Nestled in the heart of southern Thailand, Nakhon Si Thammarat, affectionately known as "Mueang Nakhon," is a vibrant tapestry of culinary delights, maritime traditions, and diverse cultural influences. The city's rich history is evident in its harmonious coexistence of Thai, Muslim, and Chinese communities, each contributing to the region's unique identity.

This trip, we traveled by Thai Lion Air from October 28-31, 2016, for 4 days and 3 nights. I went with 2 close friends.

And then we arrived at our destination.

There are no buses to the city from the airport. We took a taxi for 350 baht. Let the taxi driver take us to the hotel in the city to drop off our luggage, and then we went out to explore.

- On the first day, we visited Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, also known as "Wat Phra That". This temple features a large, white Phra Borommathat Chedi, which stands prominently in the city center. It houses the relics of the Buddha and serves as a spiritual center for the people of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

After paying respects at the temple, we stopped for lunch at the chicken rice shop in front of the temple. They have delicious and affordable dim sum, with each dish costing only 15 baht.

Next, we visited Kopi, a famous and long-established coffee shop that has been around since 1957. It is located near the temple. (Are we here to visit or to eat? 55555) Kopi offers traditional coffee, a variety of Chinese dishes, and the must-try Bak Kut Teh (a herbal soup with meat and vegetables), served with dim sum (35 baht per skewer) and rice with pork leg (50 baht per plate).

After finishing our coffee, we took a motorbike taxi back to the hotel to go swimming. That's all for the first day, I'm tired. 555

- On the second day, we woke up at six in the morning to visit the Kiriwong village in Lansaka district. We took a while to get ready, so we left a little late, around noon. It was raining too. We took a shared taxi from the city to Kiriwong for 25 baht. Kiriwong is known as the rural village with the best air quality in Thailand. The morning air was filled with a lot of fog, which was amazing. I've never seen anything like it before.

In the afternoon, we stopped by a coffee shop. Before leaving, we bought some delicious Islamic fried chicken. The sauce was a bit strange, though, as it was made with black soy sauce. I have to say that the durian here is incredibly cheap, only 50 baht! Compared to back home, where it costs around 200-300 baht, it's a steal. I wanted to buy a basket to bring back, but unfortunately, I couldn't take it on the plane. Oh well!

The last songthaew here leaves at 3:30 PM. It closes very early. By 9 or 10 PM, everyone is already home and asleep. The city is quiet, unlike Bangkok, which is lively all night. Haha.

After visiting Khao Kiri Wong, we stopped for dinner in the city at a prominent restaurant called Chaw Reua, which serves authentic Southern Thai cuisine. The flavors were well-balanced, and I tried stir-fried petai for the first time, which was surprisingly delicious.

The meal consisted of stir-fried stinky beans with shrimp paste, stir-fried fiddlehead fern, and turmeric-boiled chicken. Two people could not finish it and had to take it back to the hotel. The price was reasonable, around 150 baht per dish.

The third day, it rained all day. But the rainy season is good because there is a lot of fog. We came to the wrong time, so we couldn't go to the sea. 555 Today, we will go to Pak Phanang district instead. We will walk and take pictures at the 100-year-old market. For the trip, we took a van from the bus station. The fare is 36 baht. The front of the van will say Nakhon-Pak Phanang. It takes about 40 minutes to get there. When we arrive in Pak Phanang, we take a ferry across the river to the market. The ferry costs one baht per round. The price is very cute. Hehe.

Pak Phanang is a charming vintage town with a simple, seafaring lifestyle. It served as a crucial port for transporting goods by Chinese and Singaporean junks.

In addition to fresh seafood, there are also bird's nest condos, which are a source of genuine bird's nests, generating income for local residents.
