This trip was a spontaneous one. My friends were planning a trip to Huai Nam Dang, but they had extra seats in their van, so they invited me to join them. I couldn't resist the opportunity. The trip took place in late December and early January. Initially, I wasn't keen on going anywhere during this period because many people would be traveling to the same destinations. However, I decided to go anyway and prepare myself mentally. To avoid traffic, we planned a one-night, one-day trip. We left on December 31st and returned on January 1st. Our sole purpose was to watch the sunrise at Huai Nam Dang.

We departed from Bangkok around 9 pm, meeting near the Victory Monument. We drove straight, stopping at gas stations occasionally. My brother, who was driving, informed me that upon reaching Chiang Mai, we would take the Chiang Mai-Fang Highway, passing through Talad Noi Market, and then turn towards Pai. The distance from Chiang Mai was over a hundred kilometers. We arrived at the national park around 5 am (I slept the entire way). Therefore, the presentation of this trip will likely consist of beautiful pictures, as the primary goal was to witness the sunrise and breathe fresh air.

Nestled within the mountainous region of Doi Inthanon National Park, Huay Nam Dang is a captivating destination spanning across two districts and provinces: Mae Taeng in Chiang Mai and Pai in Mae Hong Son. The area is characterized by its rugged terrain and diverse ecosystems, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Our journey takes us to Doi Kiew Lom, a scenic viewpoint located within the Mae Taeng district of Chiang Mai, where breathtaking vistas await.

The viewpoint offers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle, with crisp, cool air and pristine natural surroundings. The serene atmosphere is further enhanced by the limited number of visitors. Camping facilities are available for those seeking an immersive experience in nature's embrace.

Gazing at the sky, shrouded in dark, ominous clouds, as I wait for the sunrise.

The light gradually grew, revealing the faint outlines of trees and mountains.

As the light began to spread, the sky began to change color. The clouds began to disperse and make way.

The white mist began to emerge from the valley, replacing the sun. It was his time...

Another graceful pose with the tiger lily flower, reflecting the sunlight.

Everything is becoming clearer in every dimension. Everything is starting to organize itself. The beauty of nature is gradually coming together.

A long white light streaks across the sky. How did nature create this?

As the world begins to turn towards a new day, the sunlight sluggishly and slowly attempts to fulfill its duty, resembling a painting created by nature's imagination.

As everything fell into place, people were filled with joy and contentment, witnessing the beauty before them. It was a truly remarkable and heartwarming sight.

And here… another diverse panorama of mist-shrouded mountains in the embrace of the valley, Lamnao Phrai, truly magnificent.

Remember this day...this is Thailand.

Diverse flowers bloom vibrantly, basking in the sunlight.

We are not alone. There are others who, like us, are searching for the first light of day.

These small pink flowers are just as beautiful as any others. I'm lucky to have seen them.

Other flowers are just as beautiful.

It's time to go back. The driver said that we have arrived at the destination. The "Poeng Deua Pa Pae" is worth a visit, as it is not far from here. We agreed and asked the driver to take us there.

In Conclusion

This short trip was a quick getaway to avoid traffic congestion. We were rewarded with a beautiful sunrise and an unexpected encounter with a majestic Asian golden cat. We also had the opportunity to visit the boiling mud pools of Pa Pae, a hidden gem off the beaten path. We are grateful to our driver for taking us on this adventure. We booked our transportation through a tour van service that we found online.

Witnessing and experiencing the beauty of nature, with its verdant trees, lush foliage, and breathtaking mountain vistas, fills our hearts with joy and contentment.

The total cost for the car rental, including driver, is 2,500 baht per day. Fuel costs are separate and will be calculated for two days. The estimated arrival time back in Bangkok is midnight. The average cost per person is 1,000 baht (based on 8 people).

See you next trip.
