Camping by the River Kwai Yai for 2 days and 1 night at Erawan National Park.
Tired of working on weekends but having nothing to do on your days off? All you do is watch movies, listen to music, and stay in your tiny, cramped room. As someone who loves to travel, this is incredibly boring. So, without further ado, let's get to the point. On January 21-22, 2017, I went on a solo trip to Erawan Waterfall. Before I went, I did a lot of research on where to go. I considered the beach, like Koh Lan, which is nearby, but I've been to the beach so many times. I thought a change to a waterfall might be nice. So, I opened Google and searched for interesting places to visit. I kept searching until I came across a Pantip post about a trip to Erawan Waterfall. As soon as I saw it, I was hooked. The water was so clear and beautiful. My desire to travel shot through my brain like a bolt of lightning.
After reading other people's posts about Erawan Waterfall, I did some research on transportation, accommodation, and the best time to visit. I also checked the current condition of the waterfall on Instagram to see if there was enough water and if it was raining, as people who visit often post updates. I decided to go to Erawan Waterfall because it's not too far from Bangkok and the journey is relatively easy. I'll stop talking now before you get bored, and let's just look at the pictures of my trip. Oh, I forgot to mention that I took all of these pictures myself. If you're traveling alone, you'll probably use the same method of taking pictures: setting up a camera. Let's see how amazing Erawan Waterfall is! :)
Erawan Waterfall, located in the Sri Sawat district of Kanchanaburi province, is one of Thailand's most stunning waterfalls. The seven-tiered waterfall features a series of cascading pools and lush vegetation, offering a picturesque escape into nature. While the ascent and descent can be challenging at times, the breathtaking views and refreshing waters make the effort worthwhile.
After deciding to go on the trip, I invited my friends to join me, but they all declined. I was disappointed that no one wanted to go with me. My foreign friends said they would think about it, but they took so long that I didn't want to wait anymore. If they don't want to go, that's fine. I can go alone and have fun. I'm not afraid of traveling alone. It's easy! 555+
This is a rental tent within the park, located by the Khwae Yai River. The atmosphere is truly indescribable.
The serene evening atmosphere at the campsite of the park, with the majestic River Kwai flowing nearby, is an unforgettable experience.
This two-person tent can comfortably accommodate up to four people, offering a scenic view from the front.
Erawan Waterfall is located in Erawan National Park. There are houses, rooms, and tents for rent. As soon as I arrived, I immediately went to inquire about renting a tent from the park. Fortunately, there were 3 tents left, one for me and two for the Mexican girls. But where did the Mexican girls suddenly appear from? 555+ Let me tell you briefly. I met the Mexican girls at the Southern Bus Terminal. We went to buy tickets on the upper floor together, but the seller was not there and only left a message saying "Go buy tickets at platform 10". Will foreigners know that, sir? Seller! I saw the girls standing there confused, so I had to use my poor English skills to tell them, "Are you going to Kanchanaburi? Then follow me. We need to buy tickets at platform 10." Then we traveled from Bangkok to Erawan Waterfall together and got tents near each other. It's a pity I forgot to take a picture with the girls. That's enough, it's getting long. 555+
This is the full atmosphere in front of my tent. The weather is great. Having a hot pot and barbecue here is definitely amazing. My tent costs 150 baht. The park has sleeping equipment for rent, so you don't have to worry about blankets or pillows.
The atmosphere is truly heartwarming. If only I had friends here, we would be having a barbecue and enjoying delicious snacks.
Let's take a look around the camping area first, shall we? ;)
The first day we arrived at Erawan Waterfall, it was quite late, so we didn't have time to swim. So, let's fast forward to the next morning. We woke up early at 6:30 am, quickly took care of our personal needs, and headed to the waterfall. At that time, there were very few people. The water was still pristine and untouched. The waterfall in the morning was incredibly beautiful, with an emerald green color. We were so excited and happy that we couldn't wait to set up our cameras and start posing for pictures. This was just the beginning.
I took a lot of photos just with the wooden pole across the stream. It's beautiful, isn't it? 555+
This waterfall, named "Wang Matcha," is incredibly beautiful. The water is crystal clear, and I really want to jump in and swim. However, it's too early in the morning, and the water is freezing! So, I'll just take some photos for now.
