to worship the Buddha. It's not far from the Clock Tower.
To pay homage to Phra That Phanom Come to visit "Nakhon Phanom" One thing you must not miss is to pay homage to Phra That Phanom, which is located about 53 kilometers south of the city center. That is, you have to take a car out of town. But the journey is not difficult. Because there are buses running between Nakhon Phanom-Phra That Phanom all the time. Both Songthaew and Van Nakhon Phanom-Mukdahan (passing Phra That) This can also be selected. Which, if it's a van, it's definitely faster and more expensive. But if it's a songthaew, you'll get the atmosphere, see the views on both sides of the road. Talking to the villagers who are sitting together, you can also experience the way of life in another way.
"Hop on a songthaew" .. let's go!
Why hang on? The car is empty... let's sit down. The journey takes about an hour. The fare is 45 baht.
After sitting and enjoying the breeze and the view for almost an hour, we arrived at Wat Phra That Phanom Woramahawihan. The songthaew (shared taxi) dropped us off at the end of the line. As we walked past the shops selling clothes and souvenirs, we decided to get into the spirit of things and change into our uniforms...haha
Support the vendor got 1 each..hehe
"Phra That Phanom" is enshrined on the banks of the Mekong River, within the grounds of Wat Phra That Phanom Woramahawihan. It is the main stupa for those born on Sunday. It is believed that if one comes to pay respects even once, it will bring good luck and prosperity to one's life. Every year, there is a ceremony to pay homage to the stupa, starting from the 10th waxing moon of the 3rd lunar month to the 1st waning moon of the 3rd lunar month. The ceremony is held on a grand scale.

The beauty of Phra That Phanom
Once in a lifetime, I have come to pay homage to "Phra That Phanom" for auspiciousness in my life.
Worship the pagoda and make merit together ^^
Buddhist devotees have been coming to pay homage to the relics and make merit continuously. There are a lot of people, especially during the holidays.
Sit and relax while enjoying the atmosphere within the temple.
Buddhist devotees take photos with Phra That Phanom as a souvenir.
It is believed that worshipping the birthplace relics for all 7 days, which are all 7 relics in Nakhon Phanom Province, will bring good luck. The 7 birthplace relics are scattered throughout Nakhon Phanom Province, each relic is quite far apart and takes a considerable amount of time to travel to. Therefore, it is popular to worship the relics according to one's own birthday. They are as follows:
1. Phra That Phanom, the relic for Sunday, is located at Wat Phra That Phanom Woramahawihan, That Phanom District.
2. Phra That Renu, the relic for Monday, is located at Wat Phra That Renu, Renu Nakhon District.
3. Phra That Si Khun, the relic for Tuesday, is located at Wat That Si Khun, Na Kae District.
4. Phra That Mahachai, the relic for Wednesday, is located at Wat Phra That Mahachai, Mahachai Subdistrict, Pla Pak District.
(Phra That Muruk Khanakorn, the relic for Wednesday (night), is located at Wat Muruk Khanakorn, That Phanom District)
5. Phra That Phra Sit, the relic for Thursday, is located at Wat Phra That Phra Sit, Na Wa District.
6. Phra That Tha Uthen, the relic for Friday, is located at Wat Phra That Tha Uthen, Tha Uthen District.
7. Phra That Nakhon, the relic for Saturday, is located at Wat Maha That, Sunthon Wichian Road, Mueang District.
(Sign indicating the distance of the various relics from the front of Wat Phra That Phanom)
After paying respects at the stupa, I walked out to the front of the temple. Leaving the temple, I turned left to walk to the songthaew stand. From here, it is 53 kilometers from Nakhon Phanom city.
Before heading back to the city, let's grab a bite to eat.
From the map of Wat Phra That Phanom area
1 = Phra That Phanom
2 = Restaurant
3 = Area to wait for shared taxis and vans
I'm hungry.. Let's stop by for something to eat. It's lunchtime!
When visiting the Mekong River, you must try the Mekong River fish. We ordered only fish dishes, including fish with dipping sauce, crispy fried fish, and spicy fish soup.
After that, I waited for a car to return to the city. It will be a motorcycle taxi (3) Phra That - Nakhon Phanom or you can wait for a van. Vans running from Mukdahan to Nakhon Phanom But .. I'd rather take a motorcycle taxi. Get the atmosphere Sit and relax, enjoy the wind 55+
After about an hour, we arrived in the city center. We returned to the "Clock Tower" as usual (we returned to our base here as usual, hehe). This afternoon, we will be "cycling" around the city.
