Nakhorn Si Thammarat: A Verdant Escape

The allure of Nakhorn Si Thammarat finally beckoned, and fate led me on a southward journey to explore this long-desired city. Unlike the typical beach vacation, I sought a different experience – a verdant escape amidst the lush greenery, cascading rain, and mist-shrouded mountains of Khao Luang.

A Journey Through the Southern Forests: Exploring Three Unique Communities

Nestled amidst the verdant hills and cascading waterfalls of southern Thailand, three distinct communities offer a captivating glimpse into the region's rich cultural tapestry. While sharing similarities in their proximity to the Khao Luang mountain range, the communities of Kiree Wong, Lan Saka, Phrom Lok, and Krung Ching each possess a unique charm that invites exploration.

Kiree Wong: This community, nestled in the embrace of the Khao Luang National Park, boasts a rich biodiversity and breathtaking natural landscapes. Visitors can immerse themselves in the tranquility of the rainforest, embark on thrilling wildlife encounters, and discover hidden waterfalls.

Lan Saka: Known for its vibrant agricultural heritage, Lan Saka offers a glimpse into the traditional farming practices of the region. Visitors can witness the cultivation of diverse crops, savor the flavors of local cuisine, and experience the warmth of rural hospitality.

Phrom Lok: This community, steeped in history and cultural traditions, showcases the region's artistic heritage. Visitors can admire intricate wood carvings, witness traditional dance performances, and delve into the fascinating stories that have shaped the community's identity.

Krung Ching: Nestled amidst lush rubber plantations, Krung Ching offers a unique blend of natural beauty and economic activity. Visitors can explore the sprawling rubber estates, learn about the sustainable practices employed, and witness the vibrant community life that thrives amidst the verdant landscape.

Despite their shared proximity and connection to the Khao Luang mountain range, each community offers a distinct and captivating experience. From the pristine natural beauty of Kiree Wong to the rich cultural heritage of Phrom Lok, these communities provide a window into the diverse tapestry of southern Thailand.

A Motorcycle Adventure in Southern Thailand

This passage describes a motorcycle trip through southern Thailand, starting in the town of Kirirong. The author rented a motorbike for 200 baht per day and explored the surrounding areas, including the towns of Phromlok and Krung Ching. After returning the motorbike to Kirirong, they took a shared taxi back to Nakhon Si Thammarat city.

Here's a breakdown of the translated text:

  • Location: Kirirong, near Nakhon Si Thammarat city, southern Thailand.
  • Transportation: Rented motorbike for 200 baht per day.
  • Route: Kirirong - Phromlok - Krung Ching - Kirirong.
  • Return: Shared taxi to Nakhon Si Thammarat city.
  • Overall tone: Relaxed and adventurous.

Three charming communities nestled in the Khao Luang mountain range offer a unique blend of natural beauty and authentic cultural experiences. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking scenery, savor the warmth of local hospitality, and create lasting memories.

Community 1: Keriwong

Nestled amidst mountains and rivers, this village exudes a tranquil charm that surpasses all expectations. Its reputation as a "city of streams" is well-deserved, as every road leads to a picturesque waterway cascading down from the hills.

Khiriwong is located in Kamlon Subdistrict, Lansaka District, only 30 kilometers from Nakhon Si Thammarat city. It is very convenient to travel to because there are two rows of cars from the city center that provide services from morning to evening (there are more inbound than outbound trips). The fare is only 25 baht.

The primary occupation of the local residents is fruit farming, with durian and mangosteen being the main products. Tourism has also been expanding over the past decade, experiencing a significant boom in the era of social media a few years ago. Today, the community is easily accessible to tourists.

Kee Ri Wong Bridge

The landmark of Kiriwong, if you don't come here, it's like you haven't arrived. Because this is the bridge to the village (haha...). From this point, we can clearly see how the village is nestled in the mountains and the river. There is a large stream flowing through it, no wonder the air is so good.

