Who says Isan is all about forests and mountains... not true, you know.
Traveling often leads us to encounter unexpected things.
A few days ago, we went on a trip to Buriram province.
which is the way out to the east
Wondering what Buriram has to offer? Let's explore the sights and attractions this province has in store.
How can you go all the way there and only watch football?
But we stumbled upon Buriram Sea
Hey!! Does Buriram have a sea?
Hey!! Does Isan have a sea?
Sea of fog... or not?
However, upon further investigation, it turns out that the "sea" in question is actually a reservoir. It is the Lam Nang Rong Dam in the Noen Din Daeng district.
We also included a trip to the Buriram Sea in our travel plans.
... and is anyone else curious like us about how the dam will become a sea ...
So what are you waiting for... If you're ready, let's go play in the water at the "Isan Sea".
Travel
The Isan Sea, Buriram Sea, or officially known as the Lam Nang Rong Dam, is located in Lam Nang Rong Subdistrict, Non Din Daeng District, Buriram Province.
There are several ways to get there.
- By plane, you can fly to Buriram Airport and then drive to Lam Nang Rong Dam, which takes about 2 hours.
- By private car, drive along the Prachin Buri - Sa Kaeo route, which takes about 4 hours.
- By bus, there are vans from Victory Monument to Non Din Daeng district every hour. Get off at the market in front and then take a taxi.
***For us, if we don't plan to visit the city, driving a private car is the most convenient.****
***But if you want to visit the city, take a plane to the city.
Renting a car allows for more flexibility and time savings compared to other options.
For this trip, we wanted to explore the city center as well, so we chose to fly into the city and drive out to relax outside the city.
We have 2 days and 1 night to visit the Lam Nang Rong Dam and nearby attractions.
Let's see how much fun and excitement we'll have on our 2-day, 1-night trip.
And our travel plan is as follows:
Embark on a journey
We arrived at the airport around 1:30 pm, took care of renting a car, and grabbed a quick bite to eat before heading to Non Din Daeng.
After that, I drove straight ahead, but it was almost evening by the time I arrived.
We originally planned to visit the Lam Nang Rong Dam, but we haven't made any other plans yet, such as where to eat or where to stay.
We plan to go without a plan, let's see what happens.
Want to find everything in front of us ... It might make us more excited and have more fun.
Drive until you reach the entrance, which is marked by a fairly large sign. It is located opposite the police station, just a short distance after passing the Non Din Daeng market.
And it's really exciting. We arrived so late because we were busy with the car rental (we didn't prepare anything, we just walked in).
Upon arrival, the first thing we should do is find accommodation. We hope to find accommodation by the dam with beautiful views.
It's like the southern area, but it turns out there are none at all. There are only the dam's welfare houses and
Most of them are located on the outskirts, so we asked the locals for recommendations on affordable and comfortable accommodations. We received a variety of responses.
Both near the dam and the market area, but we stumbled upon a place about 8 kilometers away.
which is relatively quiet and very natural. We contacted the accommodation to make sure we had a place to stay tonight.
Then we rushed out to visit the dam again because the first time we barely got out of the car.
Evening at Lam Nang Rong Dam
Back again, just before sunset.
The orange light began to shine on the ridge of the dam.
We walked around and couldn't help but think, "This is a dam, how can it be the sea?"
Strolling and observing the way of life in the evening, going wherever the path leads.
Some people come to sit and play, sit and chat.
Some come as families, bringing their children to ride bicycles and exercise.
Every life still goes on simply, but everyone seems so happy.
Smiles, laughter, there are many.
And one thing we always get from traveling is new friends.
Maybe it's because we talk too much.
This allows us to make friends and often get good information from local people.
And I found out that on the other side of the dam there is a delicious and cheap restaurant.
Before we go and enjoy the delicious food, let's chill here for a while. Sit, walk around, and create some pictures to look at for fun.
When I think of this place... Some places, some things, may not be very special, not very beautiful, not very luxurious.
But it makes us remember and understand more deeply.