This pose imitates a foreign tourist I follow on IG. 555+ Set up the camera and then quickly run to pose. 555
I've spent a considerable amount of time on this floor, captivated by its beauty. It's time to take off my shirt and show off my belly. Haha! Let me take a quick picture before I jump into the water. The water is so refreshing!
The sight of those fish swimming in the water really makes me want to join them. Nature truly creates beautiful things for us humans to admire. But wait, I see a selfie stick. That's a tripod. Oh well, I'm too lazy to take it off, so I'll just take a selfie with it. Hahahaha.
I walked around the waterfall for a long time, looking for a beautiful angle until I found this one. There were so many fish swimming around! I wanted to feed them, but it was forbidden, so I had to follow the rules. P.S. I'm a rule-follower. 5555+ I really like this picture. I'm praising myself.
However, I haven't gone swimming yet. I want to take some pictures of the emerald blue waterfall before it gets crowded. If it gets crowded, the waterfall won't be as clear and will become cloudy like the picture below. The small and large fish swim around without any fear of people. Haha. :)
Do the fish swim freely, living up to the name of the waterfall, "Wung Matchcha"?
Let's go to another floor. This picture was taken at the third level of the waterfall. I don't remember the name of the level. I like the second and third levels the most because the water is deep, clear, and beautiful. Most people play on the second level because it's the closest.
Today, I only wandered around these two floors, as I had already visited the other floors on the first day, but I wasn't very impressed. When I arrived early in the morning, there were very few people, so the water was as clear as emerald green. It was really tempting to go for a swim.
This morning, there were only a few people at the waterfall, around 7-10. Most of them were staying in the park. In the morning, there were no park rangers guarding the entrance. Usually, there are rangers on duty. Oh, when entering the park, you have to pay a deposit for the water bottles you bring into the waterfall. It's 20 baht per bottle. If you want your money back, you have to return the water bottles to the park rangers.
Let's go play in the water, but wait, it's 8 am and the water is too cold. What should we do? Let's take some pictures first.
However, we played in the water until we were freezing cold. 5555+
This photograph was taken on the first day. The water is not very clear.
This level, the fourth level, is very crowded because it has a natural slide, a rock slide. Notice it on the left side. You will also see that there are many foreign tourists at the waterfall here.
As mentioned, the water may not be as clear in the afternoon due to the higher number of people, but it is still suitable for swimming.
A fallen tree lies across the stream. This is the same location as the picture above, but the water is not as clear.
The path to the waterfall is not too far, about a 5-minute walk. This can be considered a warm-up before descending.
Swim and hike to the 7th tier of the waterfall.
The crystal-clear water and beautiful fish were breathtaking, but the reality behind this photo is quite painful. After taking the photo with my mouth, I stood up, but I ended up leaning back so much that I couldn't stand up straight again.
In the end, I fell into the water with my phone, tripod, and all my belongings. The tripod sank to the bottom, and my shoes floated away. I had to quickly get out of the water, put my things down, and dive back in to retrieve the tripod. Then I swam to get my shoes. It was like they say, "Death at the end." 555+
After dropping my phone in the water, I quickly wiped it dry and shook it out. I then returned to my tent to pack up and prepare to leave. However, my phone wouldn't charge. With only 30% battery remaining, I panicked. I quickly searched the internet and found a suggestion to submerge the phone in rice. I rushed to a nearby restaurant to buy some rice, turned off my phone, and submerged it in the rice. I kept it there from the waterfall all the way back to Bangkok. It was really frustrating to have this happen at the end of my trip. Haha.
Conclusion and Interesting Tidbits
This concludes our travelogue with a picture of the second tier of Wang Matcha waterfall. We will definitely return to Erawan Waterfall during the rainy season. See you on our next trip! :)
・The journey is not complicated.
Southern Bus Terminal, Taling Chan 100 baht > Kanchanaburi Bus Terminal 50 baht > Erawan Waterfall
The park offers tents for rent along the banks of the Kwai Yai River in various sizes. My tent was a two-person tent, priced at 150 baht (affordable).
The park has a variety of restaurants to choose from.
- It is recommended to visit on weekdays, as it gets extremely crowded on Saturdays and Sundays.
The waterfall has a total of 7 levels, and the distance to the 7th level is about 3 kilometers. (Once you go, you must go all the way to the 7th level.)
The best time to visit the waterfall is early in the morning, between 7 AM and 9 AM. During this time, there are fewer crowds and the water is a stunning emerald green.
Have a wonderful trip! ^_^