Note: Vehicles are prohibited from stopping on the bridge. If you wish to take photos (as everyone does), please turn right after exiting the bridge to find a spacious parking area. Park your vehicle there and walk back to the bridge for a more enjoyable and worry-free experience.

Accommodation in Homestay Communities

Despite the significant changes in Khiriwong, community tourism remains vibrant. The warm hospitality of the locals continues to shine through, offering homestays (adapted to modern times), local guides, and traditional cuisine. Simply inform them of your group size, preferred travel style, and desired activities, and they will gladly tailor an experience to your needs.

This time, I went alone and contacted the Kiriwong Homestay group through "P' View", who is the group coordinator. But I gave P' View the position of "gang leader" (haha...). I got a room at Yai Nee's house, a fan room that can accommodate several people and has a private bathroom. The price is 300 baht per person. In the evening, P' View invited me to have dinner at a nearby house, where I ate authentic southern Thai food for free. When it comes to communities, things are always easy like this.

To experience community tourism and accommodation, please contact Ms. View, the group coordinator, at 0878238474.

In addition to authentic community homestays, Kiriwong is renowned for its OTOP products, with numerous handicraft and occupational groups. These include producing mangosteen peel soap, batik fabric, tie-dye fabric, and lace accessories, among others, scattered throughout the village. All groups warmly welcome visitors to explore, shop, and experience their unique offerings.

For those without personal transportation, bicycle rentals are available for exploring the area. Alternatively, motorbike rentals offer convenience (call 0801423276, 200 baht per day, no deposit required). For larger groups, hiring a songthaew (shared taxi) provides a fun and social experience. Prices start from 800 baht and vary depending on duration and distance. Songthaews can be booked directly at the queue near Ban Kiriwong Bridge.

Taste the durian at home.

In addition to trying local southern Thai cuisine, visitors to Khao Ma Kee Ri can also enjoy fresh fruits from the orchards. From July to August, mangosteen is abundant, and durian trees are laden with fruit. Durian enthusiasts should not miss the opportunity to try the local durian variety, which has been cultivated for generations. These durians are small, with small pods and a rather mushy flesh, as they are only harvested when they fall from the tree. They are readily available in the village for 60-80 baht per kilogram, depending on the season.

The Power of Language: A Journey Through Translation

The act of translation transcends the mere conversion of words from one language to another. It is a bridge between cultures, a conduit for understanding, and a testament to the power of human communication. As a journalist translator, I am entrusted with the responsibility of navigating this intricate landscape, ensuring that the essence of the original text is faithfully conveyed while adapting it to the nuances of the target language.

My role extends beyond simply finding the closest equivalents for individual words. It involves a deep understanding of the cultural context, the intended audience, and the specific purpose of the translation. Each sentence, each phrase, becomes an opportunity to bridge the gap between two worlds, fostering connection and understanding.

In this journey, I am guided by the principles of accuracy, clarity, and cultural sensitivity. Accuracy ensures that the translated text faithfully reflects the meaning of the original, while clarity guarantees that the message is readily understood by the target audience. Cultural sensitivity, perhaps the most crucial element, requires me to be mindful of the cultural nuances and idioms that may be lost in translation, ensuring that the translated text resonates with the target audience without compromising the integrity of the original message.

The process of translation is not merely a technical exercise; it is an art form that demands creativity, empathy, and a deep appreciation for the beauty and complexity of language. As I delve into each sentence, I am constantly seeking the perfect balance between faithfulness to the original and the natural flow of the target language. This pursuit of excellence drives me to constantly refine my skills, expanding my knowledge and exploring new linguistic frontiers.

Through my translations, I strive to break down barriers and foster cross-cultural understanding. I believe that language has the power to connect us, to inspire us, and to challenge our perspectives. As a journalist translator, I am privileged to play a role in this transformative process, bridging the gap between cultures and empowering individuals to engage with the world around them in a meaningful way.

