Phetchabun, a province often referred to as the "Switzerland of Thailand," particularly the Khao Kho district, boasts pleasant weather almost year-round. As someone who has personally experienced running in this province during the Iron Horse event, ascending Khao Phra Tamnak (an undeniably strenuous feat), I have become a regular visitor, returning annually or biannually depending on my schedule.
Phuket is undoubtedly brimming with tourist attractions and countless delicious restaurants. However, there is one establishment that I must emphasize as an absolute "must-try" during your visit or run in the area. This newly opened restaurant, established in 2018, has left such a profound impression on me that I felt compelled to dedicate a separate review solely to it. My dining experience was truly remarkable, and I cannot resist wholeheartedly recommending "GreenField Farm & Bistro."
What are the highlights of this restaurant, and what makes it so impressive?
Atmosphere
As mentioned earlier, I frequently visit this area and have tried all the highly-rated restaurants on Khao Kho. However, I have never explored the dining options located at the base of the mountain before ascending to Khao Kho or Phu Thap Boek. This particular restaurant caught my attention just before I was about to turn into the PTT gas station to refuel before heading up the mountain.
The shop is located before the city center and next to a PTT gas station. If you want to go, you can click on this link for directions: https://goo.gl/maps/AJ5dHLyDEMB2.
The Restaurant: A Modern Gem Amidst Mountains and Farms
The restaurant boasts a striking modern design, featuring a prominent triangular facade in pristine white. Nestled amidst picturesque mountains and a flourishing vegetable farm, the establishment offers a unique dining experience. Notably, all vegetable dishes served are sourced directly from the farm, ensuring the freshest and most flavorful ingredients.
Let's walk into the store.
Walk past the back of the shop to find the farm where the shop grows its vegetables. There are many different types of vegetables.
Fresh, organic vegetables
The beautiful leaves, with slight bite marks, indicate that the plant is truly free of pesticides.
He walked to the front again and stopped by the bathroom before entering the store (what a show-off).
Upon entering the shop, one is greeted by a high ceiling, creating a spacious and airy atmosphere. The pleasant music playing adds to the overall ambiance.
Cool Photo Angles
The melon looks delicious.
Taste and quantity of food
The price, quantity, and taste are all at the right level. Everything is just right. At first, I looked at the pictures of the food on the menu and thought it wouldn't be much because the plates looked small. But when it actually came, wow!! It was very impressive. It was full of both quantity and quality of ingredients, especially the fresh vegetables from the farm, which is the highlight of the restaurant. They were not stingy at all, making every dish full of flavor. Or to put it simply, it was very flavorful.
Must-try dishes
The Signature Salad: A Must-Try
The signature dish at this restaurant is the shrimp and almond salad with tamarind dressing. The salad features fresh vegetables from the restaurant's own farm, topped with a unique dressing made with a local specialty: tamarind. This sweet and tangy tamarind sauce, combined with honey, creates a balanced flavor that is not overly sweet and low in fat. The highlight of the dish is the large, succulent shrimp coated in crunchy almonds, offering a satisfying bite. This salad is truly a must-try, leaving you wanting more.

Another recommended menu item is the -BBQ Pork Ribs-, which is served as a whole rack. When cutting, aim for the meaty part and cut it off. The restaurant will provide gloves, and then you can use your hands and mouth to play, biting and gnawing. Or, if some people are not comfortable cutting it themselves, they can ask the restaurant to cut it into pieces. However, they will not cut the meat into pieces, because the fun of eating ribs is in the cutting, biting, and gnawing.

Two other dishes I ordered were -salmon with fish roe sauce-, lovingly wrapped in sliced kale and asparagus, and -tofu steak-, with firm, bouncy tofu drizzled in Japanese sauce. They were both delicious and disappeared in no time.

Moving on to desserts and beverages, the must-try drink on the menu is the Nitro Cold Brew coffee. Its smooth, velvety foam is infused with the fragrant aroma of rosemary, making it a truly world-class experience.

For those with a sweet tooth, there are options too. We tried two: the Sweet Potato Milk, a purple sweet potato latte, and the Unicorn Frappe, which has a mix of sweet and sour flavors. If you don't like it too sweet, you can ask for less sugar.
Unicorn Frappe
For dessert, we only ordered one item: strawberry cheesecake. It was incredibly delicious, and only cost 95 baht (if I remember correctly). I even told the owner that they could easily charge 120 baht for it and it would still be worth the price.

Another must-try dessert is the signature **Japanese cheesecake**. We bought it to enjoy at our accommodation, as it would have been too much to eat at the restaurant. But we were greedy and wanted to try it anyway! It was incredibly delicious, with a very soft and delicate texture that wasn't crumbly. Highly recommended!

According to Patter, one of the restaurant's partners, the prices are set to be friendly to all customers, making it affordable for both tourists and locals. Tourists often remark that the prices are surprisingly low. Indeed, the total bill for all the food pictured came to less than 1,000 baht, even though I initially expected it to be more.
The order was enough to feed two people, and we were almost too full to walk. On the way back, my wife was so impressed that she went back to try two more dishes. On our first visit, we saw a table next to us order a dish that we wanted to try, so we did. It was a crispy chicken stir-fried with basil and served with rice. The chicken was coated in almonds.

And the -lemon chicken- seems to be ground chicken that has been deep-fried and drizzled with a lemon vinaigrette. Delicious again.

Blueberry Soda
To conclude, we had another round of shrimp salad with almond and tamarind sauce (highly recommended!). To finish, we had a blueberry soda to cleanse our palates before heading back to Bangkok. I told Patter that I would definitely come back for another meal next time I'm in Phetchabun.
The fundamental requirement for opening a restaurant is the deliciousness of the food. This restaurant easily passes that test.
Services
The owner's intention, as described in the menu, was to create a green space of over 5 rai and to fill the restaurant with a warm atmosphere (I didn't come up with this myself, I read it from the menu page introducing the restaurant, hehe). The service was good, the staff were attentive, and Mr. Patter walked around asking customers at each table periodically. For those who want to try it out, especially on Saturdays, Sundays, or long holidays, it is recommended to book a table in advance.
