Penang: A Small Island with Big Charm

Penang, a small island, boasts a charm that belies its size. For those who have visited Penang, we believe everyone will agree that it's a place they would happily return to. Despite its diverse population and cultural tapestry, Penang offers a harmonious blend that captivates visitors from afar.

Beyond experiencing the local culture, snapping cool photos with street art and exploring the historic city, what else can you do in Penang? Tick-tock, tick-tock... We're here to tell you that Penang has much more to offer! For nature-loving tourists like us, we recommend "The Habitat," a national park located on Penang Hill.

We didn't originally plan to visit Penang Hill, but we decided to come here while we were exploring the area.

However, when we took the funicular up to Penang Hill, wow, the fog was so thick we couldn't see anything!

We continued exploring the area, since taking pictures of the scenery was no longer an option. By chance, we stumbled upon a ticket booth offering access to a 360-degree panoramic viewpoint, the highest in the area. Determined to make the most of our visit, we decided to purchase tickets and ascend to the summit.

The author inquired about the ticket price from the staff and was informed that it was RM 47.15 per person for a group of three. This translates to approximately 404 Thai baht at the time. The author also mentioned that credit card payments were accepted, as they did not have enough cash.

The ticket has arrived. This is what the ticket looks like. Please keep this ticket safe and do not lose it until your trip is over. You will need to scan it.

The journey to the viewpoint, known as the "Tree Top Walk," involves a short ride in a golf cart up the hill.

Upon arrival, you will see a sign like this at the entrance. Follow the path, which will lead you through a natural garden with various plants. After a short walk, you will find a shop and café. If you need to use the restroom before your long journey, this is the place to stop.

This is a bathroom in the middle of the forest. Even though it's in the middle of nowhere, the bathroom is surprisingly clean.

The shop & café area offers refreshments and souvenirs. You can walk through without purchasing anything, as it serves as a passageway to the park and ultimately, the Tree Top Walk. Simply scan the ticket you purchased earlier, and the gate will open with a "whoosh!" One important detail: before entering the park, the staff will spray insect repellent on you, as mosquitoes are quite prevalent in the area.

As we walked in, it felt as if the place belonged only to us three friends. There was no one else around, just birds, the sound of birdsong, butterflies, ladybugs, and various insects. The air was cool and comfortable, but the walk was tiring, as if we were gently climbing a hill.

Let's follow the path deeper into the woods, enjoying the sights and sounds of nature along the way.

Although the road ahead is long, we will find the bridge if we keep walking.

The sign says to cross this bridge, but it's so high and scary!

However, we must still overcome this obstacle.

Looking down, it's all forest.

The view from here is simply amazing.

After crossing the bridge, continue walking along the path.

We will encounter a house, let's call it an Indian house.

Before heading to The Tree Walk, take a moment to capture some stylish photos at this house. Then, continue walking past the house to find the path leading up to The Tree Walk.

Finally!

Now it's time to walk up to the top. Let me tell you, it's really high.

For those who are afraid of heights, your legs may shake moderately to severely, as the walkway is a grate that allows you to see through to the ground below. When walking, you may take small steps, a little at a time. 5555

The view we get will be worth the fear we exchange for it.

Wow! Wow!

After taking photos until our hearts were content and our batteries were drained, we made our way back along the path. The exit led us past the same shop & café we had passed on our way in. We scanned our tickets and exited.

For those who have visited Penang and are tired of taking pictures with street art, and want to change to a more relaxed pace, enjoying nature, listening to birdsong, and watching butterflies fly, we think The Habitat Penang Hill is another great option. It will give you an understanding of what it feels like to walk at a high altitude with 360-degree views of Penang. Hehe.
