A Breathtaking Highlight: The Rice Terraces of Ban Pa Bong Piang

The crown jewel of this season is undoubtedly the spectacular rice terraces of Ban Pa Bong Piang, nestled in the Mae Chaem district of Chiang Mai.

A place where you can be close to nature, with a view of rice fields on a high hill.

Witnessing the sea of mist in the morning, with green mountains, a hint of dew, and a clear, cool stream.

In addition to the intricate mountain ranges, there is another beautiful viewpoint in Chiang Mai province.

This is the perfect time to soak up the atmosphere, as the rainy season transitions into the cool, early winter months.

The verdant beauty of the rice fields in every corner of Ban Pa Bong Piang is interconnected, allowing for seamless exploration.

The landscape varies, with verdant rice terraces stretching as far as the eye can see.

And small huts cascaded down the terraced rice fields.

Travel Time

Tourist activities here can be divided into three periods, depending on the preferences of travelers.

  1. The rice planting season is from July to August. The rice seedlings are not yet fully grown, so the water surface of the rice fields is visible. Taking pictures will show the reflection of the sky, which is beautiful and different.
  2. The period of lush green rice fields is from September to early October. This is the most beautiful time, because the sunset here is very beautiful. If you are lucky, you will see beams of light passing through the clouds and hitting the mountains that are arranged alternately and intricately. If you come in the morning, you will find a sea of fog clinging to the mountainside, but it will be more common.
  3. The golden rice season is in early November. This is the rice harvesting season. At that time, the rice ears are golden yellow, which is another kind of beauty.

Our accommodation for tonight:

Weerasak Homestay Tel. 093 074 2686

500 Baht per night, including two meals (breakfast and dinner).

We stayed at Baan Chomna, which belongs to Mr. Weerasak's mother. Phone number: 095 876 0286.

The entrance will be lined with flowers along the walkway, offering a spacious and private environment.

Brand new condition and the large house is perfect for a fun time with a large group of friends.

The wooden house is very new, as evidenced by the color of the wood, the galvanized iron roof, and the surrounding belongings that all appear brand new.

The room has two bedrooms, each with two beds, pillows, mosquito nets, and two blankets (extra warm).

At night, you can open the windows to let in the cool breeze.

The exterior features a spacious veranda, offering a delightful spot to relax and soak in the picturesque surroundings.

From this vantage point, we have a panoramic view of the terraced rice fields on the opposite side.

In front of the house, we also have a small rice paddy.

Venture into the rice fields to capture the breathtaking sunset.

The rain suddenly poured down after only a short while. The weather is quite erratic, with rain showers coming and going.

Dinner time has arrived....

Chef V's mother will personally serve dinner to the house.

The food is simple and ordinary, like what you would find in a typical Thai household. It is served in a traditional set, making it a visually appealing and satisfying meal. Would you like to try some?

The food will be much more delicious... if the person in front of me is you. Ewwwwww!

This meal was so filling that I almost couldn't finish it. I was particularly impressed by the rice, which was incredibly soft and delicious beyond words.

After a short break to relax and unwind, the sky began to darken, signaling the time for a refreshing shower.

The bathrooms are located on the side of the house. There are two bathrooms, one with a Western-style toilet and the other with a squat toilet.

Both rooms will have a bucket of water for you to scoop and bathe in, which will be so refreshingly cold that it will make you shiver. Brrr! ~

A refreshing shower, especially with cold water, can leave you feeling invigorated and energized.

The twilight atmosphere enveloped us as we sat outside, embracing the cool breeze and admiring the view before us as darkness began to descend.

In a matter of moments, the surroundings were plunged into darkness, with only the flickering candlelight offering a glimmer of illumination.

The air will grow increasingly cooler. All around, the sounds of frogs and crickets can be heard.

Some nearby accommodations also use electric generators. The darkness and silence of this place

This allows us to fall asleep earlier than usual and fully recharge our bodies.

The night is starless, the sky is clear, the moon shines brightly, and the sound of thunder can be heard occasionally.

DAY 2: Farewell to the Pineapple Paradise "Pa Bong Piang"

A new day dawns at 6 am, with fresh air and breathtaking views of mountains, rice fields, and mist.

The intricate mountain views are truly a sight to behold.

Visiting Pa Bong Piang is like being in heaven.

The experience of waking up early and watching the sea of fog drift by is truly heartwarming.

This morning's breakfast is simple and easy on the stomach.

Steaming hot pork congee, incredibly delicious. Paired with coffee and Ovaltine, a perfect combination.

Enjoy the breathtaking view of the mist while savoring a delicious meal. The experience is simply heavenly!

From our accommodation, we can also see the local waterfall.

After finishing breakfast,

Brother Weerasak volunteered to pick us up in his pickup truck in front of the guesthouse... Our friends took us on a tour of the terraced rice fields on the other side.

The first stop is the Ban Rabeang Na area in the Bong Piang Forest.

At this point, we can enjoy a 360-degree view of the rice terraces.

We appreciate the verdant rice fields, the white mist, and the contrasting colors of the sky.

This is near the house by the rice field of Champ Chin Pa Bong Piang.

The view is absolutely stunning!

The sunlight bathes the hut at the end of the rice field, making me want to freeze this moment forever.

After a while, Mr. Weerasak dropped us off at the homestay, allowing us to explore the rice terraces at our leisure.

Let's get started!

This morning, a ray of light pierced through the clouds and fog that blanketed the area around Ban Pa Bong Piang.

Here is another beautiful image for you to enjoy.

As we walk, we hear the constant sound of flowing water from natural sources. The water flows down in stages into the rice fields.

The mere sound of the water evokes a sense of coolness, instantly invigorating the morning atmosphere.

Note: Please be cautious when walking on the terraced rice fields. The topsoil in some areas is very prone to landslides.

Hold your feet firmly, as the walkway is narrow and slippery. Be careful not to fall.

Tired of standing and taking pictures, I'll sit down and nibble on some rice stalks first. Oh, so delicious!

After a tiring walk, I decided to take a break and dangle my legs, soaking in the authentic atmosphere of the hut at the end of the rice field.

The journey is easily accessible. We chose the Mae Chaem route, entering via Wat Thung Yao.

The distance from the district to Pa Bong Piang is approximately 15 kilometers. The road is in better condition, with alternating sections of concrete.

The view is more beautiful than Doi Inthanon. Locals do not recommend driving there yourself.
