In early November, during a recent holiday, I felt nostalgic for San Pa Kia and decided to go off-roading to satisfy my longing. I explored the winter route in case anyone is interested in following in my footsteps. It's getting cold now! ^^

Take the Chiang Mai-Chiang Dao route. San Pa Kia is located on Doi Mae Ta Man, within the Mae Ta Man Watershed Management Unit, Mae Na Subdistrict, Chiang Dao District. When viewed from the summit of Doi Mae Ta Man, Doi Luang Chiang Dao can be seen in all its glory on the opposite side. Upon reaching Chiang Dao, turn off to the San Pa Kia Highland Agricultural Station (San Pa Kia School).

Turn left here.

Village path

The journey is accompanied by the delightful scenery of golden rice paddies swaying in the wind.

Continue driving straight until you reach the Jomkhiri Wildlife Checkpoint. You can stop there to use the restroom.

The view of Chiang Dao city is breathtaking.

The climb has begun.

The ascent to the peak is approximately 18 kilometers, but the path is quite challenging due to its steep inclines, narrowness, and predominantly unpaved terrain. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended for this route, although motorcycles are also an option. While the distance is not significant, the drive uphill can take over an hour.

The concrete road has disappeared.

The ground is firm now that the rainy season has passed, making driving more comfortable. We came across a house by the road that looked like a small cottage in a large forest, so we stopped to take some pictures. There was a small lotus pond and a stream flowing through it.

The locals came out to greet us with great hospitality.

After the saddle, the Doi dog is really slim. Handing out grilled chicken.

Continuing on... encountered a herd of cows blocking the road.

This leader is likely the one that leads the pack to forage and back home. It has a bell around its neck.

Some sections of the path will be like this.

If you have time, you can visit San Pa Kia School. The view is beautiful. It would be nice to bring some snacks for the children. The view of the school has been reviewed in this article: https://th.readme.me/p/7784

The scenic views near the school are also very pleasant.

As we drove uphill, the dense forest of Keea began to appear, filling the air with a fragrant, earthy aroma.

The weather is cool and comfortable, with a slight chill in the air. Let's stop and enjoy the view.

Doi Luang Chiang Dao is clearly visible. The sky is very clear these days. Let's breathe in the ozone to our lungs!

Let's continue to the top of the mountain, it's not far.

I have arrived.

The poinsettia's vibrant red leaves signal the arrival of winter.

Beautiful flowers

The flowers vary from year to year, and each season offers a different kind of beauty. This photo was taken in November last year, when the cosmos flowers were in full bloom and the clouds were abundant. This year, however, the sky is much clearer.

This area offers both tent camping and bungalows. Camping costs approximately 100 baht, while bungalows range from 500 to 1,000 baht. For inquiries, please contact the Mae Ta Man Headwaters Management Unit. However, please note that food is not available for purchase, so you must bring your own.

The sky is clear with some sunshine, but the wind is strong and it's very cold. The temperature is much lower than on the plains. It's a good thing I brought a warm coat.

A breathtaking view of Doi Luang Chiang Dao, a mountain that inspires dreams.

The Siamese tiger flower tree is shedding its leaves in preparation for blooming with stunning pink flowers later this year. Visitors to the area will be able to witness Thailand's very own "sakura" in full bloom.

Admire the beautiful nature.
