Temple 1: Wat Yai Chaimongkol
The temple, originally known as "Wat Pa Kaeo" or "Wat Chao Thai," is situated on the southeastern side of Ko Phra Nakhon.
The temple's most prominent feature is its large stupa, believed to have been renovated during the reign of King Naresuan the Great. Inside the ordination hall, the sacred Buddha statue, Phra Phuttha Chaiyamongkol, serves as the principal image.
Temple 2: Wat Mahathat
One of the temples within the Ayutthaya Historical Park, Wat Phra Si Sanphet played a significant role during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It housed the sacred relics of the Buddha and served as the residence of the Supreme Patriarch of the Khamwawasi sect. Consequently, the temple received continuous construction and maintenance throughout its existence.
The highlight of this temple is the Buddha head embedded in the roots of a banyan tree, an unseen wonder in Thailand that is highly recommended for a firsthand experience.
