This trip, I embarked on a journey to Kanchanaburi, a province near Bangkok with a diverse range of attractions, including nature, mountains, waterfalls, and history. Kanchanaburi is a mountainous province with numerous rivers flowing through it, making it a popular destination for those who enjoy riverside camping or waterfall excursions. However, for this trip, I will take you on a comprehensive tour of Kanchanaburi's hidden gems, offering a unique perspective on the city. I've titled this trip "Kanchanaburi: A Journey Through Time, Fun, and Relaxation."

Retrospective

We started our journey to Kanchanaburi province around 7:30 AM. We drove leisurely, not in a hurry. Our first goal was to take pictures with the giant rain tree. Most of the roads outside the city in Kanchanaburi are two-lane roads, so we had to be careful. We drove past villagers' houses and saw horse stables. Following the GPS, we soon reached our destination.

  • Giant Rain Tree

The towering giant rain tree, standing tall for over a century, is a rare sight to behold in the present day. This majestic specimen, also known as the Samanea saman, boasts a trunk circumference of 10 people embracing it. Its expansive canopy stretches to a radius of 25.87 meters, casting a shade with a diameter of approximately 51.75 meters. Towering at an impressive height of 20 meters from the ground to its crown, the rain tree gracefully extends its branches, creating a breathtaking canopy that provides a picturesque backdrop for capturing memories.

The giant rain tree spreads its branches beautifully.

After taking a picture with the giant rain tree, we quickly drove on to Mallika City.

  • Mallika City

We rushed to the ancient city because we planned to have a buffet lunch there. We arrived around 11:30 am and bought tickets, which included lunch. During this period, there was a promotion of 450 baht per person. Then we went to rent traditional Thai costumes. There were many colors to choose from. The price for men's costumes started at 100 baht per person, while women's costumes were 200 baht per person. After dressing up, we hurried to the city gate to enjoy the atmosphere there. Follow us to see the atmosphere inside the city.

At the front of the city, there are horse-drawn carriages available for those who wish to ride into town or take beautiful photos.

Mansion

The bustling market area is filled with local vendors selling a variety of snacks, food, and daily necessities.

After strolling around for a while, we entered the Thai pavilion in the inner area to enjoy a buffet of ancient Thai dishes. Some of these dishes are hard to find, and some I had only heard of before today. After looking around, we took some food. The taste was delicious. Plus, every dessert looked so tempting. Let's take a look and see how much these buffet dishes will make everyone swallow their saliva.

The Thai House is a restaurant that serves dinner. We also have lunch here.

Ancient Thai cuisine is difficult to find.

Appetizing green curry chicken with rice noodles and boiled egg.

This restaurant uses beautifully patterned cups and bowls, which greatly enhances the dining experience.

Rare Thai desserts: Ma Hor and Khanom Luem Klin

After exploring the vast expanse of Mallika City, we were thoroughly exhausted. The extensive grounds and numerous photo opportunities demanded both physical exertion and creative posing. Eager to unwind, we embarked on our journey to our accommodation.

Relaxation

  • Baan Kokkod: A haven of tranquility nestled amidst lush greenery, offering a serene escape from the bustling city.

The main goal of this trip was to visit Baan Kokkod. We drove leisurely, enjoying the lush greenery along the way. Although it rained lightly during our journey, we reached our destination in approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. From the moment we stepped out of the car, we were captivated by the beauty of the place. The owner personally checked us in and escorted us to our room, highlighting the various amenities of the resort. We opted for a room with a stunning view of the reservoir, as it offered the most idyllic setting. Let's delve into the details of our relaxing experience. The resort provided a delightful dinner set served in a traditional "khantoke" style, priced at a mere 450 baht for two people.

Upon arrival, all fatigue vanished. The atmosphere at Baan Kokkod is serene, surrounded by rivers and mountains. The tranquility makes it an ideal place for relaxation.

We specifically booked this room for its stunning reservoir view. However, it's important to note that this room is not ideal for those seeking comfort and convenience. It's equipped with a fan only and lacks an ensuite bathroom. The shared bathroom facilities are clean, separated by gender, and located nearby. For those who embrace a laid-back approach, these limitations won't pose a significant issue.

The room boasts a simple yet thoughtful design with a stunning view of the reservoir. A comfortable seating area is provided for guests to enjoy the scenery, while a relaxing outdoor seating area is located just outside the room.

The bridge is a great place to take a stroll, and the hotel even offers free paddle boats. Unfortunately, it was raining the day we went, so we weren't able to go out and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the resort by paddle boat.

Situated by the water's edge, with an abundance of reeds, it is no wonder why this place is called "Baan Kok Kot," which translates to "House Embraced by Reeds."

Small flowers around the bridge help to enhance the refreshing atmosphere of the resort.

The newly built Phruksa Village zone features private bathrooms, TVs, and air conditioning units. The surrounding area boasts beautifully landscaped gardens.

The territorial goose was very aggressive. It took several attempts and running away to get this photo.

Breakfast here is a set menu with rice porridge, coffee, and Ovaltine. However, the view from here is excellent while you eat.

The dining area features a mezzanine level with suspended seating for a relaxed atmosphere.

The original text is in Thai and describes a beautiful morning scene with fog. The writer woke up around 6 am and enjoyed the atmosphere, even though the fog prevented them from seeing the sunrise. They also mention a fun experience at the Safari Park in Kanchanaburi.

Here's the translated text:

Waking up around 6 am, I was treated to this beautiful scene. The light fog added a touch of magic to the morning view. Although the thick fog blocked the sunrise, it created a different kind of beauty.

Fun:

  • Safari Park, Kanchanaburi

After checking out, we headed to Bo Phloi District to experience the exciting activities at Safari Park Kanchanaburi. The entrance fee for Thai adults is 200 baht and 100 baht for children. Don't forget to buy carrots for the animals inside, which cost 100 baht. This is an open zoo, and visitors can drive their own cars inside. However, if you don't want to drive, the park provides bus services. Inside, there are various animals divided into zones, including deer, tigers, lions, giraffes, and many more. The highlight of the park is undoubtedly the giraffes. They will poke their heads through the windows to eat carrots, which can be a thrilling experience as they can be quite aggressive after receiving food. After feeding the giraffes, we watched the crocodile and elephant shows. Safari Park Kanchanaburi is a fun and exciting place to visit.

The highlight of this place is feeding the giraffes, who will poke their heads into the safari bus to eat carrots from your hand. It's exciting and thrilling, wondering if you'll get your finger nibbled, but it's a fun and unique experience.

Visitors are welcome to drive their own vehicles into the park. However, when entering the tiger and lion zones, it is mandatory to keep windows closed for safety reasons.
