Doi Inthanon: Cold Wind in the Rain

A short one-day trip to Doi Inthanon in the rainy season

On the highest point of Siam, the higher you go, the colder it gets, but during the rainy season, it's cold and wet.
With the fairytale path hidden away, the Ang Ka Nature Study Trail, Doi Inthanon National Park

I've captured the atmosphere for you, mostly through pictures.

"Who goes to Chiang Mai now? Who would climb a mountain during the rainy season?"

Well, I wanted to get wet in the highlands. The higher the altitude, the colder it gets, so it's bound to be wetter.
No one has ever climbed this mountain during this time, so let's do it.

We started our journey early in the morning, I can't remember the exact time (oops).
After passing the toll booth, the road became steeper and steeper. We rolled down the car windows and took a deep breath of the fog.
It was very Silent Hill-like, with visibility no more than 10 meters.
We slowly crawled up the mountain, but there were hardly any cars coming the other way. I mean, who would come here at this time?

He slowly crawled up to the parking lot at the entrance to the Kew Mae Pan Nature Study Trail, hoping to walk the Kew.

The first glimpse of the parking lot, you might as well not see it, the car is invisible in the fog.

The view around is nowhere to be seen, it's all gone, huhuhuhu. I'm going to walk to the cliff, the cliff is closed (I didn't do any research beforehand) 5555

Let's create a new profile picture here with a high Silent Hill fog.

Turn left, turn right, walk straight to the place they call the helicopter landing pad. Wowwwwwwwwwwwww

The wind blows every time, my mouth trembles.

Soaked to the bone with the cold

When the wind blows, it's like a swarm of bees flying in, but this time it's a swarm of white mist floating in.

This angle makes me forget all about the mountain pass. It feels like I'm in a novel.

So good

Continuous fog

Warp quickly to the highest point of Siam

The atmosphere on the street and in the parking lot is no different.

Everyone comes to take pictures at the highest point sign, right? We'll skip it for now, haha.

We walked up the path until we reached the ancient forest. We paid our respects at the stupa of Chao Inthawichaiyanon for a while.

The wind is blowing so hard this time, with wind, fog and rain. The big trees are swaying.

It feels as cold as winter, a wet kind of cold.

Looking up and down, I'm birdwatching.

This atmosphere is amazing, man.

We walked until we reached the Doi Inthanon National Park Summit Protection Unit.

There was a sign saying the lowest temperature this morning was 11 degrees Celsius. Oh wow, I was indifferent at first.

But when I saw the temperature reading, my hands started shaking right away. 555

We sat down to rest and have some food at a restaurant near the tourist service point for a while.
My friend got up to go birdwatching, but I wanted to watch but couldn't see any birds.
I walked out to get some fresh air on the road and saw a sign for the 'Ang Ka Nature Study Trail'.
I had nowhere else to go, so I decided to walk in there.

The total walking distance is approximately 300-400 meters, which is a comfortable distance.

The wooden walkway is elevated from the ground and completely covered in green moss.

It seems to be the same type of forest as the area around the stupa.

He said this tree is called "Khao Tok Rishi".

There are some open areas where you can enjoy a 360-degree view (of the fog).

It has a slight Lord of the Rings vibe.

Just like when the hobbits had to escape the pursuit of the black horse goblins, into the ancient forest.

The more I walk, the more I feel like I'm walking in a fairy tale. The atmosphere is eerily cool.

After walking for about 40 minutes, we looped back to the exit. It's important to stay on the path in Ang Ka, as it can get confusing and easy to get lost, especially with fewer people around.

The trip can be completed in half a morning.

We chose to rent a car and drive ourselves up, taking our time. If you're not familiar with the route or haven't driven much, it's not recommended.

The atmosphere is different from the usual tourist season, but Chiang Mai isn't just about the winter.

You should definitely give it a try. It's amazing!

If you're interested after reading this, there's still time to prepare. This trip was taken last year on August 1, 2015. Go for it!
