Following the recommendations, Bang Krachao, the green lung of the capital, has become incredibly popular. There are countless reviews of Bang Krachao, each showcasing stunning photos. This time, I'm-on-it took the opportunity to visit this renowned destination.
With limited time in the afternoon, we planned to visit the Bangkok Tree House for a snack in the restaurant zone before exploring the Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Public Park and Botanical Garden, also known as "Suan Sri," a prominent landmark in the Bang Krachao peninsula.
Getting to Bang Krachao
There are several ways to reach Bang Krachao:
- By car: Drive to your desired destination and park there.
- By ferry from Bang Na: Take the ferry from Wat Bang Na Nok and disembark at Wat Nang Nuea Nok. This is the closest option to Bangko Tree House.
- By ferry from Khlong Toei: Take the ferry from Wat Khlong Toei Nok and disembark at Bang Krachao Pier. This pier is closest to Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park.
- By taxi: It's recommended to get dropped off at Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market, Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nai, Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nok, or Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park. These locations offer convenient bicycle rentals for exploring the island.
After reviewing the restaurant online and checking the map, we discovered that following the map's directions to Bangkok Tree House would lead us into the wilderness. To avoid getting lost, we recommend parking at Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nok and walking to the restaurant, or taking a boat from the temple's pier. These are the two most convenient options.
There is a path along the riverbank (facing the river, it will be on the right). We need to follow that path for a while. The path is quite long and narrow, and there will be bicycles and motorcycles passing us all the time. So be careful to avoid them.
We have arrived.
Hurry up and grab some food before it gets too hot. The pastries here are delicious, they say they're made with an Italian recipe. So soft!
The cafe zone is like this. There is also an air-conditioned room and an upper floor where we can walk and sit. However, when we went there in the afternoon at 3 pm, the sun was very strong. We might get burned to a crisp.
This photo was taken from the top of the cafe looking towards the accommodation area. I almost died standing there for a moment.
Let's go for a walk downstairs.
Pavilion by the water, beautiful view
At Khlong Bang Kachao, the main activity is cycling around the bend. We can park our car and rent a bicycle to ride around the bend. It is recommended to park the car at Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nok.
While cycling might seem like an appealing option, be warned: it's not as straightforward as it appears. The roads here are narrow, and despite the presence of bike lanes, they offer limited assistance. Additionally, the cycling distance is considerable. Therefore, if you're not a confident cyclist, it's best to avoid attempting it. However, there's still the possibility of renting a bike and enjoying a leisurely ride within the park itself.
The bicycle rental fee is 40 baht. It was already evening then, but I felt that if you rent it for a day, it would be 100 baht per day. There are many types to choose from, whether you want to ride alone, ride with two people, or have a basket at the back to put your dog in. Once you have your bike, you can ride it.
This is the bird-watching tower where everyone goes to take a photo of themselves lying down and "cycling" in the air. 555+ But I'll pass, thanks. I'm a bit shy.
The area is incredibly vast and the atmosphere is truly wonderful. The only thing missing is the cool air. Visiting during the winter season would be an absolute delight.
This trip to Bang Krachao was quite a sweaty one, but enjoyable nonetheless. However, when asked if I would visit frequently, my answer would be no. Not because it wasn't enjoyable, but due to the distance. For someone residing in Don Mueang like myself, it's quite a trek. For those who simply want to cycle in a park, without exploring the island's surroundings or visiting the Bang Nam Phueng market, Suan Rot Fai (the Train Park) would be a more convenient option. However, if you're looking to capture photos, enjoy the scenery, and soak in the atmosphere, then Bang Krachao is definitely worth the trip. It's a great experience!
