Mother's Day Trip to Talad Nam Taling Chan: A 2023 Update
This Mother's Day (August 12, 2023), I decided to take my teenage children on a unique outing to escape the usual mall routine and embrace the fresh air and natural beauty of Talad Nam Taling Chan. With the newly opened Chang Chui as our main destination, we sought nearby attractions to complete our day trip.
While researching Talad Nam Taling Chan, I encountered outdated information, particularly regarding the canal tour schedule. Previously, multiple tour options and times were available, but currently, only two routes remain, and the timings have changed. This discrepancy prompted me to provide an updated account of the market for potential visitors.
Taling Pling Market
Opening Hours: Saturdays, Sundays, and some public holidays, approximately 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Transportation: Bus No. 79 (Ratchaprasong - Salaya Phutthamonthon Line 2) passes in front of the market. Bus No. 83 is also reported to pass by, but I only saw No. 79 during my visit.
Parking: Limited parking is available in front of the market for private vehicles.
International Tourists: The market attracts a significant number of international tourists.
Shop Variety: The market appears to have more plant vendors than food vendors.
Canal Tours: Only two canal tour routes remain operational.
1. One-hour island tour (Taling Pling Market - Wat Ko) Program: Khlong Chak Phra - Khlong Mon Intersection - Enter Khlong Bang Chueak Nang - Exit Khlong Bang Noi - See the way of life of Thai houses, temples and monasteries in the Ayutthaya period. And stop to feed the fish Price 69 baht/person
2. Explore the homes of artists in Khlong Bang Luang, witness a traditional puppet show, and experience the way of life in Thai houses along the route. Price: 99 baht/person. Duration: 3 hours.
(Both routes have different schedules each day, and the number of tours offered varies depending on the number of tourists. Please listen to the announcements or inquire at the tour sales point for the latest schedule.)
The Little Spider has been here once before, but it was a long time ago. I came to try the food on the boat, not to take a tour. I remember there were a lot of food stalls. This time, I read about the tour program on the internet. I intended to bring the teenagers at home to tour the orchid garden as well. However, when I arrived, everything had changed. There was no more orchid garden tour. I asked and was told that it was due to the construction of a large bridge, making it impossible to enter. There are only two routes left, as described above.
Today, I used a taxi service, so I didn't have to worry about parking at either of the two places I visited. The unique feature of this place is the plant sales area at the front, which has such a wide variety of plants that I thought I was at the plant sales area of Chatuchak Weekend Market.

As we approached the end of the market, we came across a tour booth selling canal tours. However, none of the available tours appealed to our group of young adults, so we decided to skip the boat ride and opt for a meal and a stroll through the nearby greenery instead. Arriving around noon, we encountered scorching heat and a large crowd, especially due to the festive season. Consequently, we missed the opportunity to take a boat ride and capture the vibrant atmosphere.
This is the Talat Phlu pier on Khlong Chak Phra. The pier is located under the steel railway bridge that crosses the canal.
The market here is bustling with activity, with food boats lining the edge of the floating platform. You can choose to dine on the platform or on land, but if you're visiting, it's worth trying the platform experience. However, be aware that the platform can get crowded, especially if you choose to sit under the vinyl sunshades, which can make breathing difficult. This might not be ideal for those who are prone to seasickness or dizziness.
The boarding ramp has multiple access points. This particular path leads through the passenger waiting area, where the heavy water traffic is evident. Notably, a significant number of foreign tourists were observed.
Ordering food here can be a bit confusing, but don't worry. Once you have a seat, you can either order directly from the staff if you are a regular customer and don't plan to order much, or wait for someone to bring you a large menu with various options. After reviewing the menu, they will take your order verbally, so there's no need to write it down. The restaurant uses a shouting system to place orders, and your food will be delivered shortly after. Payment is required immediately to avoid confusion. If the item you desire is not on the menu or is not located near your table, you can simply walk over to it, order and pay, and then wait for it to be brought to you.
The young child chose a corner that was not uncomfortable and had a fan blowing on them. However, it was in a zone where they had to sit cross-legged, with no chairs available. At first, it wasn't a problem, but the teenager in the family got a cramp. After finishing their meal, it took them a while to get up and they had to change positions and sit there for a while longer. Note: It is recommended to ask teenagers if they are comfortable sitting like this before choosing a seat in this zone. This will ensure that they are comfortable while eating.

After finishing shopping for plants and souvenirs, it's time to head to our next destination: "Chang Chui." From the front of the floating market, we took a taxi for about 60 baht. If you're driving yourself, look for a large airplane on the side of the road. It's hard to miss.