Nestled amidst the lush hills of Khao Kiri Wong, a plethora of natural swimming spots awaits. Crystal-clear streams meander through the landscape, inviting visitors to take a refreshing dip wherever their hearts desire. While locals often opt for impromptu dips in these pristine waters, those seeking a designated recreational area with scenic charm should head to Nam Hin Ta Ha. This picturesque spot boasts a suspension bridge gracefully traversing the stream, offering stunning photo opportunities. Additionally, a selection of restaurants and cafes caters to visitors' needs, while rental services for life jackets and inflatable tubes ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. The shallow, crystal-clear waters of Nam Hin Ta Ha beckon adventurers to indulge in a truly refreshing escape.

A public area with no opening or closing times. For cars, there is a parking area provided by local residents with a parking fee of 20-30 baht.

Starfall Waterfall

To reach Soi Dao Waterfall, after passing Hin Ta Hin Yai in Nan Hin, follow the villagers' orchard path uphill. Then turn left, right, right, left, left, left, and right. In reality, without a villager guide, it is impossible to find the way on your own. (Laughter...)

The Hidden Gem of Soi Dao Waterfall: A Challenging Trek to a Refreshing Oasis

Soi Dao Waterfall is a hidden gem nestled amidst the mountains, accessible only by motorbike and a subsequent hike. This single-tiered waterfall offers a refreshing escape for those willing to brave the challenging terrain.

Reaching the waterfall requires navigating unmarked paths and traversing steep slopes, making it unsuitable for casual visitors. For a safe and enjoyable experience, it is highly recommended to seek guidance from local villagers. Homestay hosts, such as "พี่วิว," can arrange for experienced guides who will ensure a smooth and safe journey.

While the trek may be demanding, the reward is well worth the effort. Soi Dao Waterfall boasts a breathtaking view and a refreshing plunge into its cool waters. The secluded location and the absence of crowds contribute to a truly immersive and rejuvenating experience.

Note: The original text mentions a "ค่าตอบแทนสินน้ำใจ," which translates to a "token of appreciation" or "tip" for the guide. This information is omitted in the translated text as it is not essential for understanding the overall message.

Waterfall of Impaled Wood

The waterfall is easily accessible by car or motorbike, and even by bicycle, although the latter may be tiring. The lower level features a pool teeming with catfish and other fish. Visitors can climb the rocks to reach the waterfall, with the difficulty varying depending on individual ability. There are several spots along the way where visitors can swim and soak in the water.

A public space with no opening or closing times, free entry, and free parking.

Aromatic Southern Curry House

Visiting the South, Must Try Southern Curry

This restaurant, located just a short distance from Khao Kiri Wong on Highway 4015 at kilometer 4, offers a delightful dining experience. The establishment boasts a clean and pleasant atmosphere, with friendly and attentive service. The highlight, of course, is the delicious southern curry, served with an unlimited supply of fresh vegetables and chili paste, a hallmark of southern cuisine.

The prices are incredibly reasonable, with two or three curries costing only 40-50 baht. Additionally, the restaurant offers special dishes like mackerel chili paste, bitter melon soup, and hot pork bone soup.

The restaurant is conveniently located on Road 4015, Km 4, on the way to Khiriwong in Lan Saka District. It is open daily, except for the 1st and 16th of each month, unless they fall on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday. The opening hours are from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, or until sold out. For inquiries, please call 0899405583.

Community 2: Brahma Loka

Promlok Subdistrict, the heart of Phrom Khiri District, lies at the foot of Khao Luang Mountain. From the village, the majestic Khao Luang Mountain stands tall and imposing. The Khlong Nok Tha, the only source of water for the Promlok Waterfall, serves as the village's lifeline. The community enjoys fresh air and a simple way of life. Villagers cultivate fruit orchards, including durian and mangosteen, and maintain a vibrant community-based tourism industry.

This location is 40 kilometers from Khao Kiriwong and 30 kilometers from Nakhon Si Thammarat city. The main road, Highway 4016, passes through the district and the entrance to the community. Public songthaews from Nakhon Si Thammarat city run to the intersection at the entrance to the community.