Following the cycling route to various tourist attractions in Nakhon Phanom, starting at the "Clock Tower", which is the Vietnamese Memorial Clock Tower. This clock tower was built by the Vietnamese people as a memorial to the people of Nakhon Phanom. It was built in 1960 when they moved back to their homeland, Vietnam. It is considered another symbol of Nakhon Phanom City. This is because when the French were defeated in the Dien Bien Phu War, the Vietnamese people took refuge in Nakhon Phanom. When the war ended, to show their gratitude to the Thai people, the Vietnamese people joined together to build the clock tower to commemorate the friendship between the people of Nakhon Phanom and the Thai people as a memorial.

1 = Clock Tower 2 = National Library of Nakhon Phanom 3 = Som Tum Khun Taeo Restaurant 4 = Governor's Residence Museum (Old Building) 5 = St. Anne's Church, Nong Saeng
To start cycling, you'll need to **"rent a bicycle"** first. This is not difficult at all, as the bicycle rental shop is located right next to the clock tower. The shop is yellow and very noticeable. They offer bicycle rentals for **10 baht per hour** or **50 baht per day**. * (If you plan to cycle for more than 5 hours, it's more economical to rent for the whole day.)*
The cycling route will follow the banks of the Mekong River, using Sunthonvichit Road, which is right next to the river. There is a dedicated lane for cyclists (dark color) in the picture, and the attractions are all located along the Mekong River, not far from each other. This makes #cycling along the Mekong River a truly atmospheric experience.
Let's start cycling. Just a few meters from the clock tower is a sign that everyone who comes here must stop to take a picture. The sign @Nakhon Phanom has the Mekong River and Laos as its backdrop.
Then, after about 1 kilometer, you will reach the "National Library of Thailand, Nakhorn Phanom".
It's a yellow building that stands out from afar.
**"The National Library of Thailand, Nakhon Phanom"** is a 3-story Renaissance-style building built in 1915. It was originally the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Hall, built of plastered brick with wooden floors and stairs. The yellow building is very beautiful.
This building was awarded the Outstanding Architectural Conservation Award in 1997 by the Association of Siamese Architects.
Anyone who loves taking pictures... shouldn't miss this! ^^
After that, we continued cycling, and along the way, there was a recommended restaurant called "Som Tum Khun Taeo" (3). It's an authentic Isaan som tum restaurant with delicious, clean food and a great atmosphere. They have a wide variety of som tum dishes, grilled fish, and grilled chicken (the dipping sauce is amazing!)
This grilled chicken is definitely a highlight, very delicious (I forgot to take a picture of the papaya salad, haha+).
Their dipping sauce is really amazing. Spicy!
**Finally...** I like this part where there's a hand washing station with fresh towels to dry your hands, so you don't have to reuse someone else's. There are also various kinds of soap to choose from, so you can be sure your hands won't smell. **You can really dig into your sticky rice and papaya salad without worry!** Hehe!
A leisurely bike ride along the Mekong River brings you to the "Nakhon Phanom Governor's Residence Museum", an architectural marvel influenced by French design during the Indochina War. The building boasts distinctive architectural features, including semicircular arched doorways, curved windows, and decorative stucco or carvings above the doors and windows. The structure is supported by large, square pillars, and the roof has a gentle slope.
Despite the building's age, it has been well-maintained and remains beautiful to this day.
Entering the building, you will be greeted by a journey through the legendary memories of the Old Nakhon Phanom Governor's Residence. The exhibition commemorates the governors of Nakhon Phanom from the first to the present, showcasing a collection of photographs and biographies of each governor.
This table can also be used as a photo spot for souvenirs!
There is an exhibition of old photographs called "Old Photos Tell Stories", which displays photographs that tell stories about Nakhon Phanom. It includes both the history and memories of Nakhon Phanom. It is presented as an interesting and informative video and documentary.
Nakhon Phanom has a diverse culture, with various ethnic groups and beautiful traditions that have been passed down through generations, fostering strong relationships between the two sides of the Mekong River.
Artifacts and antiquities on display in the museum
In the past, this governor's residence served as a grand lodging for His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen during their royal visit to Nakhon Phanom province. This event brought immense joy and pride to the people of Nakhon Phanom.
"A Night's Stay" The room where His Majesty stayed during his visit to Nakhon Phanom on the night of November 12, 1955.
