The plan was to take a free train from Bangkok to Nam Tok Station and then somehow get to Hin Tok River Camp. We wanted to take the free train for the sake of being cool and hipster. Two or three days before the trip, we checked the train schedule and realized that the train departed at 7 am. We wondered how we would make it on time, as one of us lived near Victory Monument and the other lived in Ratchada Soi 3. We decided to wake up early and take the free train anyway. We agreed to meet at Victory Monument at 6 am.
Departure time 6:30 AM.
"She hasn't slept yet."
"Meet me at 8 am."
"Will you make it in time?"
"Not in time" or "Too late"
"Why?"
"I just woke up."
We finally got a ride on a lovely van to catch the free train to Kanchanaburi. Let's go, brothers and sisters!
Another close call. As soon as I arrived in Kanchanaburi, I bought a ticket. The train was arriving at the platform in 10 minutes. I didn't waste any time. I rushed to the bathroom and then immediately went to wait for the train on the platform.
The two siblings were full on the train, eating everything in sight, from boiled quail eggs to dry rice noodles. It was quite charming. The journey from Kanchanaburi to Nam Tok Station took almost 2 hours. We passed by a railway track along the mountain, and I didn't realize it until the foreigner sitting next to me got excited. Then I knew I should get up and take a picture.
Upon arriving at the waterfall station, we immediately found a shared taxi to take us to the resort. Our accommodation was not far away, located right next to the Khao Khad gap.
Drink water to stay hydrated.
After checking in, we were about to go to our room when we saw the sheep grazing. We went over to say hello, and I mean really hello, I almost ran into it.
After packing our belongings and turning on the air conditioning, we took a nap. We then remembered a picture we had seen online of Hin Tok River Camp, a hot spring with a view of the River Kwai and mist. We were eager to see it in person.
This natural hot spring boasts two pools. During the winter or early mornings after rainfall, visitors may encounter a picturesque mist, creating an idyllic atmosphere.
This location also serves as a port. Sunbathing by the River Kwai is a unique experience, and you might even get a tan that's deeper than what you'd get at the beach.
After soaking in the water until our bodies were soft, we went back to our room ready to eat dinner. We were really hungry because in the afternoon, when we were about to go eat at the restaurant, they were cleaning the kitchen. So we borrowed bicycles from the resort and rode to a nearby restaurant to keep ourselves alive.
The atmosphere here in front of the tent is perfect for a barbecue with a large group of friends.
The next morning, after breakfast, in addition to the popular tourist destination Khao Khad, there is also a temple near the resort. We can ride a bicycle in the morning to offer food to the monks. However, we must inform the front desk on the day of check-in that we will be offering food to the monks. The resort will prepare food for us.
This temple is located on the opposite side of the Hin Tok River Kwai. You have to cross the bridge over the Mae Nam Khwae Noi River. I must say that this spot is very beautiful and perfect for taking pictures.
The bridge is still in use by the villagers. However, during the morning hours, they do not allow bicycles to cross to the temple for fear of colliding with children on their way to school.
Before returning to Bangkok, we must stop by Khao Khaad. This is a mandatory flight. I really want to come here. I really want to go down and take pictures with my friends.
The museum is very well done, with exhibits of personal belongings of prisoners of war and equipment used in the construction of the railway. Entering the museum, one feels a deep sense of sadness and empathy for the prisoners of war.
After exploring the museum (which isn't very big, it only takes a short walk to see everything), we decided to walk down to the Khao Khaad gap where the railway was actually built back then. However, we didn't even make it halfway down before we decided to turn back.
"Let's go back. It's tiring to walk down. I wonder if we can make it up." - Not stated by the Bureau of the Royal Household.
The slope is very steep, and I still need to walk another 2-3 kilometers. I can't go back now, even walking back up here makes me gasp for air. Let me go get in shape first, and I'll come back again later.
This time, I'm not disappointed at all to stay at Hin Tok River Camp. Not only do I get to sleep in a resort with a new atmosphere, but there are also many places to visit nearby. I'll be back to visit again.
Especially the goat, I'll go find a way to make friends with you first.
