"Bangkok also has a tree tunnel road?!"
A Hidden Gem: The Tree Tunnel Road in Bangkok
While many may doubt its existence, a hidden gem lies within the bustling metropolis of Bangkok: the Tree Tunnel Road. This enchanting passageway, shrouded in lush greenery, offers a tranquil escape from the city's vibrant chaos.
This perspective is not without merit, considering the scorching midday sun that offers little respite from its relentless glare. The lack of shade in the bustling city makes seeking refuge from the heat a daily struggle for its inhabitants.
In recent years, environmental issues have become a prominent topic of discussion in urban societies, particularly on social media platforms. Concerns regarding air pollution, the condition of waterways, and the scarcity of trees in major cities like Bangkok have frequently dominated public discourse.
This issue has sparked ongoing debate, questioning whether tree pruning by both public and private sectors adheres to professional standards and aesthetic considerations appropriate for the urban environment. Additionally, a group of social media users have formed a network to act as watchdogs for society, advocating for the protection and conservation of urban trees. Meanwhile, government agencies such as the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority have begun taking steps to ensure that tree care in urban areas is aligned with the evolving social landscape.
Wow! With everyone working together, a verdant and shady urban environment is sure to become a reality! But before that day arrives, Bangkok is not without beautiful, shaded streets. Today, we would like to take you on a tour of the real tree tunnel roads in Bangkok. How beautiful and magnificent they are, let's go see!
Queen's Road (Phra Nakhon District)
Location: Ratchaphruek Road, in front of the National Theatre and the Institute of Fine Arts Development (School of Dramatic Arts)
Length of the tree tunnel (approximately): 200 meters
Shade level: 9.5/10
Shady all year round, beautifully trimmed branches, even though there are a number of trees that have been cut down to stumps. However, some of the tree stumps have continued to grow new branches. Amazing! \^O^/
Sun Road (Phra Nakhon District)
Location: Phra Athit Road, next to the Institute of Arts and Culture (School of Dance), entrance to the Office of the Council of State (Building 1), and Thammasat University.
Approximate length of the tree tunnel: 50 meters
Shade rating: 8.5/10
Shady all year round, beautifully trimmed branches. However, the sidewalk next to the wall of the Institute of Arts and Culture (School of Dance) is full of items left by junk collectors, which slightly detracts from the pleasant atmosphere. Overall, it is still beautiful.
Phra Chan Road (Phra Nakhon District)
Location: Phra Chan Road, next to Thammasat University.
Tunnel length (approx.): 200 meters.
Shade rating: 8.5/10.
This tree tunnel is beautifully shaded, even though it is frequently pruned. However, it quickly regains its beauty. The trees here seem to grow quickly. Note: The trees were recently pruned when these photos were taken, so they appear a bit sparse.
Sukhumvit Soi 26 (Khlong Toei District)
Location: Sukhumvit Soi 26, throughout the entire alley.
Tunnel Length (approx.): 1,000 meters.
Shade Rating: Perfect Ten 10/10.
Shaded year-round with beautifully trimmed branches. Whether you enter from Sukhumvit Road or Rama IV Road, the atmosphere is equally pleasant.
Witthayu Road (Pathum Wan District)
Location: Witthayu Road, from the front of Sindhorn Building to the front of Plaza Athenee Hotel, Bangkok, A Royal Meridian.
Approximate length of the tree tunnel: 800 meters
Shade level: Perfect Ten 10/10
Despite the heavy traffic almost all day, the atmosphere is shady throughout the year. The branches are beautifully trimmed. Whether you come from Plernjit intersection or Lumphini Park, the atmosphere is equally beautiful.
Bangkok is a city with numerous large and small parks (such as Lumphini Park, pictured above). These beautiful parks provide shade and aesthetic pleasure to all of us. Imagine if this greenery extended to every street, combined with the many beautiful tourist attractions that Bangkok has to offer. The City of Angels would be even more enchanting and memorable for visitors.
We all desire a city with a healthy environment, lush trees providing shade, capturing dust, and filtering polluted air to improve our quality of life. This is a significant challenge that requires collective effort. Until then, we can confidently say...
"Bangkok also has a tree tunnel road."