Before leaving the building, there will be a souvenir shop. You can buy souvenirs of Nakhon Phanom there. There are key chains, pins, postcards and various souvenirs.
And that's not all. At the back, there is another small building.
It is a building called "Heuan Heua Fai".
"Huern Huern Fai" is a building that exhibits multimedia exhibitions showcasing everything about the fire boat of Nakhon Phanom province. It displays various stories through photographs, light, color, and sound. It exhibits the history and construction of fire boats in Nakhon Phanom province from the past to the present. There are many rare old photos. I learned a lot about the "Fire Boat Floating Tradition".
And then I cycled to the end of this route, which is "St. Anne's Church - Nong Saeng", a Christian church built in 1926. The church's distinctive feature is its twin spires, which are gracefully beautiful. This church is the center of the local Christian community.
During the Vietnam War, St. Anne's Church was damaged by bombs, but it has been restored and remains beautiful to this day.
The atmosphere inside is very quiet.
Nearby is an old building that was once used as a place of worship for Catholic priests, founded by Father Edouard Nampala (later established as the Father Edouard Nampala Foundation).
This building features colonial architecture, constructed with brick and mortar. The exterior boasts a beautiful yellow color and was built around 1952. Notably, some of the construction materials were imported from Vietnam.
After completing the #CyclingAlongTheMekong ride, covering almost 10 kilometers in 3-4 hours, we took a break by the Mekong River. It was the perfect time, as the sun was setting and the wind was calm. The view of the natural landscape along the Mekong River in the evening was amazing. It was so relaxing, and soon it would be time for our next activity, which was "cruising on the Mekong River."
I'm sitting here waiting for the boat at the pier opposite the "Indochina Market" (near the clock tower). There is only one boat trip, at 5:00 PM. The price is 50 baht per person, or you can charter a boat outside of these hours. For groups, the charter price is 1,000 baht (you can book or inquire by calling the number in the picture). Or, you can buy tickets on the boat, but there is a risk that it will be full. Food and drinks are available on the boat.
Take a boat trip to enjoy the view of both sides of the Mekong River, Thailand-Laos with this boat for only 50 baht..There is only one round at 5:00 PM If you miss it, you'll miss it..hehe!
**At 5:00 p.m.**, the boat set sail along the Mekong River. We sailed along the Thai side of the river, Nakhon Phanom first. On the boat, there was a guide who provided commentary, information, and introductions to the history of the various places we passed. We saw the way of life of the people living along the banks of the Mekong River. The atmosphere was relaxed. **.. It was fun and enjoyable!**
On board, there is food and drinks available at reasonable prices. You can enjoy your meal and drinks while taking in the evening atmosphere. It's very relaxing! Hehe!
The boat sailed along the coast of "Nakhon Phanom" first.
Enjoying the view of Nakhon Phanom through various locations and restaurants along the Mekong River, with people waving hello from time to time.
Passing by the church of Saint Anne Nong Saeng that I cycled to see earlier, this time I'm taking a look by boat instead..^^
Most tourists like to sit on the second floor (rooftop) of the boat. It may be a comfortable atmosphere with a wider view, receiving cool wind above. Therefore, the second floor looks crowded.
Let's go up and see the atmosphere up there. There are a lot of people. There are no tables left. But you can come up and take pictures and take in the atmosphere.
Standing at the stern of the boat, enjoying the breeze, is quite relaxing. Watching the sunset is a beautiful sight.
Please come down and sit below as usual.
I feel like the bottom is the most comfortable to sit on. Hehe!
Everyone is upstairs, so there aren't many people downstairs. Sit comfortably and enjoy a chilled beer.. ^^
The boat will take approximately 1 to 1.30 hours to complete the entire cruise. After cruising along the Thai coast, we will cross over to see the way of life of our Lao brothers and sisters.
The River of Life.. The way of life on both sides of the Mekong River
I got to see the way of life of the people living along the Mekong River, a simple and slow-paced life. I learned a lot and enjoyed the evening atmosphere like this very much. It was worth the 50 baht! If you come to Nakhon Phanom, don't miss it! It's fun!
After getting off the boat, we stopped by to pay respects to the Phra That at Sunthonvichit Road along the Mekong River. This is the "Wat Maha That" located on the banks of the Mekong River, which was built during the construction of Nakhon Phanom city.