Homestay accommodation

While there are a few modern resorts and homestays available in Phrom Lok, we highly recommend experiencing the community-based tourism for a truly immersive experience. Contact the Phrom Lok Community Tourism Club to arrange your trip and discover the hidden gems of this charming village.

The club's homestay is a genuine homestay experience, allowing guests to live and eat with local families at an affordable price of 250 baht per person, including breakfast. Dinner can be added for an additional 100 baht. For sightseeing and other activities, guests can contact the club directly. Whether it's visiting local attractions, engaging in fun activities like making Thai desserts, cooking southern Thai food, or learning the art of batik, the club's friendly staff is ready to assist. Guests are encouraged to share their interests and the club will do its best to accommodate their requests.

To visit and stay with the community, please contact Ms. Sao, the club coordinator, at 0810819150.

This time, I stayed at a spacious house, Ja Atit Homestay. How could it not be spacious when Uncle Atit is a retired police officer from the Phrom Khiri Police Station? Uncle Atit's house is right next to the police station. It is shady, clean, and spacious. There are two or three mangosteen trees growing there, and you are welcome to pick and eat them.

Uncle Athit and his wife, Aunt Lek, live on the ground floor. The upper floor is arranged as guest rooms. There is only one bathroom in the house, so if there are many people, you may have to wait in line. The TV is downstairs. The kitchen is at the back. In short, this homestay is a true homestay experience, like staying at the house of an older relative.

I will visit Uncle Tit again next time.

Phrom Lok Waterfall

To fully experience the beauty of Phrom Lok Waterfall, a hidden gem nestled within the Khao Luang National Park, consider joining a local community tour. While independent exploration allows for scenic views and refreshing dips in the lower falls, a guided nature walk with local experts unlocks a deeper connection with the surrounding environment. These knowledgeable guides, intimately familiar with the area's secrets, will lead you on a path of discovery, revealing hidden wonders that would otherwise remain unseen.

Led by the coordinator of the Phromlok Community Tourism Club, the trail was not difficult, with just enough obstacles to keep it fun and challenging. The upper tier of the waterfall was magnificent and crystal clear, inviting a refreshing dip.

If it rains on Khao Luang, the park will be closed immediately for safety reasons. However, you can still play in the stream below before entering the park, including shops and restaurants.

Wang Pla Ngae

The "ngae" fish, also known as the "plung" fish, inhabits the same waterway as the Phrom Lok Waterfall. This area is popular among locals for swimming due to its shallow and crystal-clear water. A weir has been constructed to create a safe swimming area, and schools of "ngae" fish can be seen swimming throughout the water. The surrounding area offers cafes and restaurants, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and recreation.

This is a public space with no opening or closing times, and no entrance or parking fees.

Phromkhiri Fresh Rice Noodles

“Let's go eat some rice noodles,” my sister said as we descended from Phrom Lok Waterfall. She took me to a delicious rice noodle shop located in front of the entrance to Wang Pla Kae, called Phrom Kiree Fresh Noodles. The name itself suggests that the rice noodles are freshly made, but what was even fresher were the various vegetables served as side dishes. They were homegrown, hand-picked, and delivered straight from the garden behind the house.

A variety of flavorful dips and curries, including chili paste, fish curry, and vegetable curry, are available for selection. According to my sister's recipe, the best combination is to mix all of them together for a rich and spicy flavor. In addition to being delicious, a plate of rice noodles with curry and a generous serving of vegetables costs only 20 baht. This is truly a culinary gem of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Phromkhiri Fresh Noodle Shop is located at the entrance of Wang Pla Kaeo. Open on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 AM until late afternoon or until sold out. Phone: 0844425152

Mangosteen: The Pride of Phromlok

The sentence states that mangosteen is, well, mangosteen (obviously). However, "khat" in "mangosteen khat" doesn't refer to selection or choosing. Instead, "khat" in the local dialect means peeling or removing the skin. Therefore, "mangosteen khat" literally translates to "peeled mangosteen," which we might have seen sold on skewers in markets around Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani. It's a local delicacy that's not easy to find.

