Let's take you on a trip to "Chiang Khan"!
The journey begins at Don Mueang Airport, heading towards the charming Loei Airport. AirAsia provides convenient airport shuttle services between Loei Airport and Chiang Khan for 250 Baht per trip, with the same price for both ways. It's a comfortable option, allowing you to hop off the plane and directly reach Chiang Khan!
It only takes a little over an hour to get to Chiang Khan. The first thing I did was sit down and soak up the atmosphere by the Mekong River. Even though it's a bit hot and sunny right now, I'm sure it will be better soon.
The atmosphere along the Mekong River in Chiang Khan is especially pleasant in the evenings. Tourists often rent bicycles to ride along the riverside path, taking in the scenery and observing the way of life on both sides of the Mekong River.
And here on the banks of the Mekong, you can also witness a stunning sunset.
At night, "Chiang Khan" comes alive again with shops and restaurants setting up stalls to sell goods and souvenirs for visitors to take home as mementos.
Delicious food is also available at Chiang Khan Walking Street, such as the tempting "Khao Jee", a warm and crispy rice snack.
Or it could be grilled river prawns on skewers, sprinkled with a little salt. It has the same kind of vibe.
Another must-try dish is the "egg in a pan", which you can find at many restaurants. Just choose a place to sit and enjoy. Not only is it available at night, but it's also sold in the morning. You can have it all day and night, so let's go!
The appearance of the "fried egg" is quite delicious, but I feel that it is more suitable for breakfast. Eating it with coffee in the morning would be a good match.
A new morning with cool and comfortable weather... The next program is to go up to "Phu Tok" and visit "Kaeng Kut Ku". We contacted a skylab tricycle. He charged 100 baht per person for a round trip from our accommodation. He picked us up early in the morning, around 5:30 am. We will travel up to Phu Tok, which takes about half an hour. (If you don't go up to Phu Tok in the early morning, you can wait to offer food to the monks. But you have to choose one of them.)
Upon arriving at Phu Thok... you need to change to another vehicle to go up, which is a pickup truck. There is an additional fee of 25 baht per person. There are trucks going up and down all the time, and you can take any one back down. You don't have to wait for it to be full, and it can leave at any time. The truck will take you up the winding mountain road, and after a while, you will reach the top of Phu Thok. There you will be greeted by a relaxed atmosphere and stunning views.
It's a pity that the weather today didn't allow for a sea of fog, so we could only enjoy the fresh air and watch the sun slowly rise from the horizon.
After enjoying the morning atmosphere, we took the same pickup truck back down from Phu Tok. The truck dropped us off at the same spot where we had gotten on, and then...we continued on to Kaeng Khut Khu by skylab car, which was waiting for us. "Kaeng Khut Khu" is a large rock rapids that cuts across the middle of the Mekong River. The water flows through a narrow and fast-moving channel. The best time to visit Kaeng Khut Khu is between February and May, when the water level is low and the islands and rapids are clearly visible.
Here you will see the way of life of the villagers along the Mekong River. Spend some time here, take a walk and enjoy the atmosphere before taking the same skylab car back to Chiang Khan town.
"Chiang Khan" may be more bustling now than before, and it seems to be much more developed, but it is still a city worth relaxing by the Mekong River when you have the chance.
"Chiang Khan" has much more to offer than what has been mentioned. It all depends on what each individual experiences and encounters. However, I believe that what everyone feels the same is a sense of peace and contentment when they come to relax by the Mekong River here...
"Chiang Khan"... That's about it!
