"Cheeks bulging, exploring the streets" Wandering through the alleys of Ari, a district teeming with culinary delights, one is spoilt for choice. As I ambled along, I stumbled upon a small Japanese-style restaurant tucked away in an alleyway just before Ari Soi 3. A friendly-looking man, resembling Ant-Man, stood outside, his inviting gaze beckoning me in.
For those who have lived in Japan, frequently visit Japan, or are deeply passionate about Japanese culture, HERO Izakaya is a must-visit. This Japanese-style restaurant evokes the atmosphere of small, hidden eateries tucked away in alleyways, waiting to be discovered and cherished by loyal patrons.

The owner, a passionate enthusiast of Japanese culture with frequent visits to the country, was inspired by the laid-back atmosphere of Izakaya-style restaurants in Japan. These establishments provide a space for people to unwind after work, enjoying chilled drinks, socializing, or simply relaxing before heading home. This concept led to the creation of HERO Izakaya, strategically located in a somewhat hidden location, requiring a bit of exploration to discover.
The restaurant offers a variety of simple, skewered dishes that can be ordered individually or cooked at your table (coming soon). The menu features Japanese-style dishes with a spicy kick, perfect for enjoying with drinks. The restaurant boasts a wide selection of beverages, mostly Japanese, with draft beer imported directly from Japan. The special draft system ensures a smooth, creamy head that will satisfy any beer lover. In addition to the skewers, the restaurant also offers a variety of hearty single-plate dishes to fill you up. Some of the popular choices include grilled pork belly with cheese and salt, yakisoba with a fried egg, sukiyaki hot pot with pork (the broth is slightly sweet and salty), and pork rice bowl. Other options include grilled mushrooms and grilled offal.

HERO Izakaya derives its name from the owner's aspiration to share a portion of their year-end profits with the community, embodying the spirit of a "small-scale hero." This concept is reflected in the restaurant's décor, which features classic Japanese superheroes such as Kamen Rider, Tiger Mask, and the Super Sentai series. These characters evoke nostalgia for a generation that is now likely in the workforce. The restaurant aims to provide a space for patrons to reminisce about their childhood and enjoy a carefree gathering with friends. In essence, HERO Izakaya presents itself as an inviting destination for a memorable dining experience.

**HERO Izakaya** is located in Ari Soi (Phahonyothin Soi 7). Walk into the soi for about 300 meters. It is a small soi opposite the Yotsawadee building (you might need to look closely...it's fun). The restaurant is open from 5 pm to midnight. Phone: 0851000595.
