Retreat and relax amidst the natural beauty of Cheow Lan Lake.
Surat Thani Province is another province that I have visited frequently. *Most of my trips have focused on visiting the sea or various islands*, such as Koh Samui or Koh Phangan, which I have had the opportunity to visit many times. When I arrive in Surat Thani Province, I immediately head east towards the Gulf of Thailand. *However, on this occasion*, I will be heading to the west side to visit the **Cheow Lan Dam**.
**Cheow Lan Dam**, also known as **Rachaprapha Dam**, is not only a dam that stores water for various uses, but also a famous tourist destination in **Surat Thani Province**. It is a beautiful, natural place that is perfect for a relaxing getaway. This was my first time visiting this place, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable experience.
Panvaree Resort, Cheow Lan Lake
This trip to Cheow Lan Lake gave me the opportunity to stay at Panvaree Resort, a floating resort with an excellent location. The back of the resort faces a towering limestone cliff, while the front overlooks a body of water surrounded by distant limestone mountains. The overall atmosphere is pleasant. The resort offers various packages for accommodation, and since I had limited time, I opted for a one-night stay. I chose the 2-day, 1-night package (including one night's accommodation, three meals, round-trip boat transfers/tour boat, Guilin Trip, Morning Safari, and kayak/floating chair/floating mat).
Package price starts at 3,500 baht/person. However, promotional prices will be released continuously. Please follow the Panvaree Resort fan page for updates.

DAY #1
7:15 AM Departure!
The journey began at Don Mueang Airport, using AirAsia. Before arriving at the airport, I calculated the time it would take to reach the airport from Mo Chit BTS station by taking the A1 bus, which starts at 6:00 AM. The timing was tight for catching the flight. Therefore, I checked in online and printed the boarding pass in advance. This proved to be convenient. Taking the first A1 bus, it took 20 minutes to reach the airport. I could then walk directly to the gate, ensuring a quick and timely boarding.
I met up with the other two members of my travel group, who also arrived at Don Mueang Airport around the same time. We then proceeded to the gate to prepare for our flight to **Surat Thani Province**.
The weather this morning is quite cloudy, as if it's going to rain. I hope the weather at my destination is good and I don't encounter any rain. If it does rain, it would be quite unfortunate.
After nearly an hour of travel, the plane began its descent. Looking out the window, I was relieved to see clear skies and sunshine. This trip was definitely going to be smooth sailing. 55+
8:30 AM Surat Thani Airport
It took about an hour to reach Surat Thani Province. Before boarding the plane at Don Mueang Airport, I had called a van service, Surat Thani - Tha Ruean Dam Pier, to pick me up at the airport. This saved me the time of going into the city. I simply provided the number of passengers, my contact phone number, and the arrival time. The van arrived on time to pick me up. (Van service phone number: 077-287059) When I arrived and turned on my phone, the driver called me immediately. The van was waiting to pick me up. (Fare: 200 baht/person)
Take a van to the **Kheun Dam Pier**, which is about 60 kilometers from the airport. The journey takes about 1 hour. *You can take a nap during this time...*
Passengers boarded and disembarked throughout the journey. By the time we neared the pier, only my group of three remained. As we approached the pier, the van driver asked if we wanted to stop and buy anything. We agreed, and he stopped at a convenience store so we could stock up on snacks and drinks for the boat trip. (Remember to ask for the van driver's phone number to schedule your return trip to the airport.)
10:00 AM. Ratchaprapha Dam Pier
After a short stop at a local shop, we arrived at the **Ratchaprapha Dam Pier**. The weather was scorching hot, with the sun beating down relentlessly.
First, you need to pay the park entrance fee. For Thai citizens, it is 40 baht per person.
For this trip, I traveled with a package from Pha Panwaree Resort. The package included the boat fare, so there were no additional costs in this regard.
I have made an appointment with the resort's boat to pick me up at 11:30 AM. There is still plenty of time before the boat arrives, so I am looking for a place to sit and relax, and maybe grab a bite to eat. There are many restaurants and shops near the pier where I can sit and wait for the boat.