Restaurant
After the sun has set,
Nui tried driving along the route that our new friend had told us about, to a delicious and affordable restaurant.
On the other side of the dam, the atmosphere is relatively quiet and there are fewer people.
This area is under the management of the Fisheries Administration Unit.
The entrance is a red dirt road. Not far in, you will find several restaurants.
But what we can feel from this side is the sea. Hey, this is the sea. It's like the sea.
The excitement is building... because it's so cool, the view is beautiful, the wind is cool and refreshing
We turned the car into the shop that we saw from the roadside. The atmosphere was great, with a real beach vibe.
But it turned out the shop was closed... a little sad face. The owner said with a smile, come back tomorrow, okay?
But our efforts are not over yet. This shop is closed. Let's try another shop. Maybe there's still some left.
A little further on, we came across Khun Ya Phochana's restaurant. We saw lights and cars parked there.
Thinking to myself... I finally got to eat...
Let's soak in the atmosphere for one more photo.
The atmosphere is similar to the first shop, with the fences next to each other.
A younger sibling came to pick up the order.
With greetings.... Today I was lucky to eat. It's usually closed.
Oh... what time do you usually close? We're in a hurry to ask.
It usually closes at 7 pm, but today there is a group of employees having a party, so they are still there. But I missed it...
We make a confused face...with a questioning look.
You missed the sunset because you didn't come on time. This place is so beautiful.
(We thought to ourselves, no need to repeat it, right? You've known since you arrived… that you've made a big mistake.)
And let me tell you, this side, sitting here at sunset, is very chill and romantic.
Let's take a look at the menu.
Looking at the menu, the prices are not expensive (for us, we think the prices are not expensive).
Our food is more like snacks than a real meal, like this kind of atmosphere.
"I'd like to be your snack, baby."
The first dish is deep-fried catfish cake, which is delicious with a bouncy texture. It is not mixed with flour and costs 100 baht. The dish is very large.
The glass noodle salad came in a large portion, the size of a medium plate. At first, we thought it would be a small plate like the ones we have at home.
Spicy, 80 baht
Spicy shrimp and fish, super spicy.
Price 80 baht
Shrimp fried rice is 30 baht per plate.
The fried rice was delicious, but there were only two shrimps on top.
The papaya salad costs 30 baht per plate, but this plate we are not very satisfied with because when we eat it, we can smell the green chili.
(I wonder if anyone understands the word "smelly green pepper" 55)
For this meal, all 5 dishes, bottled water, beer, and ice cost us 400 baht. With an atmosphere like this, it's definitely worth it.
Full and happy, today I must thank the catering team, whoever they are, for setting up here.
If it weren't for Nui, I wouldn't be able to relax at this shop. Otherwise, all the shops would have been closed for sure.
The simple atmosphere feels so good. Sitting by the sea, watching the stars, eating delicious food, and going back to sleep to have a good dream.
Accommodation
After a wonderful night, Nui arrived at her accommodation very late.
But there is still a feeling of waking up to greet the sun, you know.
They say that waking up early is a profit of life. Especially when traveling like this, the morning always makes us encounter good things.
This view is from the accommodation, you know. If you walk a little further inside, you'll find it.
I don't know if anyone else is the same... I've never woken up early when I'm at home.
But every time I travel, I wake up before the rooster crows.
Let me introduce you to some accommodations, in case you are interested.
This place is called Suan Phu Pha Green View, located on the main road of La Han Sai - Ta Phaya.
If you exit the dam, turn left and drive for about 6 kilometers. The accommodation will have a large kilometer marker on the left-hand side.
This place may not be luxurious, but it has a great atmosphere.
The price is 450 baht per night, including air conditioning and a hot water heater. Breakfast is not included.
You can drive your car and park it near the accommodation.
Let's take a look inside the room. The bed is probably 5 feet wide. The size of the room is considered spacious. Most importantly, it's clean.
The morning air was so refreshing, but I didn't spend much time at the accommodation because I didn't have much time on this trip.
