After visiting two museums, it was time for lunch. Fortunately, our military escort took us to a local restaurant called "Nong A," known for its delicious regional cuisine.

This restaurant is not your average eatery. It has been featured on the popular TV show "Khrua Khun Toi," which is a testament to its quality. The interior is charming and inviting, with exposed brick walls adorned with cute pictures. There's no need to ponder over the menu, as the staff will expertly prepare a delicious meal for you.

Another perspective on the color of wood, the location of our own table.

Stir-fried spicy pork

The food started arriving one after another. The first dish to arrive was "Kua Kling". Oh my, it must be very spicy! Yes, it was indeed very spicy, but also incredibly delicious. The aroma of the curry paste used to stir-fry the dish was intoxicating. The ingredients and the meat were perfectly combined, and the scent of turmeric filled the air.

Crispy Fried Ruby Fish

The second dish, the crispy fried red tilapia, served as a palate cleanser. The fish was fried to perfection, with a crispy exterior and a tender interior. The accompanying spicy fish sauce added a delightful kick to the dish.

Green Curry with Catfish and Salted Egg

This dish is a must-try: green curry with catfish and salted egg. The shredded catfish is chewy and tender, providing a firm and bouncy texture. The green curry broth is fragrant and sweet with a rich coconut milk flavor, balanced by the savory taste of the salted egg. This dish is especially delicious when eaten with the accompanying rice noodles.

Stir-fried glass noodles with fresh shrimp

The next dish was stir-fried glass noodles with fresh shrimp. The taste was salty and sweet, making it a perfect accompaniment to hot steamed rice.

Fried catfish cake

This dish was a hit with everyone at the table. The minced fish cakes were perfectly seasoned and cooked to a golden brown. The peanut sauce with cucumber added a refreshing and slightly sour flavor that complemented the spicy pickled vegetables. The combination of textures and flavors made for a truly enjoyable experience.

Deep-fried pork with herbs

This dish features perfectly fried pork, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. At first glance, it may appear firm, but upon taking a bite, the meat reveals its surprising softness. The accompanying fried kaffir lime leaves and dried chilies add an extra layer of flavor to the dish.

Omelette

This dish is a special order, as I requested it specifically because I was unsure of the ingredients in the stir-fried dish and feared I might not be able to eat it. However, I found this dish to be somewhat unappealing. The restaurant used whole eggs that were not beaten, resulting in a fluffy texture. I prefer omelets where the egg whites and yolks are thoroughly beaten together until light and fluffy, and then fried until golden brown.

In addition to ready-made meals, the shop also offers rare or local ingredients for cooking, such as wild mushrooms.

The food at Neng's restaurant is undeniably flavorful, with a spicy kick that lingers on the palate. Some customers even request takeaway to enjoy it again for dinner. While the spiciness may require gulping down water, the deliciousness makes it worth enduring. The intense heat is balanced by the coolness of the water, creating a satisfying culinary experience.
