Today's Review: A Look at a Budget-Friendly Hotel Buffet in the Heart of Bangkok
This review takes you on a culinary journey to a hotel buffet in the heart of Bangkok, where you can indulge in a delicious spread for under 300 baht per person. Let's explore the visual appeal and taste of this affordable dining experience.
🥕
The buffet we will conquer today is the lunch buffet at ibis Sathorn, located in Sathorn Soi 1 or Ngamduplee Soi, Rama 4. Just open Google Maps and you won't get lost, haha. Alternatively, you can take the MRT to Lumphini Station and walk into the soi.
The IBIS Sathorn hotel offers a lunch buffet for under 300 baht per person. The spacious dining room features a variety of seating options, including chairs and sofas. The buffet line is prominently displayed in one corner of the room.
The first dish on the line is "Steamed rice, fried rice, and stir-fried noodles with coconut milk." The fried rice has a neutral flavor to cater to international customers, but Thai customers can add chili fish sauce for a more local taste. The side dishes are varied and change daily.
The "fried fish mieng" I had on my visit was well-balanced in flavor, with a slight spiciness followed by a pleasant sour and salty combination. The "chicken stir-fried with cashew nuts" was, in my opinion, unremarkable and readily available at most restaurants, lacking any distinctive qualities.
The next course was a selection of "yums," a type of Thai salad. The overall flavor was a bit mild, which is understandable given the restaurant's international clientele. The following dish was "stir-fried noodles with coconut milk, or pink noodles." I must confess that I did not try this dish, so I cannot comment on its flavor.

Next, there were two pots of soup: tomato soup and onion soup. In the picture, the soup with tomatoes is onion soup, and the smooth soup is tomato soup. Don't be confused! The smooth tomato soup had a very smooth texture and a delicious flavor that matched the soup's consistency. However, if you don't like tomatoes, you might find it a bit off-putting.
Italian Food Line
The Italian food line offered a variety of dishes, including pizza, spaghetti, chicken wings with sauce, and fried dumplings (a curious addition). The pizza had a thin, crispy crust but was unfortunately served lukewarm, which detracted from its flavor. The chicken wings had a strong flavor, but we found them to be slightly underwhelming. However, the "Spaghetti with Drunken Chicken" was absolutely outstanding. Its bold and spicy flavors were truly impressive and redeemed the entire Italian food line. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we ordered two servings.

Following Italian cuisine, Japanese food was next, with nothing particularly remarkable. It consisted of sushi with various toppings, and the taste was acceptable.
Finally, there are snacks and ice cream. Snacks include a variety of Thai desserts, shaved ice, lod chong, and grass jelly in syrup. The highlight is the ice cream, which comes in two flavors: chocolate and lemon sorbet. The chocolate is rich and dark, while the lemon sorbet is tart, sweet, and refreshing, perfect for cooling down in the afternoon heat.
Chef
👨🏼🍳 For the buffet, the price is 299 baht per person, which is a net price. Personally, I would rate it 8/10 because it is good value for money. For 300 baht, you can eat a wide variety of food. Although some dishes may not be to everyone's taste, and some may be bland, the dishes that are good are really good. I would recommend it for people on a budget who want to try a variety of food.
Good job!