The selected mangosteen differs from the ordinary mangosteen in that the selected mangosteen is chosen when it is ripe but not yet mature, with a green peel. The peel is then peeled, which is a very difficult process because the fruit is not yet ripe, the peel sticks to the flesh, and there is latex. Once the peeling is done, if you want the flesh to look white and beautiful, you have to soak it in slightly salted water.

The selected mangosteen has a slightly astringent, slightly sour taste and a crunchy texture. It can be eaten whole. Three skewers are sold for more than 10 baht per skewer. But if you ask why they don't sell only selected mangosteen when the price is good, why wait for it to ripen? The answer is that the selection process requires expertise. The selected mangosteen cannot be stored for a long time. It must be eaten on the day it is picked, so it is not sold outside the area.

While you won't find it readily available on the streets, fear not, for you won't go hungry in Phrom Lok. To savor this local delicacy, simply inform the villagers, your homestay host, or the association in advance.

Coffee Tree House

A Charming Coffee Shop: A Haven for Coffee Lovers

Nestled along the bustling highway, this quaint little coffee shop offers a delightful respite for weary travelers and local caffeine enthusiasts alike. With its rustic charm, affordable prices, and delectable espresso, it has become a beloved destination for those seeking a moment of relaxation.

The shop's inviting ambiance is a blend of rustic wood and modern concrete, adorned with subtle vintage touches. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, making it an ideal spot to unwind and savor a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

For those who crave a caffeine fix, the shop's signature iced espresso is a must-try. At only 40 baht, it offers an exceptional value for its rich flavor and invigorating aroma.

Located conveniently on Highway 4016, just before the Phromkhiri Police Station, this coffee shop is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Whether you're a local resident or a passing traveler, a visit to this charming establishment promises a delightful experience.

Open daily from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Khao Khun Phom Temple

The name Wat Khao Khun Phanoom may not be familiar to those from afar, but if you mention it as the temple where Sek Loso made his name by firing a gun into the sky, many people would probably recognize it. (Haha...)

This temple boasts a fascinating historical narrative. It is believed to have been the residence and place of ordination as a monk of King Taksin the Great after the fall of Thonburi. According to local lore, the king did not meet his demise by sandalwood execution but instead sought refuge and took monastic vows in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Our purpose is not to debate history, but rather to explore caves. Not caves like Tham Luang Khun Nam Nang Non, but rather open caves with large openings that house Buddha statues, known as Tham Huay Tak Fa. Reaching this cave requires some effort, as it involves climbing over 200 steps, but the stunning views are well worth the climb.

Located in Ban Ko sub-district, approximately 5 kilometers from the Phrom Lok community.

Aai Kiew Waterfall

Another beautiful and easily accessible waterfall in the Khao Luang National Park, on the side of Phrom Khiri district. It resembles the Phrom Lok Waterfall. If you have already visited the Phrom Lok Waterfall, don't let your park entrance ticket go to waste. Stop by and visit this place as well.

The ideal spot for playing in the water is the lower level near the parking lot. The nature trail leads to beautiful waterfalls on the upper level, which is not a long walk.

This location is managed similarly to Phrom Lok Waterfall. If it rains on Khao Luang, the park will be closed for safety reasons. However, like Phrom Lok, there are restaurants and swimming spots below the park entrance. Even if the park is closed, you can still visit this area.

Identical to the Brahma World Waterfall, this waterfall is often referred to as its twin. Located in Ban Na Kiew, it is approximately 4 kilometers from Highway 4016. The entrance to Ban Na Kiew is 3 kilometers past the entrance to Ban Brahma World. Open daily from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (closed in case of rain on Khao Luang Mountain). Admission fees are 40 baht for adults, 20 baht for children, 30 baht for cars, and 20 baht for motorcycles. A single ticket allows access to both Na Kiew Waterfall and Brahma World Waterfall on the same day.

