Similan Islands are a top choice for many sea-loving travelers, and I was no exception. While I enjoy exploring both mountains and beaches, my preference leans towards the latter. However, the fear of getting tanned always held me back. Nevertheless, Similan remained a dream destination, and finally, after admiring countless stunning photos online, the opportunity to visit presented itself.
Please follow my page for more updates: https://www.facebook.com/wanderaroundthailand. This trip was unplanned, and I set off as soon as I had the time. All I prepared was a good sunscreen, haha. For my first trip to Similan, I chose Wow Andaman's services. I boarded the boat from Phang Nga Province. Upon arrival at the pier, I checked in and registered. I informed the staff that I was going to Similan Island. There were two boats departing that day, one to Similan and the other to Surin Island. My destination was Similan Island.
The boat will depart from the pier at approximately 9:00 AM. Before departure, a guide will provide instructions and explain the details of the trip, including the rules and regulations to be followed upon arrival at the island. Importantly, breakfast will be provided to energize passengers before the journey.
After a satisfying meal, as the departure time for the boat approached, it was time to choose the diving equipment.
As the time approached, an announcement from the staff stated, "The boat is about to depart." I immediately rushed to the boat. There were several boats, so it was important to remember which one I had boarded. As mentioned earlier, not all boats travel to Similan.
Upon boarding the boat, our enthusiastic guide continued to provide insightful explanations and helpful tips, ensuring a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout the journey. Laughter and excitement filled the air as we sailed towards our destination. For those who felt peckish during the voyage, the boat was well-stocked with provisions to keep hunger at bay. The trip to Similan Islands is a relatively long one, taking approximately two hours. For those prone to seasickness, it is advisable to bring along motion sickness medication or an inhaler. However, fret not if you forget, as the boat also has a supply of medication available.
After a long journey, I drifted off to sleep on the boat. When I woke up, we had arrived at our first destination: Miang Island.
Wow, just seeing the seawater makes me feel refreshed. The color of the seawater is so beautiful. Today, the sky is clear and the sun is shining, making it even more beautiful. I immediately boarded the boat and took photos with my camera. I didn't care about anything else. I understand why so many people dream of visiting this place. However, the first island we arrived at is not the highlight of Similan. The Similan Islands have a total of 9 islands, arranged from north to south. The most prominent island in Similan is Island 8, the island with the sailboat-shaped rock symbol that is familiar to everyone.
After spending a considerable amount of time strolling and taking pictures on Koh Mieng, we were captivated by its beauty and reluctant to leave. The fine white sand and crystal-clear water enticed us to stay and immerse ourselves in its tranquility.
Next, it was time to travel to Koh Paed, the island I had been waiting to visit. The image of the sailboat rock immediately popped into my head, and it would also be the place to stop for lunch (starting to get hungry). Because it was almost noon, the food I had eaten in the morning had been burned away by the sun, haha.
The journey from Koh Mieng to Koh Paed took less than five minutes. The image that had been in my head for so long was suddenly right in front of me. My heart was racing. I wanted to climb up and take a picture on that rock, but the guide told me that I had to walk up. The path was quite steep, and the sun was very hot. I also had to walk barefoot. Imagine how the rocks that had been exposed to the sun for a long time would feel. My feet might get blisters. But... since I had already come all this way, if I didn't climb up there, I would probably feel guilty for a long time. Haha.
While the image may suggest an easy walk, reaching these stairs was quite a leg-burning experience.
The first view we saw before reaching the Hin Ruea Boed Viewpoint.
Finally made it to the top (taking a breather). The view is 180 degrees, it's amazing! I'm exhausted, but I can't stand still because the rocks are hot.
Oops, I forgot I was hungry! After taking pictures and enjoying the view, we walked down to eat. The food at Wow Andaman is buffet-style, with a wide variety of options. However, we arrived late, so there wasn't much food left. It's actually recommended to eat before climbing up to the Sail Rock. However, to avoid the crowds, our guide Ball took us up to take pictures first and then came down to eat. Haha!
After a satisfying meal, we took a short break to digest before heading out to snorkel and photograph the beautiful fish and coral reefs. However, just as we were about to dive in, our GoPro camera battery died. We were so disappointed, as we had hoped to capture some amazing underwater footage. Oh well, at least we could still enjoy the beauty with our own eyes.
Fortunately, there was a guide who took pictures from a distance.
Finally, let's take a picture with the Wow Andaman wristband. I forgot to mention that everyone will receive a wristband upon registration. Keep it as a souvenir to remember your trip to Similan. Haha!