The most important thing inside the temple is the "Phra That Nakhon". The shape of the Phra That is a square. It is considered the Phra That for Saturday (It is the Phra That for the day of birth. You don't have to go far from the city center.) Inside the Phra That, there are relics of the Lord Buddha. It is considered a place of worship for the people of Nakhon Phanom.
Nearby, there is also an ancient ordination hall with beautiful local architecture.

As night falls, it's time to hit the town. We're here at the "Nakhon Phanom Walking Street" (4), located right by the "Clock Tower" ..(1) on Sunthonvichit Road. (In short, the Clock Tower area seems to be the center of all the attractions, hehe) The walking street is only open on Fridays and Saturdays, from the late afternoon until around 9 pm.
It's time to shop, eat, and relax, everyone...hehe!
The road will be closed to allow shops to set up stalls selling a variety of goods, including clothing, accessories, household items, and delicious local food for you to try.
The number of people will gradually increase. The atmosphere in the evening near the Mekong River like this is very relaxing.
Let's take a look at the food at the "Nakhon Phanom Walking Street". Starting with "Khao Chi", there are many flavors to choose from according to your preference.
Grilled meat.. the kind that smells so good it carries far, so much so that I had to stop buying it. This one is really the best.. Dip it in sauce and eat it with sticky rice, it's the best!^^
Let's take a look at the desserts... They're frying so fast, I can barely keep up with the queue.
It tastes delicious. I like it ^^
Kids will love these colorful jellies in tubes, only 1 baht each.
After finding some snacks at the walking street, we decided to look for something more substantial to eat. Haha, we came to "Sabai Dee @ Nakhon Phanom Restaurant" ..(8), which is also located on the walking street.
"Sabai Dee Restaurant @ Nakhon Phanom" is a restaurant with a wide variety of dishes. It offers new and exciting menus to try all the time, depending on the ingredients available in each season. There are local dishes, Thai food, Western food, and Lao food to choose from. But the highlight is definitely the Mekong River fish menu, which is a must-try! The restaurant has both air-conditioned rooms and a natural air-conditioned area. We chose the latter and sat outside to enjoy the atmosphere of people walking by.
It's time for a formal dinner.
A variety of fish menus...bring it on!
"Shrimp with Wasabi" - It's really good, like really spicy!!
And this is the star of the show.. Everyone who comes here must order this to try. The menu "Pla Joop" is served as a set... as a set...
Freshly sliced Mekong River fish
Dip it in the boiling soup for just 4-5 seconds, then dip it in the sauce before putting it in your mouth. The meat is tender and chewy, with a sweet taste. .. It's delicious, fresh fish like this!
Now you can enjoy delicious food. .. Come to Nakhon Phanom and want to try Mekong River fish, I recommend this restaurant Sabai Dee @ Nakhon Phanom located on the walking street. It's not hard to find. ..
After being full from the Sabai Dee @ Nakhon Phanom restaurant, I crossed to the other side, which is also a restaurant (9). But the highlight of this restaurant is that it has imported beers from abroad for you to try.
It's a restaurant right on the banks of the Mekong River. The atmosphere is amazing, especially at night when the cool breeze blows. You can even see the lights from Laos.
Sitting and chatting while sipping beer by the Mekong River.
Let's try one bottle each first.
A pleasant atmosphere for a relaxing conversation.
It really fits the atmosphere, lol!
I'm starting to order more and more, huh!
I feel like I'm starting to get really smooth.. I guess tonight will be a long one 55+ ^^
Cock-a-doodle-doo... (rooster crowing)
Entering a new day
[DAY 2] - Morning by the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom
Come and watch the sunrise at the Mekong River.
This sandy beach is located opposite Kham Muon District, Laos. In the morning like this, when the sun is about to rise from the horizon, it is a very beautiful sight. You must have the opportunity to watch the sunrise in the morning because the first light of the day will shine on the sand and reflect back to the viewer, making it feel as if the sand is golden. It is called "Hat Sai Thong Si Khot Bura".
The sun began to touch the horizon. The atmosphere by the Mekong River in the morning was very good. The villagers went out to fish early in the morning. I got to see the way of life amidst the beautiful nature. It was worth it to wake up early.... Hehe!
And then.. Soon the sun rose from the horizon, starting a new day that was so bright "At the golden sand beach of Sri Kotr Boor"
The morning air is quite cool .. I also saw the fog on the mountain range on the Lao side. The air is very fresh, ^^
A little later in the morning, we rented bicycles and rode to our next destination: "Uncle Ho Chi Minh's House".