And then… it was time for the boat to pick us up. We helped each other carry our belongings onto the boat and then set sail for the floating accommodation.
The weather today is very clear, and the sun is also very strong. It's a good thing that the boat has a roof to block the sun, otherwise we would definitely have changed our skin color by the time we reach our destination.
During the journey... we enjoyed the scenery at a leisurely pace. The boat ride would take another 45 minutes or so. The views on both sides were so beautiful that the boat driver shouted to us, "You can go sit and enjoy the view at the bow, too! Go all out!"
The boat began to approach the towering limestone mountains, which served as the gateway to the Cheow Lan Dam.
The boat driver slowly reduced the speed, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the atmosphere. We could stop and take pictures at any angle we desired.
12:30 PM. Arrived!! ..Pha Pan Wa Ri Resort (Classic Zone)
The boat slowed down, preparing to dock at the floating accommodation.
First impression: The location is fantastic! Perhaps it's due to the tranquil atmosphere, the natural surroundings, and the prominent limestone cliff that serves as a majestic backdrop. Overall, it's a beautiful and relaxing place to stay.
I met with Mr. Goong, the manager of Pha Pan Waree Resort, who personally welcomed me with a refreshing welcome drink to cool down from the heat.
This area serves as a communal space with a dining room, a lounge area, and a waterfront access for swimming.
The area with the green artificial grass is like a space for various water activities or just to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. In front of this area, there is a beautiful view of the water surrounded by limestone mountains.
After resting for a while, Mr. Goong took us to the guest rooms. There were a total of 5 rooms, lined up with a small walkway at the back connecting each room.
Just a glimpse of the back path reveals the vibrant colors of the water, showcasing its remarkable clarity and beauty.
Our first room is located right at the front, so you won't have to walk far. Each building has two rooms, each of which can accommodate four people. In front of the accommodation, you can open the door and sit by the water to relax. During the day, when the sun is shining brightly, the water color looks even more beautiful and clear.
In front of the accommodation, you can comfortably sit with your legs dangling in the water and observe large schools of fish swimming around beneath the surface.
The room's interior is modern and clean, with amenities such as a TV, refrigerator, air conditioning, and a fan. However, electricity is only available during specific hours (6:00 PM - 9:00 AM).
Within the same accommodation, the room we stayed in happened to be a bit cluttered with our belongings and the food we brought along. So, we're taking the liberty of showing you the ambiance of the room next door instead. As you can see, everything in the room is quite similar...
The room has a mezzanine level, where two more people can sleep by climbing the stairs. One of us will also have to climb up to sleep on the mezzanine level.
The wardrobe has extra pillows in case you need more or want to add some.
Let's take a look at the **bathroom**, which is located at the back of each room. Inside the bathroom, there is a shower area with a gas-powered water heater, liquid soap, and shampoo provided.
1:00 PM. Lunch... The first meal on the raft.
It's lunchtime. I'm very hungry.
Mr. Goong called us to arrange lunch after the food was prepared on the dining table. Each dish looked delicious. If you're not full with some menus, you can add more.
The menu features simple dishes such as clear soup, yellow curry, stir-fried mixed vegetables, omelet, and fresh fruit for dessert.
After a satisfying lunch, it's time to relax. There's nothing better than lying down and taking a nap in this afternoon atmosphere.
The restaurant offers complimentary water, tea, and coffee. Feel free to enjoy them at any time.
For those who want ice to keep their drinks cool and refreshing, there is a large cooler service available for 100 baht.
The atmosphere in front of the accommodation in the late afternoon. The sunlight began to fade behind the mountains.
4:00 PM. Take a boat to Khao Sam Kler (Thai Guilin).
Take a nap. When we woke up, it was time to go out on the boat to see Khao Sam Kler. It was good to go out in the late afternoon like this because the sun wasn't too strong.
The boat will depart from the accommodation and travel a short distance to Khao Sam Kler. The round trip should take less than an hour, allowing for a return to the accommodation.
On this trip, Mr. Goong also joined the boat. He provided guidance and shared the history of this place.
After a short boat ride, we arrived at Khao Sam Kler, also known as the "Guilin of Thailand." This is a must-see landmark, and the boat will stop here for you to take photos at your leisure.
After enjoying the stunning views of Khao Sam Kler, it was time to head back to the floating raft where we were staying. As we made our way back, we were treated to the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding mountains.
5:30 PM. The sun is setting and the wind is calming down. It's time to play in the water!
The sun began to set... It was the perfect time to go swimming. You can swim right in front of your accommodation.
Enjoy to the fullest! 55+
Each room will be equipped with floating cushions and floating chairs.
Kayaks are also available for paddling.