Community 3: Krung Ching

The sentence is already in English.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

Krung Ching is a sub-district of Nop Phi Tam district, renowned for its natural beauty and fresh air. This is due to its proximity to the Khao Luang mountain range. Additionally, the local population's primary occupations are rubber and fruit plantations, contributing to the lush greenery that refreshes the eyes.

Krung Ching offers a variety of tourist attractions, each managed by different groups, including local residents and resort or tour operators. For this trip, I focused on Ban Pi Tam, also known as the Krung Ching Hot Spring Community, which is located near the entrance to Krung Ching Waterfall.

The community is located approximately 7 kilometers from the main road. Public transportation is limited, with only two shared vans operating daily from Nakhon Si Thammarat city. These vans pass through the intersection on the main road in the early morning and afternoon or evening. Therefore, the most convenient way to visit the community is by private vehicle or through the community's tour guide service.

Hot Spring Community Tour

In Chiang Rai, there are many accommodations and resorts to choose from at various prices. However, if you prefer to stay and eat with the local community, you should contact the Hot Spring Community Enterprise Group. They serve as a tourism coordination center, handling everything from accommodation and tours to food and other necessities.

The enterprise group manages three accommodation options. The first is located in the group's building at the hot spring, with a price of 200 baht per person. Accommodation must be booked in advance. The second option is a shared room in the village, with a fan and converted from a villager's house. The cost of accommodation is 250 baht per person. The third option is an air-conditioned room with a private bathroom, also converted from a villager's house. The room costs 500 baht and can accommodate two people.

As the shared dormitory was fully booked due to a large group of tourists, I opted for an air-conditioned room. The accommodation resembled a large house divided into smaller rooms, offering comfortable and secure lodging.

In terms of tourism, the main activities here are:

This sentence describes a whitewater rafting experience that the speaker did not participate in due to lack of preparation. The cost is 250 baht per person for adults and 150 baht for children, with a minimum of 3 participants.

2. The Krueng Ching Hot Spring is a natural hot spring. The community has well-maintained facilities, including two hot spring pools, several hot shower rooms, and a shaded and clean environment. The hot spring fee is 30 baht for a full body soak and 10 baht for a foot soak. Towels and sarongs are available for rent, and there are also massage services, including Thai massage.

3. Khao Chang Loen Sea of Mist: Wake up early and take a car to see the beautiful sea of mist and stunning views.

For those without personal transportation who wish to explore the community or other tourist attractions in Nakhon Si Thammarat, consider contacting the community enterprise at the hot spring for a chartered car service. They can even pick you up from the airport. Prices are based on distance and time, but rest assured, they won't charge an exorbitant amount.

All tourism activities and accommodations.

Contact the Bua Nam Ron Community Enterprise: Ms. Pen 0844436867 or Ms. Khai Muk 0872672787.

Hot spring

This is the Krung Ching Hot Spring, which has excellent facilities. If you stay at the community enterprise, you can soak in the water all day and night at your leisure. The temperature is just right, and it's guaranteed to be a great experience.

Sea of Mist at Khao Chang Hole

“What does ‘Khao Chang Loen’ mean?” I asked Nok Khai Muk, the community coordinator, before heading up to the tourist spot. The answer is that ‘Chang’ means ‘a lot’ and ‘Loen’ refers to an area that has been cleared for farming. So, ‘Khao Chang Loen’ roughly translates to ‘a mountain with many farms and gardens.’

The agricultural area in question refers to the rubber and fruit plantations owned by local residents. The Khao Chang Lo viewpoint has only been developed for tourism for about a year. To reach the viewpoint, visitors can take a ride in a local pickup truck arranged through the Bo Nok Hot Spring Community Enterprise Group. Other groups, such as Joy Group and Jam Group, may also offer transportation depending on the situation on a given day.

The cost of a car is not expensive, 400 baht per car. The entrance fee is 50 baht per person. If we do not join other groups, we may give 100 baht, depending on the appropriateness.