Map of Nakhon Phanom City
1 = Nakhon Phanom City
2 = Uncle Ho Chi Minh's house
3 = Directions to the airport
It's a bit outside the city. Cycle along the route to Nakhon Phanom Airport. From the city center, it's about 6-7 kilometers. There will be a left turn into the alley for about 1 kilometer. Then you will arrive at "Uncle Ho Chi Minh's House".
Inside the house, there are various trees that Uncle Ho Chi Minh planted, including coconut trees, areca nuts, betel leaves, bananas, and tea, which make the house very cool and shady.
It is a small wooden house, living simply.
Walking into the house, there is an exhibition of Uncle Ho Chi Minh's work history and travels to various places. This is .. Uncle Ho Chi Minh's desk and study.
The history of this house is as follows... "Former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Uncle Ho Chi Minh, once sought refuge under the auspices of His Majesty the King of Thailand to reclaim Vietnam's independence between 1924-1931." Uncle Ho Chi Minh once lived in this house for a period of time. Inside the house, there are many wooden tools that are replicas of the past, in order to preserve the original atmosphere, just like when Uncle Ho Chi Minh lived in this house.
The house is full of photos of Uncle Ho Chi Minh.
The surroundings of the house are shady and peaceful.
After visiting Uncle Ho Chi Minh's house and seeing everything, I cycled back to the city!
How do I get from Nakhon Phanom to Laos?
Nakhon Phanom Province is directly opposite Tha Khaek City, Khammouan Province (ຄໍາມ່ວນ), which is one of the provinces of Laos. Traveling across the Mekong River is quite convenient, as there are boats crossing the river all day long. If you are visiting Nakhon Phanom and feel like crossing over to visit the Lao side, just follow these steps!
Starting from .. the immigration checkpoint. It's right next to the "clock tower" (The clock tower again.. it's really the center of everything 55)
Map of Nakhon Phanom - Tha Khaek
1 = Clock tower
2 = Immigration Checkpoint
3 = Muang Thakhaek, Khammouane Province
At the immigration checkpoint, you can use your passport to cross the border free of charge. You can also apply for a border pass. (You only need your ID card, but there is a service fee of around 35 baht.)
Then, I used my passport to buy a ferry ticket to cross over. It cost 60 baht per trip. They also gave me a departure form, which I filled out with my personal information.
All boat schedules.. Last trip 18.00 hrs.
After passing through Thai immigration, you will need to go down the stairs to board the boat. The stairs are quite high and steep, and there is a lot of boat traffic going up and down all the time.
Sitting at the pier below, there are many brothers and sisters, both Thai and Lao, waiting to cross the river together.
Then the boat came and we boarded it. .. On the boat, there were only plastic chairs (probably for the convenience of transporting goods). If you board the boat late, you will have to stand, but it's only for 15-20 minutes. Stand and enjoy the view for a while... and you'll reach the shores of Laos.
Soon the boat crossed the river and arrived at the Lao side at Tha Khaek, Khammouane Province. Then we got off the boat and walked up the shore. But the stairs on the Lao side were steeper than the Thai side, so it took a while to get to the top 55+. Then we got our passports stamped to enter Laos. The fee is 40 baht (you can pay in Thai baht).
After exiting the Lao checkpoint, turn right and you will see a tuk-tuk stand with plenty of tuk-tuks parked there. I recommend that if you want to visit the tourist attractions in "Kham Mouan", you should have at least half a day. Then hire a tuk-tuk to visit various places such as caves, stone walls, markets, temples, etc. This is because each tourist attraction is quite far apart and it is necessary to hire a car or rent a car to get around. But... if you just want to cross over for a visit and experience the atmosphere like me, that's fine too. Come over for a short visit, have some fun, walk around the checkpoint for 1-2 hours and then go back. It's a nice change of pace, hehe!
Strolling along the Mekong River Road, from where I used to look at the Lao side from the Thai side, now... I'd like to look at the Thai side from the Lao side.
There are many restaurants along the Mekong River. The atmosphere feels much more peaceful than the Thai side. (I thought the Thai side was quiet, but this side is even quieter! 55)
What are the three girls buying?
After walking 200 meters from the checkpoint, I came across a temple (I couldn't read the name of the temple...hehe). Let's go in and admire the beauty of the Lao temple.
