Doi Luang Tak: A Two-Day Adventure in the Mists
Despite the persistent rain and misty conditions, our two-day adventure at Doi Luang Tak in Tak Province was an unforgettable experience. With its abundance of forests and mountains, Tak offers endless opportunities for exploration, leaving us wanting more even after exhausting our vacation days.
The summit of Doi Luang Tak, located within the Huai Mae Kha Waterfall Forest Park, stands at an elevation of 1175 meters above sea level. The actual trekking distance is approximately 9 kilometers. To embark on the Doi Luang Tak trek, hikers must meet with park officials at the Tung Ka Sae Municipality and then take a pickup truck to the trailhead. The associated costs include: park official fees of 1000 baht per person, porter fees of 1200 baht per person, and transportation to the trailhead for 600 baht.
- Things to know before starting the hike -
1. The trail is not too difficult, with a gradual incline and beautiful natural scenery along the way.
2. There is no water source along the trail, but there is a spring at the campsite where you can refill your water bottles.
3. The campsite can accommodate both tents and hammocks.
4. Leeches are not a major concern on this trail.

Ready to start your hike? Let's go!
The mist teases before revealing Doi Luang Tak, hidden within its embrace.
After leaving the municipal office, we took a pickup truck for a while, passing through the villagers' houses and rice fields, before finally reaching the starting point of our hike.
The distance sign indicates the old route, which is actually shorter now.
A short walk will reveal traces of a stream. Locals say that water only flows during the rainy season.
Walking, walking, walking, walking.
I've been climbing for a while now and I'm starting to get tired. I think I'm about halfway there.
Let's take a break, enjoy the view, and take some photos. My legs are tired.
We can't recall the name of this flower. We were simply enjoying taking pictures.
This is...a child.... What kind of child is this? Hahaha
This trip was incredibly relaxing. We took our time, soaking in the beauty of nature. We walked, rested, and even took naps along the way, reaching the final campsite at the end of the day. During the hike, we chatted with the young porters. Some of them had only climbed a few times, while others were on their first climb. Their experience was limited, so our team members helped them by showing them how to tie their sacks more securely for a more comfortable walk. Sharing our knowledge brought us all a sense of joy.
After a relaxing break, it's time to continue our journey. Let's go!
The view along the way during this period
We are approaching the campsite soon, as we are now surrounded by a dense pine forest.
Before reaching the campsite, you will pass another scenic viewpoint with stunning views, comparable to the one above.
We named it Doi Hu Ling ourselves. It looks quite similar.
Once you pass this point, you will reach the banana forest and the campsite. The campsite is located before the summit of the mountain.
After setting up the tent, it's time to climb the mountain. Let's go!
We have reached the peak, but the highest point is behind that hill.
The rain came down quickly, so we had to leave. We'll come back in the morning.
The rain chased us back to camp just as we were about to reach the summit. We were having too much fun along the way, haha! Well, we'll just have to wait and see what tomorrow morning brings. But one of the best things about camping is the evening meal. We all pitch in to set up camp, cook food, and chat until late at night. We fall asleep listening to the sound of the rain and the wind howling until morning.
It rained all night, so the morning is fresh and dewy.
Waking up with the hope that the weather would clear, I peeked out of the tent only to find... a blanket of white.
The thick fog obscured the view, forcing us to return to camp for breakfast. After packing up, we still couldn't resist the allure of the summit and decided to wait for the fog to clear. Nature rewarded our persistence with a brief 10-20 second window of clear skies, revealing the breathtaking beauty and grandeur of Doi Luang Tak.
The backdrop is filled with fog.
The moment we ascended to the summit, we waited for the weather to cooperate.
This morning, only our group and this dog are still waiting for nature to come down.
The little dog follows us everywhere we go. It is probably a village dog that came up the mountain with the porters.
Patiently waiting for nature to reveal its beauty to us.
A beautiful scene as the fog clears.
Venturing into the wilderness may not always align with our desires, and we must be prepared for potential disappointments. However, happiness can be found along the way. Just like us, try walking and resting during your journey. Haha! #Thank you to all my fellow travelers who endured hardships and shared joy together. #ImPassenger #RainySeasonTravel #DoiLuangTak
For those who are planning to visit during this period, it is the perfect time as it is the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the cool season.
After a long day of exploring, it was time to head back. Goodbye, Doi Luang Tak, until next time! Thank you, nature, for the beautiful views and wonderful memories.
