Weekend Getaway: Relaxing by the Sea in Pattaya

This weekend, it's time to escape the city and head to the beach! Our destination: Pattaya, a seaside haven just a short drive from Bangkok. With its convenient location and abundance of attractions, Pattaya offers the perfect escape for a quick and relaxing getaway.

From stunning beaches to vibrant nightlife, Pattaya has something for everyone. This trip, however, is all about unwinding and enjoying the simple pleasures. We'll be focusing on breathtaking views, romantic settings, and activities that soothe the mind and body.

Here's a glimpse of our itinerary:

  • D at Sea Hotel

- The Glass House

  • Four Regions Floating Market

Traveling from Bangkok to Pattaya

The journey from Bangkok to Pattaya, a distance of approximately 150 kilometers, can be completed in various ways. Options include buses, vans, taxis, and private cars, with a travel time of around 2 hours.

For this trip, we opted for a daily car rental service from Avis for a hassle-free travel experience without worrying about connecting transportation. If you are in Bangkok, you can choose to pick up your car at 3 locations: Don Mueang Airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport, and the office on Sathorn Soi 1 (Bangkok Downtown). As it was most convenient for us to take the bus to Don Mueang Airport, we scheduled the car pick-up there. The Avis counter is located on the 1st floor of Building 2, on the domestic arrivals side. It is recommended to make a reservation in advance through the website www.avisthailand.com or by calling the Call Center 02-251-1131-2, 02-255-5300-4 for a faster process.

In the afternoon, we arrived in Pattaya and checked in at D at Sea. This property consists of four buildings that have been renovated from condominiums. The buildings are in good condition and feature a simple and elegant design, typical of condominiums.

Most of the units are studio rooms, which are divided into separate areas for the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. This makes them perfect for a relaxing stay. What's more, they are conveniently located near the sea. Just a short walk of 100-200 meters across the street, and you'll be on the beach and in the water of Jomtien Beach.

The building we stayed in has a fitness center and a swimming pool on the top floor. The view of the sea is breathtaking, offering a panoramic vista of the beach and the vast ocean. Despite the hot sun during the day, a constant breeze provides a refreshing respite. The location boasts stunning views, making it an ideal spot to spend the day swimming and admiring the seascape.

In the evening, we had dinner at a beachfront restaurant called The Glass House. The restaurant and cafe are located right on the beach and offer stunning views. The decor is opulent and romantic, making it the perfect spot for a special occasion. Every corner of the restaurant provides opportunities for beautiful photos.

On rainy days, the restaurant will remain open as usual. However, outdoor seating in the uncovered patio area may not be available. It is recommended to check availability before visiting, as the outdoor area offers a relaxing atmosphere and stunning views.

The panoramic ocean view is a sight to behold, with twinkling green lights in the distance marking the squid fishing boats. These lights are a reassuring sign, indicating a clear night ahead, as local fishermen possess an uncanny ability to predict the weather.

The cuisine is diverse, offering a wide range of savory, sweet, and snack options. For example, the menu includes:

**
**

Grilled Fish with Mieng Leaves features a perfectly-sized sea bass served with fresh vegetables and a flavorful dipping sauce. Ideal for 2-4 people, this dish is best enjoyed with a group as its generous portion size can easily satisfy multiple appetites. Despite its deliciousness, the sheer abundance of the dish may leave even two diners struggling to finish it after sampling other menu items.

Steamed Seafood in Coconut This flavorful steamed seafood dish features a generous portion of shrimp, shellfish, crab, and fish, all nestled within a tender young coconut.

Pineapple Fried Rice A flavorful fried rice dish with shrimp and squid, topped with cashew nuts.

Tom Yum Goong with Rich Coconut Milk: This dish features succulent river prawns in a flavorful, aromatic broth. The rich coconut milk adds a creamy texture, while the generous use of spices creates a complex and spicy flavor profile.

Crispy Roti Thin, crispy roti dough sprinkled with a light dusting of icing sugar, served with a sweet, low-fat milk dip. This dish is truly delicious.

Watermelon Dream

Cayenne orange

The restaurant's stunning decor extends to every corner, providing endless photo opportunities. The ambiance outside is equally impressive, especially in the evenings when countless orange lights illuminate the space, creating an unparalleled romantic atmosphere. Words cannot adequately describe the beauty and romance; experiencing it firsthand is the only way to truly appreciate it.

Checking out of the hotel around noon, the rain began to fall. However, I was determined to visit the Four Regions Floating Market, so I wasn't afraid of the rain at all. Fortunately, it wasn't too heavy. Let's go! From the hotel, I walked out through Soi Na Jomtien 4 and crossed the road to Soi Na Jomtien 1. Then I turned left and continued straight on the road alongside the railway tracks. In no time at all, I reached the entrance to the Four Regions Floating Market.

Remember the direction and landmarks when entering the market. It's best to take a picture of the entrance, as it's easy to get lost. There are many shops to explore and shop in, with bridges connecting different islands representing different regions of Thailand. This makes it easy to navigate, but it can be confusing for first-time visitors.

Taking a walk on a day with a light drizzle is quite relaxing. The cool air and the unique atmosphere create a different kind of enjoyment.

Another dish that seems worth trying is boat noodles. There are many boat vendors selling them, and the seating is on the floor with mats and bamboo benches as tables, offering a casual, rustic dining experience.

There is also a wide variety of food, drinks, and shopping options available for visitors to enjoy.
