Koh Chang: Easier to Reach Than You Think

Koh Chang: Getting There by Car

From Bangkok, the journey to Koh Chang takes approximately 4-5 hours by car. Here are the available routes:

  • Route 1: Via Bang Na - Trat (Highway 3) or the Bang Na - Bang Pakong elevated highway, followed by Highway 344 to Klaeng District, then Highway 3 through Chanthaburi to Trat City. This route covers approximately 315 kilometers.
  • Route 2: Along Highway 3, passing Chonburi, Pattaya, Sattahip, Rayong, and Klaeng District, then Highway 3 through Chanthaburi to Trat City. This route covers approximately 390 kilometers. Alternatively, you can take Highway 36 from Pattaya through Rayong and Klaeng District, covering a distance of 355 kilometers.
  • Route 3: From the Motorway (starting at kilometer 0 at the intersection of Srinakarin Road and Ramkhamhaeng Road), take the Ban Bueng - Klaeng - Chanthaburi - Trat route (Highway 7, Bangkok - Chonburi Expressway), which connects to Rama IX - Srinakarin Road. Continue straight until you reach Highway 344 (Ban Bueng - Klaeng), then proceed to Klaeng District and continue on Highway 3 through Khlung District, Chanthaburi Province, across the Welu Bridge, and through Khao Saming District to Trat City. This route covers approximately 315 kilometers.
  • Route 4: Alternatively, you can take a shortcut directly to the ferry pier without passing through Trat City, saving approximately 30 minutes of travel time. After passing Chanthaburi Province and approaching Trat City, you will cross the Welu River Bridge, which marks the boundary between Chanthaburi and Trat provinces. Upon descending the bridge, you will find a tourist welcome point (resembling two large ships on either side of the road, with a giant mushroom-like roof in the center). Approximately 300 meters from this point, you will encounter the Saen Tung traffic light intersection. After passing this intersection, stay in the right lane and continue for another 300 meters. You will find a right turn leading to the ferry pier. This route is popular, and you will find signs guiding you to the pier throughout the journey. This route is also the same one leading to Trat Airport.