In the cool evening atmosphere, it's truly relaxing to go kayaking.
6:00 PM. Full course... Dinner
After taking a shower and changing clothes, we went to have dinner, which had already been prepared and laid out on the table.
Today, there is **fried fish** for dinner. I was just craving a fish dish.
The highlight of the menu is undoubtedly the fish curry, boasting the bold flavors of southern Thailand.
Stir-fried Morning Glory with Egg
Pork bone soup
Boiled vegetables and chili paste are also delicious.

The food was delicious and we were all very full after eating. 55+
7:00 PM: Loy Krathong in the Sacred Land
The day's activities are not yet over...
Before departing for rest, one final activity remained: a lantern-floating ceremony in the sacred land. Participants boarded a boat and ventured into the darkness for approximately 10 minutes, reaching the designated area in front of the shrine of Father Ta Chong Dong, a revered site believed to safeguard the region.
For the kratong, the accommodation will prepare it for you, and you can donate to the donation box according to your faith. When you have received the kratong, you will take a boat to the kratong floating point. This kratong floating is to worship and apologize to Shrine of Father Ta Chong Dong and to commemorate the many lives that were sacrificed before becoming the present dam.
DAY #2
6:00 AM. Good morning!
Waking up to a new day...
Stepping out of the room, I was greeted by a fantastic atmosphere. Although it was a pity that there was little morning mist today.
This morning.. I sat down to sip some hot coffee and enjoy the atmosphere. It was quite alright..
This corner... is for those who have a lot of business to do, as it is the corner with the strongest phone signal (AIS). However... it is only strong enough to communicate sometimes, not always.
Morning atmosphere with distant mist.
7:00 AM: Embark on a Morning Safari!
The final activity before returning was a boat trip to observe wildlife and nature.
At approximately seven o'clock in the morning, Mr. Goong called us to board the boat again. This time, he would take us on a Morning Safari, an activity that involves taking a boat ride to observe the wildlife and natural beauty of the area. This is a relaxing morning activity that lasts about an hour.
After a short boat ride, we reached the spot where Mr. Goong said there would be a lot of mist. However, due to the weather conditions or perhaps because we set out too late, we only saw a faint mist in the distance. Overall, it was still a good experience. It was nice to be able to take a boat ride and breathe in the fresh morning air.
We stopped by to pay respects at the **Shrine of Father-in-law Chongdong**, where we had floated a krathong the previous night. However, it was dark then, so we came back again. The shrine is a sacred place, and **the local people believe that Father-in-law Chongdong protects and guards this area.**

While sailing, we encountered various species of birds perched on the branches. According to our guide, we might even spot a hornbill if we were lucky.
In the morning, there were not many boats running in the reservoir, so the atmosphere was quite peaceful. We were able to soak in the morning nature for the last time.
8:30 AM: Breakfast and Departure Preparations!
The check-out time here is 9:30 AM.
We had about an hour to prepare breakfast, shower, and take care of personal matters before heading back. After returning from the morning safari, a simple breakfast was waiting for us on the table. It consisted of bread, ham, bacon, boiled eggs, and hot rice porridge.
While waiting for the return boat, we had some time to relax and let the food settle.
At 9:30 AM, it was time to check out. We helped each other carry our luggage onto the boat and headed back to the pier.
Upon arriving at the Cheow Lan Dam pier, I called for a van to pick me up. As I had plenty of time, I made the call at the pier. However, if you are in a hurry, you can call in advance from the floating raft. This is because you will need to wait for the van for a while. I waited for about half an hour before the van arrived and took me straight to Surat Thani Airport.
To avoid any unexpected delays on the return trip, I checked in online in advance. Upon arrival at the airport, I simply printed my boarding pass at the AirAsia kiosk. This convenient process allowed me to proceed directly to the gate and prepare for my flight back to Bangkok.
This trip... was a short, relaxing getaway to Cheow Lan Lake for 2 days and 1 night. We were able to truly unwind, sleeping, eating, swimming, and enjoying ourselves to the fullest.
If you're interested, come visit Cheow Lan Dam. The atmosphere is amazing, you must visit at least once!
