Sorabol Korean Restaurant

Hello,

This review features John, the second-generation owner of Sorabel, a Korean restaurant established by his mother 50 years ago. John's family has dedicated themselves to sharing authentic Korean cuisine with Thais, foreigners, and Koreans residing in Thailand. The restaurant offers a taste of home-cooked Korean food, attracting both Thai customers who appreciate traditional Korean cuisine and the Korean embassy for official and internal events. Notably, celebrities and renowned figures from Korea frequently visit Sorabel during their trips to Thailand, further solidifying the restaurant's reputation for quality.

The interior boasts a beautiful Korean-style aesthetic, with a bright and spacious layout spanning two floors. The focus is on private rooms, offering a wide range of sizes to accommodate various needs.

Side Dishes

The restaurant offers a complimentary and refillable selection of side dishes. The ingredients are fresh, clean, and of high quality. The flavors are well-balanced and delicious, especially the kimchi. The kimchi has a perfect balance of softness and crunch, and the flavor is just right. John, the owner, says that he makes over 200 kilograms of kimchi per week, and other restaurants also purchase it. This high turnover ensures that the kimchi is always fresh and flavorful.

Gujeolpan: A Culinary Symphony of Textures and Flavors

The Gujeolpan, also known as Nongu, is a vibrant and delectable dish that tantalizes the taste buds with its diverse array of ingredients and textures. Finely chopped vegetables, seafood, and meats are artfully arranged on a thin, colorful pancake made from pandan leaves and pumpkin. The pancake's delicate texture contrasts beautifully with the crispness of the vegetables and the tenderness of the meat, creating a symphony of sensations in every bite. The accompanying sauce, with its balanced flavors, complements the dish perfectly, enhancing the natural flavors of the ingredients without overpowering them. Gujeolpan is a light and refreshing appetizer that is sure to whet the appetite and leave a lasting impression on the palate.

‘Yukhwe’

Yukhwe is a Korean raw beef salad that uses high-quality beef sliced into thin strips and mixed with fresh pear, egg, and sauce. The beef is incredibly tender and has no odor. The flavor is a delicious combination of sweet, savory, and nutty, with a hint of saltiness. The coolness of the beef adds a refreshing touch, making it the perfect way to start a meal.

‘Galbi Jjim’
This thick-cut short rib stew is visually appealing and boasts a perfect tenderness that is neither too tough nor too mushy. The various vegetables are also soft and enjoyable to eat. The stew is served with just enough sauce to coat the ingredients, but the aroma and flavor are strong and distinct. Overall, this dish is well-executed.

The barbecue menu features a built-in grill on the table with an efficient smoke extraction system. The restaurant uses charcoal and replaces the grill grate with each new order.

‘Yang Nyum Galbi’

This refers to thick, well-marinated short ribs with an appealing appearance.

The staff will take care of it.

Large, thick, beautiful, and visually appealing. The meat is thick and satisfying, with a soft and chewy texture. The marinade sauce is thoroughly infused into the meat, making it incredibly flavorful and bouncy. The sweet and salty flavors are distinct and intense, eliminating the need for dipping sauce. Highly recommended.

Accompanying vegetables include Korean-style salads with a slightly salty and savory flavor.

And a variety of fresh vegetables

The dipping sauce is fragrant, rich, and well-balanced, but you can adjust the spiciness to your liking by adding chili and garlic.

Garnished with fresh vegetables and topped with various ingredients to your heart's content.

‘Saeng Galbi’
Untreated short ribs are also available. The pieces are still large, thick, and beautifully presented.

The texture will be firmer after tasting, and we will be able to taste the meat most clearly. Recommended.

To enhance the meat's flavor, it is dipped in sesame oil and salt.

If you prefer a clear meat texture, choose the unmarinated option. However, if you enjoy a more flavorful experience that showcases the restaurant's culinary skills, the marinated option is recommended.

'Chadol Baeki'

This refers to a thick-cut, well-marbled slice of brisket with a tender texture and optimal chewiness, meeting the expected quality standards.

‘Galbisal’
The boneless ribs will be more chewy and have a more pronounced sweet aroma.

Crispy, chewy, and satisfying. If you like a bit of a chew, I recommend it.

‘Sam Gyeop Sal’
The Thai name for this dish is ‘Moo Sam Chan Style Bang’, but let me tell you, it's not thin (haha). It's beautifully rolled pork belly, sliced to a thickness that looks good and has a perfect ratio of meat to fat. It's so fragrant and flavorful, and the texture is just right. Highly recommended.

'Dwaeji Galbi'
Marinated pork ribs are another best-selling menu item at the restaurant. The tender meat is marinated to perfection, resulting in a flavorful dish that is ready to be enjoyed with various side dishes. Highly recommended.

‘Haemulpajeon’: A Savory Seafood Pancake

This popular pancake dish serves 2-4 people and features a generous portion of squid and scallions. The pancake itself is thick and satisfying, packed with ingredients and boasting a visually appealing presentation. The flavorful batter possesses its own unique taste, while the texture varies pleasantly between crispy and soft throughout. The highlight is the abundance of squid, which is cut into sizable pieces and provides a satisfyingly chewy bite with every mouthful. The scallions add another dimension of flavor, complementing the seafood perfectly.

Samgye Tang
Korean ginseng chicken soup is a classic dish that uses a whole chicken stuffed with various ingredients according to a traditional recipe. The broth is a basic chicken soup, emphasizing the classic nature of the dish, which focuses on the quality of nutrients from high-quality ingredients without excessive seasoning. Recommended.

"Buk-o guk"
This is a delicious dried fish soup with egg. It has a sweet, savory, and slightly salty flavor that is very satisfying. Highly recommended.

"Dudae Jigae"
A kimchi stew with ham and sausage, served in a pot for 3-5 people.

Add Korean instant noodles for extra indulgence. The various ingredients are of good quality. The highlight is the well-balanced broth, which is flavorful without being too bland or overpowering. It's well-executed.

‘Soodubu Jigae’

This tofu and egg soup offers a harmonious blend of silky tofu and rich egg in a mild broth. The absence of spice allows the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine, creating a comforting and satisfying dish.

'Jabchae'

This dish features chewy Korean glass noodles stir-fried with pork for 2-4 people. The noodles are cooked to a perfect al dente texture and seasoned with a balanced, flavorful sauce that is neither too spicy nor oily. The overall execution is excellent.

'Dolsot Bibimbab'
Korean mixed rice with a variety of textures and flavors, the main flavor coming from the well-made sauce.

'Tteok'

This sweet treat boasts a smooth, chewy texture and a delightful sweetness that isn't overpowering. Personally, I recommend…

'Patbingsoo'
Shaved ice with red beans and fruit salad, also known as bingsu. However, the shop offers it in the traditional style that was popular in the past.

A wide variety of drinks are available, with drink promotions to choose from. For this meal, soju is the answer for Ronaldo.
