Let's go cycling, picnicking, and experiencing nature near Bangkok at Bang Krachao this weekend. If you're free, I'd love to join you.
Bang Krachao Island, also known as Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park and Botanical Garden, is a unique public park that offers a glimpse into a natural forest environment. Its diverse ecosystem and lush vegetation provide a refreshing escape from the urban landscape. The park boasts numerous attractions, both within its boundaries and in the surrounding areas. Notably, its location in the Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan province, within the Bangkok Metropolitan Region, makes it easily accessible, eliminating the need for lengthy travel times.
We drove there using Google Maps, which took less than an hour. We then rented bicycles from the parking lot for only 50 baht, which allows you to cycle all day. Cycling around Bang Krachao is a popular activity for tourists. Bike rental shops are widely available, offering hourly or daily rentals. At the entrance of the park, there are shops selling drinks, snacks, and fruits. If you want to eat something or prepare some provisions, you can buy them here because there are shops inside the park, but there may be a lot of people. Essential items such as drinking water are also good to have on hand.
Exploring the Enchanting Bang Krachao Park: A Cycling Adventure
Like many others, we turned to Google to plan our trip to Bang Krachao Park. We wanted to know the best routes, photo spots, and activities available. Our primary goal was to enjoy a cycling adventure, capturing stunning photos, feeding fish, and visiting the iconic bird tower in hopes of spotting some beautiful avian creatures.
As we cycled through the park, we couldn't resist stopping at every picturesque spot to capture the moment. We were particularly impressed by the park's ability to maintain its natural woodland charm within the city. The day we visited, the crowds were minimal, and the weather was pleasant, with only a light drizzle that quickly passed.
Our recommended stops include the main pond for feeding fish, the curved wooden bridge, the ubiquitous tree tunnels, and the highlight of the park, the bird tower. This iconic structure attracts visitors who want to capture the perfect photo. For a unique shot, we suggest positioning a photographer on the top floor (third floor) while someone pretends to fall off their bike on the ground level. This creates the illusion of flying through the air on a bicycle, resulting in a truly remarkable photograph.
In addition to Bang Krachao Island, visitors can also explore the following attractions: the Incense and Herb House, where local housewives produce fragrant incense using local herbs; the Thai Fighting Fish Museum, which showcases various breeds of fighting fish and their vibrant colors; and the Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market, a riverside market offering a diverse range of goods, including unique and delicious food options, souvenirs, and gifts. Due to time constraints, we were unable to visit other locations during our one-day trip. However, Bang Krachao Island itself offers a full day's worth of exploration.
If driving is not convenient, I recommend traveling by train. Take the BTS to Bang Na Station - then take a motorcycle taxi at Bang Na intersection to Wat Bang Na Nok - take a boat from Wat Bang Na Nok Pier to Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nok Pier [approximately 10 minutes, 4 baht].
