Central Group, in collaboration with the Pathum Wan District Office, is organizing the "Central...Love the Earth: Giving Green Space to Bangkok" event to promote the development of an environmentally friendly metropolis.

Central Department Store, in collaboration with Pathum Wan District, has launched the "Central...Love the Earth: Giving Green Space to Bangkok" campaign, in line with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's "Green Metropolis" policy. With an investment of 1,500,000 baht, the project aims to transform the median strip along Phetchaburi Road into a green space, adding more trees and greenery to the city center. The project will be handed over to Pathum Wan District for ongoing maintenance, with the goal of reducing pollution and creating a sustainable ecosystem, contributing to Bangkok's transformation into an environmentally friendly metropolis.

At a recent event held at the Emerald Lawn of Central Chidlom, Mr. Pathurut Thamthanaron, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, presided over the ceremony. He was joined by Ms. Nawaporn Klinbuagaew, Director of Pathumwan District Office, Ms. Thiamchan Vorasongsa and Mr. Sophan Wongduangkamphu, Assistant Directors of Pathumwan District Office. Ms. Yuwadee Chirathivat, Executive Director of Central Retail, Central Group of Companies, Dr. Piyapong Thannyasrisangh, Senior Executive Vice President of Administration, Mr. Jean Channont, Director of Public Relations, Ms. Patchree Thipayamathutr, Branch Manager of Central Chidlom, Central Department Store Co., Ltd. led the team of executives and employees to welcome the guests. Many distinguished guests witnessed the event.

Yuvdee Chirathivat stated at the event that Central department store, under the Central Group, has been operating its retail business under the concept of "Central...Love the Earth" for 10 years (since 2008). The concept emphasizes the efficient use of resources, cost-effectiveness, and the promotion of sustainable global warming reduction. It also aims to share with the community and society. "We have continuously implemented policies to campaign against global warming, including this latest project. We have responded to the policy of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration by collaborating with the Pathum Wan District Office to increase green spaces. We have improved the area around the median strip on Phetchaburi Road, creating a garden and planting trees, including frangipani, Chinese banyan, and Indian cork trees. We have also decorated the vertical yellow flame trees from the intersection of Chidlom Road in front of Central Chidlom to the intersection of Witthayu Road in front of Central Embassy. In addition, we have arranged gardens, planted, and trimmed trees in Soi Somkid since February until its completion in mid-April. The project cost over 1,500,000 baht. This project helps increase green spaces in the city center, which has heavy traffic. It also creates a sustainable ecosystem, helps reduce air pollution, increases oxygen, and enhances the beautiful scenery of the Pathum Wan district."

According to Phattarut Tamtharanon, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's 2018 Action Plan is based on the goals and strategies outlined in the Bangkok Metropolitan Development Plan, Phase 2 (2018-2022). One of the seven development strategies is "Green and Convenient Metropolis." The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has continued its Green City policy, which aims to reduce pollution and mitigate climate change. "These development initiatives require collaboration and environmental awareness, including energy and electricity conservation, as well as tree planting to increase green spaces," he said. "I believe that if all sectors work together, we can lead Bangkok to energy and environmental sustainability, making it a 'Green City' that contributes to a better urban environment, enhancing the city's competitiveness in the global economy, where environmental concerns are paramount."

“On behalf of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, I am delighted that Central Group and Central Department Store have recognized the importance of environmental issues and have continuously implemented policies to reduce global warming, including this latest project. In collaboration with Pathumwan District, they have increased green spaces on the median strip along Ploenchit Road, from Witthayu Road intersection to Chidlom Road intersection, to provide a beautiful landscape and reduce air pollution. This project is another model that demonstrates the power of collaboration in adapting to make Bangkok an environmentally friendly metropolis for the well-being of all of us,” said the Deputy Governor of Bangkok.

Following the ceremony to donate the green space to Bangkok, Yuvadee Chirathivat and the executive team led the Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, the Director of Pathumwan District, and Bangkok officials, as well as distinguished guests, on a tour of the surrounding landscape, which had been beautifully improved. The event concluded successfully, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.

This is a beautiful image of the collaboration between the government, private sector, and all stakeholders in responding to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's policy to elevate Bangkok's standards for sustainable environmental friendliness.
