After checking in and enjoying a coffee at Coffee Cove, we headed to our next activity, which was scheduled to begin shortly.
We quickly put our belongings away in our room and then joined the activity. The activity was "tie-dyeing shirts." When we arrived, the staff had already prepared everything for us.
Our instructor for today's tie-dye workshop.
Required Equipment:
- To dye clothes, you need clothes. You can dye as many as you like.
- To dye clothes, you need dye. For this project, we will use "Indigo powder for dyeing clothes 1 sachet". You can find it at stores that sell it.
- To tie clothes, you need string or rubber bands. (Rubber bands, don't look confused)
- Beautiful Japanese blocks for folding clothes.
- Salt / Water / Bucket (to put water in, of course)
- Gloves / Apron, but if you're not afraid of getting dirty, you don't need to wear them.
The speaker showed the audience a shirt as an example, suggesting that they could choose the same style and color. However, they also mentioned that participants were free to choose a different color if they preferred.
The first method involves folding and then tying.
Instructions:
- Fill both buckets halfway with water. Do not use a cup, as it will not be enough to soak the shirt.
- Dissolve the salt in the water in the bucket. Do not dissolve it outside the bucket, as this will waste salt. Our salt water bucket is green. Wait for it.
- Similarly, dissolve the indigo powder in water. Use the blue bucket and wait as before.
- Take the prepared T-shirt (it doesn't matter if it's stretched or not, choose what you're comfortable with). Create patterns by folding, crumpling, rolling, or tying it as you like.
Fold the second one in the Japanese style and tie it as before.
This will be made into a snail shape (it's a snail, that's right, if you add a falling tone it will be a hanging bottom). Just pinch and roll the center.
But if you want to roll the end, you can do it too. Don't worry.

T-shirts with tied patterns have been received and are awaiting further processing.
Saline solution tank and prepared indigo tank
Submerge the neatly tied shirts in salt water, ensuring the salt water permeates the entire garment.
Immersion Process
Next, immerse the salt-soaked shirt in the indigo vat.
Soak for about 10 minutes, but the longer the better, the more color will stick.
But you don't have to soak it for a year, just a month. No, just 10-60 minutes will do, depending on your convenience.
After draining the water, remove the various bindings from the heart. No, don't tie the shirt and unfold it.
This pattern is made by folding the fabric into a triangle and tying it with a rubber band.
This allows us to create unique and unpredictable patterns, limited editions, and one-of-a-kind pieces. We don't want to boast about our own creativity, but the work speaks for itself.
This pattern is created by folding fabric according to the Japanese square pattern.
This pattern is a spiral pattern.
Within an hour, we have successfully completed all three steps. We now have an indigo-dyed shirt that was not created by Four S, but rather by ourselves! It is a one-of-a-kind piece that cannot be replicated, even if we were to try again. We are truly skilled!
Before wearing, remember to wash the garment to prevent itching. If you are unsure whether the color will set properly, wash it separately or soak it in salt water overnight for extra precaution.
But wait, there's more!
At Peggy's Cove Fisherman Village, colorful "fisherman's outfits" in yellow, red, and blue are available for free to wear for photos. Don't miss out! Put one on, or you won't be able to talk to them. Haha!