I saw many small shops along the Mekong River. I decided to find a place to sit and have a look. It seemed like there weren't many people around. I sat down at a table with small chairs at a shop on the side of the road.
When you come to Laos, you have to order "Lao beer"!
Whenever I have the chance to visit Laos, I always have to buy and eat "Khai Khao" (I didn't dare to eat it before, but I've gradually become more adventurous and now I'm used to it.. haha)
Order 2 eggs, please. 5000 kip (20 baht)
The best part is that it goes well with Lao beer, hehe!
A young girl secretly eats sticky rice with fried fish. She looks very delicious!
The Lao side of the Mekong River is much quieter than the Thai side. If you have the chance, you should try crossing over for a visit sometime.
It's time to travel back to the Thai side. I walked back to the Lao checkpoint (the checkpoint also has a lunch break). I did the exit procedure and paid another 40 baht fee (paid again...). Then I bought a boat ticket back for the same price as the way there, 60 baht.
And then walk down to the pier. The way down is a bit easier, but it's still quite steep. The pier on the Lao side looks smaller than the one on the Thai side.
Come down and wait at the pier.. Here, there is still a lot of Thai-Lao goods transportation going on all the time.
It wasn't long before I was on a boat back to the Thai side.
Back to "Nakhon Phanom" the sign is clearly visible!
Summary If you want to cross to the Lao side (with a passport), you need to have at least 200 baht..!! (Round-trip boat fare 120 baht, Lao checkpoint fee in and out 80 baht) Back to "Nakhon Phanom" just in time to travel back to Bangkok. Then let's move on to the food and souvenirs mode..

3 = Wat Maha That
4 = Si Thep Crispy Rice Crackers
5 = Ruentong Shop (Souvenirs)
Come to Sri Thep Crispy Pancake Shop (4). It's a famous crispy pancake shop in Nakhon Phanom with affordable prices. The shop is located on Sri Thep Road, opposite Sri Thep Hotel. It's easy to spot.
Various types of stuffed pancake menu
Let's do it live and fresh.
Crispy rice crackers with soft, thin dough + delicious filling
This picture is of someone making a "pak mor" with an egg.
It will be done soon. Ready to serve..Looks delicious, doesn't it? Squeeze some lemon into the dipping sauce.. It's really delicious!!
"Crispy Rice Crackers" - Crispy rice crackers that are just as delicious.
Next, let me introduce another restaurant, "Tum Thad Kru Rin" (2), which is located right on the banks of the Mekong River. It is owned by the same people as Pun Suk Rim Khong Resort, which I mentioned earlier. If you stay at Pun Suk Rim Khong, you can enjoy delicious papaya salad nearby. Hehe!
Spicy food menu..ครับ
I ordered a tray of papaya salad with a lot of options. It's worth the price ^^
Plus, the atmosphere is great and the decoration is inviting. It's a restaurant, a som tam restaurant, and a coffee shop all in one.
It's great to sit in a good corner. It's great to sit and eat a delicious papaya salad with a beautiful view of the Mekong River.
And another restaurant I would like to recommend is "Vietnamese Kitchen @ Nakhon Phanom". If you have time, try it out.
Finally... Before heading back, I had to stop by the "Coin Thong" (5) souvenir shop. It's not far from "Sri Thep Crispy Rice Crackers" (4), just a short walk away. (There's another shop nearby, "Phorn Thep" breakfast. If you like fried eggs, boiled eggs, or breakfast, come and try it.) The "Coin Thong" shop is a souvenir shop where you can buy gifts. Mostly, they sell processed foods like fermented pork sausage and fermented pork. Great for souvenirs!...
Then .. we arrived at "Nakhon Phanom Airport" to prepare for our return trip. For this trip to Nakhon Phanom, I was impressed by many things. I wouldn't get tired of coming here many times. I like the slow, unhurried pace of life in the relaxed atmosphere. So I would like to recommend to my friends who have never been here to come and visit.(Nakhon Phanom has a lot of cheap promotions..hehe.. but lately it seems like they haven't been coming out much..55) Before this.. I didn't know and never thought of visiting Nakhon Phanom. But when I got to experience it and get to know it, my mind changed completely. It turned out to be the province I like the most..55+ I hope that when my friends come to visit, they will feel enchanted+in love with it like me. Too!
Finally.. I would like to thank all my friends who came to see and read this review. If there is any information or anything wrong, I apologize here. I hope to see you again. Bye bye..bye bye.. Nakhon Phanom Hello! (-/\-)