After checking out, Nui went back to the dam to see what the sea was like during the day.
Lam Nang Rong Dam at noon
Wow, wow, it's really the sea. The water may not be as clear as at Ta Chai, you know.
But it makes the people here very refreshed and cheerful.
There's a sandy beach too... We were stunned, how did they do it?
And our talkativeness, we have to ask, right?
It means that the sand was used to fill the artificial beach so that the people of Buriram could come and play in the water.
This is another tourist attraction that allows Buriram people to experience the sea, and it's a really cool freshwater sea.
The happiness of the children, but there are a lot of teenagers as well.
There are many people who come as a family, so we understand the feeling.
As a child, I longed to play in the water, and my mother allowed me to jump into the canal. It was so much fun.
We asked the children if they would jump, so I could take a picture.
The younger brother replied, "No, I'm diving."
Then the younger sibling jumped down...
That's... uh, starting to sound suspicious. Haha.
The highlight of this beach is undoubtedly the abundance of fancy inflatable rings.
Vibrant colors, intricate patterns
They also have life jackets for rent at a very affordable price.
Fancy rubber band 20 baht, big black rubber band 30 baht, play all day long.
But we don't remember if the life jackets were 20 or 40 baht.
How could we miss out on using it as a prop? Spread the income.
Actually, I have my own lifebuoy, but I can't show it.
Let's go. Even though we are children of the sea, we have been with the sea since birth.
I can't help but have fun when I see this. Have fun, laugh, and your face will look younger, blending in with the younger people who are playing in the water.
She smiles as if she doesn't have a sea at home. She's having more fun than the kids.
The translation of the text is:
It's so hot, let's run in there! What are we waiting for?
Coconut ice cream in pineapple-filled bread, 20 baht. A great price to beat the heat!
She's more excited about finding food than finding the sea.
Continuing our exploration, there are many shops, both restaurants and food carts.
But if you're coming as a family and want to save money, bringing your own food is also great.
There are many pavilions to sit in, so you don't have to worry about the heat.
Nui's house cooks very often when we go in a large group. It's safe, fun, and most importantly, the food is guaranteed to be delicious.
Let's take a look at the atmosphere of various restaurants.
Oh, I forgot to mention that this side is the other side we took you to last night. This zone is the welfare shop zone, it's lively.
Most people will come to have fun in this zone. This may be because the welfare unit is located here and most of the restaurants are located here.
It's a pity that we didn't get to try any of the restaurants in this area, as we were saving our appetites for the pork leg.
Despite that, I still went to try out the food from street vendors for 2-3 days. The taiyaki was delicious, big pieces for 5 baht. It was great.
Ending another beach trip with a sweet and cold ice cream, perfect for the hot weather.
Although this is not a real sea, it feels no different. The happiness and fun I get are the same.
The 4 pictures below are of the entrance to the restaurant on the other side of the dam. We stopped by to take some photos in case any of you are interested in going there to eat as well.
There are 3 shops next to each other: Pan's shop, Uncle Long-Aun Noi's shop, and Ya's shop.
Nong Hong Castle
The road we will take to the other side of the dam, we will drive past Nong Hong Castle.
Located on the left side of the dam ridge, only 500 meters away from the dam.
Prasat Nong Hong is a small ancient monument consisting of 3 towers.
Which is made of bricks, standing on a laterite base, continuously as a single base.
Facing east, there is a front entrance and exit.
The other 3 doors are fake doors.
The three towers have a plan of a square with twelve corners.
The central prang is larger than the other two.
The original lintel was beautifully decorated with carvings.
This means that the lintel at the northern prang is carved with the image of Narayana riding Garuda above a kala face.
Hands gripping the steering wheel, surrounded by lush greenery.
The lintel of the central prang is carved with the image of Indra riding the Erawan elephant.
The lintel of the southern prang depicts Shiva riding a bull.
In front of the central prang, there is a long walkway extending out. There are stairs at the front and on both sides.
The architectural style and artwork found here are consistent with the Baphuon style of Khmer art, dating back to around the 16th century CE.
