PASTRY DEPENDENCY

by SEALLY-GO-ROUND

Hello, Seally-go-round, the old seal, is back in Pattaya as usual.

After the previous review, we took a tour of the chic hotel on Pattaya Beach Road, Hotel Mera Mare.

Today, let's review the beautiful cafe in front of the hotel. The cool name is Pastry Addiction.

Two years ago, I compiled a list of 10 cafes in Pattaya worth checking out. You can see the list here:

>>> [CR]Review of 10 cafes with 10 different styles... Which cafes are worth checking out when visiting 'Pattaya'?

From my recent survey, all the cafes I reviewed are still open. (Nowadays, cafes and restaurants come and go so quickly that you have to keep updating your list.)

If you're interested, come visit Pattaya and check out these cafes. Each one has its own unique style and character. Choose the one that suits your taste and enjoy!

However, there are still many new cafes and serious coffee shops, both new and old, that I haven't included in my list. I plan to do a version 2 of my cafe review, but I haven't had the time to do it yet. Pastry Addiction is also on my list of cafes to review.

So, today I'm going to review it individually. When I have time, I'll add it to my list of other cafes.

- PASTRY ADDICTION -

Pastry Addiction, a bakery that has been open for over a year, is located on the beachfront of the MeraMare Hotel. The bakery's glass walls offer stunning views of the Pattaya coastline.

Anyone driving along Pattaya Beach Road will definitely pass this restaurant. It is definitely the best place to relax in this area... I'm telling you!

On a sunny day, it's nice to sit and enjoy beautiful desserts while enjoying the sea view. ^^

Marble walls and tables are the latest trend among young women. This corner is therefore a favorite spot for customers who come to this shop.

Our bakery offers a wide variety of delicious pastries.

The display case is filled with tempting cakes and other treats.

There are so many cakes!

Gluten-free options are available for those with gluten intolerance.

There are also cookies.

Croissant Danish

Large muffin pieces

Homemade ice cream in various flavors

The dessert creations and other beautiful drinks are plentiful and diverse.

Oh my, I'm spoilt for choice!

'AFTERNOON TEA SET'

One of the signature offerings at the establishment is the 'Afternoon Tea Set,' a selection of afternoon snacks served with tea for two, priced at 450 baht.

The set includes a variety of sweet and savory treats, such as cakes, macarons, sandwiches, tarts, and scones served with mascarpone cream cheese and jam.

Appealingly small and cute, who says it's just a snack? You can actually get full after finishing the whole set.

Now let's take a look at our main course, which is Western-style food. Starting with the first menu...

' Honey Glazed Pork Spare Ribs '

HONEY GLAZED PORK SPARE RIBS SERVED WITH MASHED PEA

Intense flavor, juicy with sauce, and a touch of sweetness from honey.

Eating this menu without losing your composure requires a little patience, as the ribs can be a bit difficult to eat. Slowly and carefully use a knife to slide the meat off the bone.

However, if you're eating without a care in the world, just pick up the ribs and gnaw on them. Suck on your sauce-covered fingers with gusto! 555

' Focaccia Italian Sausage, Tomato and Basil '

FOCCACIA ITALIAN SAUSAGE, TOMATO AND BASIL

This dish resembles a thin-crust pizza topped with Italian sausage, rich tomato sauce, oregano, and black olives. It comes in an oval shape, unlike the round pizzas we are accustomed to.

The official name registered with the district office is 'Focaccia Italian Sausage Tomato and Basil', a rather lengthy name. Alternatively, the Italian name is 'Foccacia Italian Sausage tomato and basil'.

What is Foccacia*?

After a quick Google search, I found that Foccacia is an Italian-style bread made with olive oil instead of butter and baked on a stone slab, resulting in a thin, crispy crust. It is considered the origin of pizza.

I'm not a big fan of thick, doughy pizzas or bread, but I do enjoy thin, crispy Italian-style bread. You should try it!

Stretchy cheese... Doesn't it look delicious?