Although there was not much fog when I went up, I could still see the beautiful scenery. Most importantly, the trip was comfortable, and the villagers were very friendly and took good care of us. I was truly impressed.

Rung Ching Waterfall

If not the Krathing Waterfall, what else could be the highlight of Krathing?

Let me inform you before the trip. Let me tell you loud and clear that the round trip into the forest is 7.4 kilometers. I'm not reading the numbers wrong. If you're not strong, not ready, or not up to it, you don't have to go in. (Laughter...)

Krung Ching Waterfall is another protected area of Khao Luang National Park and is one of the largest waterfalls in Thailand. To reach the waterfall, visitors must hike 7.4 kilometers roundtrip. The trail is relatively easy to follow, but during the rainy season, leeches are a common obstacle. The descent to the waterfall is steep, with a ten-story drop. Fortunately, the park has installed concrete steps to aid in the descent.

Therefore, be well-prepared for your visit. Wear appropriate clothing, bring leech socks, sturdy shoes, lunch, and water. You can usually hike in on your own, unless you require a guide. In that case, contact the tourist information center (availability may vary). Alternatively, you can hire a local guide.

The accommodation and camping facilities at the ranger station are excellent. However, if you plan to camp, it is advisable to bring your own food as the convenience store only offers a limited selection of snacks. Additionally, there is no mobile phone signal, so don't bother looking for it. (Haha...)

Entrance fee for adults is 40 baht, children 20 baht. Car fee is 30 baht, motorcycle 20 baht.
The entrance fee is only charged for walking on the nature study trail. If you are in the outer area, there is no entrance fee.
The waterfall tour route is open from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The 3.7-kilometer trail to Krang Chhing Waterfall offers stunning scenery along the way. A brisk walk takes about an hour and a half, while a leisurely stroll with photo stops can take closer to two hours.

Upon reaching the concrete stairs leading down, you'll know you've arrived at the waterfall. Just looking at the descent makes me dread the climb back up (laughs...).

The most impressive waterfall has multiple tiers, with the second tier being the most stunning and the highlight of the experience (we started from the top and walked down to the bottom). This tier, known as "Nan Fon Saen Ha," is truly magnificent and well worth the visit.

Starting the hike to the waterfall at ten o'clock would allow us to have lunch at the Nan Fon Saen Ha restaurant just in time. For this meal, my friend Nok had prepared a delicious spread of rice with fried pork, stir-fried vegetables, boiled eggs, and a bottle of water, all for just 50 baht. It was as if she wasn't even trying to make a profit! (Haha...) It was a very satisfying lunch, both in terms of the food and the atmosphere.

Some of the smaller floors can also be accessed by walking down, but be careful as the path is quite overgrown and steep.

Nestled amidst the lush landscapes of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand, lie three captivating communities that beckon travelers during the rainy season: Khao Khitchakut, Phromlok, and Krung Ching. Each community boasts a unique charm, offering a tapestry of natural wonders and warm hospitality. Khao Khitchakut, renowned for its cascading waterfalls and verdant forests, invites visitors to immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature. The community's well-established management system ensures a seamless and enjoyable experience. Phromlok, a hidden gem nestled in the mountains, offers a glimpse into the traditional way of life. The community's rich cultural heritage and stunning natural surroundings provide a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Krung Ching, a vibrant community known for its vibrant markets and friendly locals, offers a taste of authentic Thai culture. The community's commitment to sustainable tourism ensures that visitors can enjoy the beauty of the region while contributing to its preservation. Despite their differences, these three communities share a common thread: a deep respect for nature and a warm welcome for visitors. Whether seeking adventure, relaxation, or cultural immersion, these destinations offer an unforgettable experience during the rainy season in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Exploring local communities and immersing yourself in nature go hand in hand in Nakhon Si Thammarat. I've personally experienced it, and let me tell you, this itinerary is not to be missed. When you think of southern Thailand, don't just think of the beaches, because there's so much more to offer.
