What is black tofu like? Is it delicious? Where is it sold? In Photharam? Where is Photharam? In Ratchaburi? Can I take a train there?
Let's eat!
This time, I decided to visit the old market in Photharam. I didn't expect to find much academic information there, but I was hoping to find some of the famous dessert shops that people talk about in the area. If I made any mistakes or have any missing information, please feel free to share your local knowledge. I may not have been able to visit every place.
Embarking on a free train ride from Hua Lamphong early in the morning,
Waiting for them to wash the train.
The train will arrive at this station shortly. Please prepare to disembark as the next stop is Photharam. The train will only stop briefly.
We have arrived. It only took a short while to get here while enjoying the birds and trees along the way.
I haven't had breakfast yet. I'm hungry now that I've arrived. I'll have something quick to eat before I run out of energy to walk. The noodle shop at the train station is still selling for 25 baht, which is great. ^^
Delicious.
Full, let's go to the temple first because the temple is right next to the train station.
Here we go again, walking through the bone storage zone. The temple is eerily quiet, with no one else around.
But it's beautiful.
While I was casually taking photos of the old market, I suddenly heard a voice from an unknown aunt's house, "Why are you taking photos? They're going to demolish it all!!"
I'm not hearing things, but I don't know what the truth is. I want this place to stay the same. Are they really going to demolish it? Or are they just kidding? Old things are hard to come by these days, and tourists are craving ancient attractions.
Most houses are still wooden houses. Old-style houses are hard to find.
In reality, traditional wooden houses, with their intricate wood panels, roofs, and balconies, are becoming increasingly rare. However, with careful renovation, they can be transformed into charming restaurants, cafes, or homestays, as demonstrated by numerous successful establishments. One such example is a renowned restaurant in Photharam, located near the train station. By venturing slightly to the right after exiting the station, you will encounter this hidden gem.
Look at the breasts!!
Nowadays, many cafes are decorated with vintage items, creating a stylish and unique atmosphere.
This restaurant has ample seating, both indoors and in the garden. The cool air and the sound of the waterfall create a relaxing atmosphere.
Chocolate lava ice cream and Thai iced tea, totaling 139 baht. Eating again!
After eating, we went for a walk to digest and came across an old cinema.
Ticket booth
The term "wig" has been in use for a long time.
How old is this poster?
He tried to climb up, but it was closed. He was also startled by the mannequins, and it turned into a storage room for the clothing store.
Wherever you walk, there are only wooden houses.

The hot weather and long walk have left me feeling tired and hungry. I've only had snacks so far, so I'm looking for a place to sit down and enjoy some air conditioning.
Found another De Pang branch in Photharam.
The air conditioning is cool, there's free wifi, and there are places to charge your phone. It's very comfortable. I had a hot mocha and some bread, which came to 85 baht. The shop is actually very easy to find. Just exit the train station and walk 300 meters to the left.
As we visited on a weekday during the day, the market was relatively quiet. The young adults were at work, leaving mostly local residents. We only saw children after school, when the evening market began to open.
And among the pets guarding the houses, there are many Chinese people in this area, so they don't raise many large animals.

As the sun sets and the wind dies down, we walk towards the Mae Klong River. In a few days, the Loy Krathong festival will be held here. The wide, clean river will be a beautiful sight to behold.
I was surprised to see an elderly man by the river. I thought he was fishing, but as I got closer, I realized he was washing mung beans! I asked if I could take a picture, and he kindly said, "Of course."
This park is probably more crowded in the evenings, but it's quite spacious.

There are many beautiful shrines here.
As dusk approached, we hurried to the renowned Mae Lek Black Tofu shop to purchase some for our journey back to Bangkok. The shop is conveniently located; upon exiting the train station, turn left at the intersection and continue walking until you reach it. It was the first establishment we encountered, but we opted to explore other options before returning.
He is used to being photographed professionally because the show has been filming there so often.
He said we could go into the kitchen and take pictures of how they boil the eggs. He explained that they boil them for three days before they can be eaten.
I bought two pieces for 20 baht each to try. At first, I thought it was just ordinary braised tofu, but I ate it after I had eaten everything else, so I wasn't hungry and was full. I kept one piece and brought it back to Bangkok. I kept it for a night and ate it the next morning. It was so delicious, like eating steamed eggs. It was soft, tender, and delicious. I ate it as a snack.
As a journalist translator, I can translate the sentence from Thai to English:
"We walked around until almost 4 pm. We had to pick up our free train tickets back to Bangkok at 4 pm. We walked back to the train station again."
The noodle shop was already closed this morning.
When I checked the train schedule, I was disappointed to learn that the southbound train was delayed. I had to return at 6 pm. I had to accept the situation and understand that Thai trains are often delayed. However, I was not in a hurry, so I decided to walk around the evening market instead.
Arriving in the city of beautiful people, where are the beautiful people?! But in a moment, walking around, I found them.
Beautiful woman from Photharam
Yellow shirt for N้องแว, blue shirt for N้องวิว.
I wandered around the area for a while, not venturing far. After some time, I sat down at the train station to wait for my train, chatting with an elderly woman who was also waiting. She was traveling alone as well and told me she had been to Prachuap Khiri Khan for a reunion with friends she hadn't seen in decades. She was now on her way to Ratchaburi.
Waited until dark
Even if you don't get to visit beautiful places with great atmospheres, a day trip to various communities with different lifestyles can offer valuable insights into their way of life. You can sample local cuisine, interact with residents who live at a slower pace, and gain a deeper understanding of their culture. Such experiences can be just as enriching as visiting popular tourist destinations.
