Let's start ordering food. Our staff is ready to serve you.

Once seated, the culinary extravaganza began with the ordering of food. The menu at Oam Thong Restaurant features mainly Thai dishes, some of which are hard to find elsewhere, such as "Vietnamese spring rolls". When asked if they served anything other than Thai food, the young servers informed us that they also offered a variety of steaks and Western dishes.

Our own table.

"Golden Savings Tradition"

The first dish to arrive was the restaurant's signature dish, a must-try for any visitor. This was the "Khao Niao Bua Loi Aom Thong," a traditional Vietnamese crepe made according to the original recipe of the owner's mother.

A Glimpse Inside "Khanom Beuang Om Thong"

The crispy, fragrant dough offers a salty and savory flavor that contrasts beautifully with the aromatic shrimp filling, generously seasoned with spices. Paired with the sweet, sour, and savory dipping sauce, each bite delivers a symphony of flavors: tangy, sweet, savory, salty, and crunchy. This dish is truly addictive!

Green Curry Beef Roti

The next dish was a green curry beef roti, which emitted a fragrant aroma of curry spices even before the plate was visible. The roti was perfectly fried, with a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior that did not absorb any excess oil. It was served with a green curry that had a savory, creamy flavor with a hint of sweetness from the rich coconut milk, balanced by the perfect amount of spice from the curry paste. The tender beef pieces were bite-sized, fresh, and not chewy, making this dish a delightful and enjoyable culinary experience.

Rice noodles with fermented fish and pickled mustard greens

This dish is a rare find, offering a complete culinary experience. The soft and chewy rice noodles are generously sprinkled with fragrant dried shrimp, filling the mouth with a delightful aroma. The accompanying chopped pineapple adds a refreshing touch of sweet and sour, while the chewy fish cake balls, known as "jaeng lon," provide a nostalgic taste of tradition.

Spicy winged bean salad

This plate of stir-fried winged beans emphasizes "extreme freshness" in both its ingredients and curry paste. The flavor profile is predominantly salty, followed by sweetness and a balanced spiciness from the curry paste. As you chew, you can almost hear the satisfying crunch of the winged beans. The dish is garnished with fried shallots and fresh coconut milk, and served with boiled eggs to temper the intensity of the flavors.

Sour Curry with Cha-om and Shrimp

This dish is a delight to savor, with its perfectly balanced broth that tantalizes the taste buds. The broth's acidity takes the lead, followed by a harmonious blend of sweetness and saltiness. The freshness of the fish, ground with the aromatic curry paste, eliminates any fishy odor. The dish is further enhanced by the addition of succulent, bouncy prawns and crispy, egg-coated acacia shoots that absorb the flavorful broth perfectly.

Large Fried Shrimp with Garlic

Deep-Fried Garlic Shrimp: A Culinary Delight

This dish evokes memories of steaming hot rice, eagerly awaiting the moment to be coated in the succulent shrimp oil and crispy garlic bits left behind from the frying process. The perfectly sized shrimp, neither too small nor too large, ensures optimal absorption of the fragrant garlic sauce, creating an aromatic explosion in every bite. A sprinkle of shredded shrimp meat and a dash of fish sauce complete the symphony of flavors, leaving an unforgettable culinary experience.

Stir-fried Kale with Crispy Pork

This dish features fresh, crisp kale. The crispy pork was slightly overcooked, but the flavorful sauce compensated well, permeating the meat. It's a great way to cool down your palate after spicy dishes.

All ordered food

Let's take a look at the drinks. In this hot weather, even if you're sitting in an air-conditioned room, nothing beats a smoothie. And the fruits that seem to be the most refreshing are strawberries, mangoes, and the shop's special recommendation, melon smoothies.

The strawberry smoothie offers a refreshing burst of tartness followed by sweetness, accompanied by the vibrant aroma of fresh strawberries. The mango smoothie, initially met with skepticism, proved to be a delightful surprise. The freshly blended mango pulp delivers a predominantly sweet flavor with a hint of tartness for a refreshing touch, complemented by the unique fragrance of the Nam Dok Mai mango variety. The melon smoothie provides a delightful coolness, effectively quenching thirst and offering a refreshing escape from the heat.

Sticky Rice with Coconut Milk

A Refreshing Dessert: Sticky Rice with Coconut Cream and Melon

This week's featured dessert is a rare treat: sticky rice with coconut cream. Freshly harvested glutinous rice is roasted until it pops and becomes crispy. Crushed ice is then added, followed by a generous drizzle of fragrant coconut cream, creating a delightful blend of traditional Thai flavors and aromas. The dish is served with fresh melon slices on the side, offering a refreshing contrast and a perfect way to quench your thirst on a hot day. The melon, a carefully selected green variety, is also available for purchase separately, both to take home and to enjoy at the restaurant. It serves as a delightful way to end your meal.

Green-fleshed melon

We concluded this delightful meal with a sense of appreciation for the person who brought us here, the person who recommended it, and the person who joined us at the table. This restaurant will undoubtedly be added to our list of establishments that serve authentic Thai cuisine with genuine, traditional flavors.
