Mae Hong Son was once recorded as one of the happiest provinces in Thailand. The main highlight of this city in the mist is its tranquility, nature, and local culture, which has not been embellished as much as other tourist cities.
For me, Mae Hong Son has brought me happiness every day since I started walking in every corner of this province in the northwest of Thailand.
I embarked on a journey, capturing moments of joy on a circular route that began in Chiang Mai. Along this path, we, as travelers, come to realize that happiness is not solely found at the destination, but rather in every kilometer along the way.
Throughout the journey, I started taking pictures at popular places along the way I drove, such as the popular coffee shop Coffee in love, to stop both the car and the people.
Despite my rush to reach Mae Hong Son city by this afternoon, I couldn't resist stopping to admire the views at various rest stops along the way, which felt like the road was truly floating in the sky. The picture shows the rest stop and viewpoint at Kiew Lom, Pang Ma Pha.
And we finally arrived at our destination.
Upon arriving in this mountainous city, the first thing we wanted to do was to pay respects at Doi Kong Mu Temple, the city's sacred pagoda, for good luck on our journey.
The weather was still quite cool and comfortable during my visit, which was at the end of winter. And there was always beautiful light in the evenings, giving us the perfect opportunity to capture the atmosphere.
The evening atmosphere and light of the coffee shop named Before Sunset, located near the parking lot behind Doi Kong Mu Temple, made me have to focus on waiting to capture the evening atmosphere, no matter how many customers there were.
My partner and I sat in quiet contemplation, focusing on the stillness and silence until the sun had set behind the mountains. We then returned to our accommodation in the town below.
In the city of Mae Hong Son, on the mountaintop, we can see the majestic Phra That Doi Kong Mu, standing tall and proud in the heart of the city. But below, in the center of this city, there is also an ancient and beautiful temple, Wat Chong Kham, located by the Nong Chong Kham Lake. The temple is adorned with intricate decorations, showcasing its beauty and serving as a symbol of this city.
Not far from the city, there is Rak Thai Village, a popular tourist destination with a reservoir located on a mountain range about a thousand meters above sea level. It is as beautiful as heaven, befitting its name as a city in the mist. Due to the steam that hits the cold air above the reservoir, there is a mist rising every morning in the winter season.
If you open your eyes and look around this reservoir, without knowing the name of the place, it would be hard to tell that this is Thailand, a country that is as beautiful as any other in the world.
It's a pity that I didn't have enough time to capture the beauty of the various locations on this high mountain range.
However, another thing I recommend doing is cycling around the city of Mae Hong Son.
Due to the hilly terrain of Mae Hong Son, it may be tiring to walk around. But believe me, the enjoyment of the scenery and the local way of life in this city will definitely make us forget the fatigue.
We will meet again soon in a peaceful and tranquil city.
On the skyway to Mae Hong Son...