In addition, there is another sanctuary or library made of laterite facing south towards the main prang. All buildings are surrounded by a laterite wall with entrance pavilions on the front and back sides. The complex is further enclosed by a U-shaped moat.
If you are passing by, don't miss the opportunity to visit the beautiful Nong Hong Palace.
We believe that... although the images of the past may seem blurry, the beauty still remains.
From the past to the present, our ancestors have preserved it for their descendants to see, study, and learn.
Our Fight Monument
Before returning to the city, we did not miss the opportunity to pay our respects at the Victory Monument.
Our monument is located on the main road of La-han Sai - Ta Phraya, at the entrance of Lam Nang Rong Dam.
The monument is a memorial to our ancestors, both men and women, who sacrificed their lives.
The monument "We Fight" was also built to protect our land.
To commemorate the bravery of the people, police, and soldiers who sacrificed their lives
From the suppression of communist terrorists who obstructed
The construction of the La Han Sai - Ta Phraya road, a strategic route that was successfully completed.
The reason for the construction of this route is because it is a strategic route.
of importance to the security of the country on the Thai-Cambodian border
The railway had to cut through the CPB's sphere of influence, leading the CPB to fiercely oppose its construction by any means possible.
This has resulted in the loss of both civilian officials, police, soldiers, and territorial defense volunteers (TDVs).
And the Thai Volunteer Defense Corps (TVDC) caused the people in the area to gather forces to fight against the communist insurgents.
With such bravery, this path has been successfully completed.
"We Fight" is the name given by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej to the 1st Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, King's Guard.
His Majesty the King has graciously granted permission to use the name of the royal composition "Ra Su" for
"Ra Su Monument" is a symbol of pride in the brave bloodline of the people of Buriram.
And they all pledged to carry on the legacy to preserve the land of Thailand to last forever.
Near the monument, there is also a pavilion where you can sit and relax.
Those who drive through this route when tired or sleepy, besides stopping to pay respects at the We Fight Monument,
You can also rest your eyes and relax your car here.
On the other side of the road, there is the Shrine of Father Nong Hong, which is also revered by the people of Non Din Daeng.
This court will hold an annual event every December.
The appearance of the court, although it may seem strange, is still beautiful. Anyway, I've arrived home.
Let's stop by to pay our respects and bring good luck.
After leaving the Nong Hong Shrine, we drove back into the city.
We've come all the way to Buriram, so we can't just stop here and go sightseeing, right?
Jeng Nam Pork Leg Restaurant
The road from Non Din Daeng district to Buriram city, of course, must pass through Nang Rong district.
In Nang Rong district, there is a rumor that there is a delicious pork leg shop.
Just driving past the shop, you can smell it. Actually, there are two shops: Lakkana's shop and Jingnam's shop.
Today, we stopped by Jing Nam Restaurant because most locals recommended this place.
The sign is clearly visible. The shop is located on Chokchai - Dech Udom Road.
The restaurant is packed today.
The main menu is pork leg, and there are other a la carte dishes as well.
But for us today, we came with two people. We're afraid we won't be able to finish the whole leg if we order it.
That's enough. This dish of chopped pork leg with crispy pork rind is 120 baht. Two plates of plain rice and two steamed buns.
That was so filling we could barely walk.
In terms of taste, I must say it was delicious. The flavors were well-balanced and not greasy, and the pickled mustard greens were a generous topping.
The meat was tender, but we preferred the crispy pork skin over the chopped pork leg.
Steaming hot, fluffy mantou paired with pork leg - a perfect match.
I ended this trip seriously with deliciousness.
We believe that every place we have the opportunity to visit is a good memory.
This is an experience that we can't find anywhere else, except by going and seeing it for ourselves.
I want my friends to love traveling as much as I do. I want them to go out and explore the world, to open their minds to new perspectives.
Try traveling in a way you've never traveled before. Try eating in a way you've never eaten before.
Venture into places you wouldn't normally consider, for you might just discover hidden gems that will leave a lasting impression.