Another dish is . . .

' Grilled Salmon Sandwich with Crispy Poached Egg '

GRILLED SALMON SANDWICH WITH CRISPY POACH EGG

This fusion dish features a large, crispy-grilled salmon fillet with a teriyaki-like sauce and French fries.

The salmon is topped with a poached egg that has been coated in breadcrumbs and fried. Initially, I wasn't sure what the topping was, thinking it might be a hash brown. But upon cutting into it, I discovered…

…a runny yolk flowing out! It was a poached egg all along! And they didn't even tell me!

Well, the name does say it all: "Crispy Poach Egg."

My apologies… I must not have read the menu thoroughly. I only read as far as "salmon," so I didn't capture the moment I cut into it and the yolk flowed out beautifully. It's like the obligatory shot when ordering an Eggs Benedict, where you capture the runny yolk flowing like lava. Oh well…

(I'll borrow a line from Room39's song "Durian Face": "Can I restart? Can I start eating again? I didn't take a picture in time…")

The highlight of this dish (IMO) is the crispy salmon skin…

…Someone please tell the crispy salmon skin…I love it!

The portions here are quite large. If you come with 2 people, you definitely won't be able to finish everything. So, it's best to come with a group of friends so you can share and try more dishes.^^

It seems like she's enjoying her meal. . . . The table is full!!!

( Thinking to myself: How is she going to finish all of that? Haha )

Sitting at the table outside, I feel a little embarrassed to have ordered so much food. Foreigners walking by look at me and say "Wow, what are you guys eating so much for?"

Pouring tea and having an Afternoon tea set beside her really makes her look like a noblewoman, like an English lady.

I don't know how English ladies pour tea. I've only ever poured it for my grandmother.

In the late afternoon, when the sun is not too strong, it is pleasant to sit outside in the outdoor zone.

For those who are afraid of the heat, you can sit inside in the cool air conditioning. The restaurant has glass windows that offer a view of the sea. ^^

The most beautiful views are probably around 10-11 am and around 6 pm. If you go at 4 or 5 pm, the sun is too strong because the sun is shining directly into the restaurant.

At around 6 pm, you can sit and watch the sunset here. It's beautiful!

When it got dark, the shop inside turned on warm lights, which looked beautiful.

As the meal neared its end, the young French chef emerged from the kitchen to inquire about the diners' satisfaction with their experience.

"It's quite lovely, isn't it? . . . I mean, the chef, of course. >.<

. . . Oh, I mean, coming to ask for customer feedback makes me feel like the chef really cares about the food they make."

When I return to the restaurant, the chef will have to ask the customers like this ^^

From the perspective of a cook, whether it's a chef, a cook, or a housewife cooking for her family, when people compliment that our food is delicious and eat it all up until it's almost impossible to tell what they ate, the cook is happy, delighted, and smiles from ear to ear :)

So I complimented the chef by saying... You look so cute !!!!. . . Crazy, crazy, crazy

I came here to eat, not to flirt with the chef. . .

Actually, I told him, 'Your food is Pretty good😘, Thank you'.

My stomach is about to burst, I'm so full . . .

I was really tempted to try a piece of cake, but my stomach growled loudly, urging me to stop. It was a clear sign that I had eaten enough. So, I decided to postpone my indulgence in cakes and other desserts until next time. . . .

This weekend, if you're visiting Pattaya, stop by Pastry Addiction, a charming cafe on the beachfront road. Located in front of the Mera Mare Hotel, it offers stunning views, delicious desserts, and savory dishes. Parking is available on the side of the cafe or at the hotel's parking lot.

Open daily from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Phone: 086-383-4823.

- Interesting Facts -

**Focaccia originated in Liguria, a coastal region in northern Italy. The cold weather and salty air hindered the leavening of bread dough, leading to the creation of flatbread. This flatbread was typically topped with olive oil and salt, with occasional additions. The addition of tomatoes later transformed it into pizza.
