Visitors to Phuket Town these days will be greeted by a splash of color on the walls of buildings in the old town. This initiative, known as the 100 of Arts Phuket project, began with an experiment on Dibuk Road near the Si Rae Restaurant, a popular spot for tourists to take photos and enjoy local Phuket cuisine. The project, titled "Sweets, Art, and House Number 100," saw the owner of house number 100 invite artists and enthusiasts to paint murals on the walls of their own home, based on the concept of "sweets and art." This initiative quickly became a new landmark in Phuket. Shortly after, Phuket was designated by UNESCO as a Creative City of Gastronomy (anyone who has visited Phuket knows that the island offers a wide variety of cuisines, from Western and Eastern to traditional and fusion). To celebrate this prestigious award, a group of young Phuket residents under the name So Phuket launched the F.A.T Phuket (Foot Art Old Town) project. This project invited Thai and international street artists to create 12 murals throughout Phuket Town, each telling a story about the connection between the lives of Phuket people and food.

In fact, this project is still ongoing, as there are 2 more paintings that have not yet been painted. Originally, I planned to write a review when all the paintings were completed. However, as it has been raining almost constantly in Phuket lately, I don't know when it will be finished. So I'd better do a review now so that my friends who are planning to visit Phuket will have a clue and won't have to search for it themselves.

In addition to the images from the two projects mentioned above, I would like to add some other interesting Street art spots near Phuket Town. Let's go and see them! Street art of the 100 of Arts Phuket project, art snacks and house number 100

Coordinates 7.8862064,98.3877519 (Point A on the map)

Located at the intersection of Debuk Road and Yaowarat Road, it is a point with a variety of images from various artists on a wall about 30 meters long.

These images tell the story of desserts through fun artwork in the style of each artist. Street Art paintings in the F.A.T project

"น้องมาร์ดี" by Alex Face on the wall of the Charter Building, Phang Nga Road ...

Coordinates 7.883579,98.3898431 (Point N on the map)

This image is the first image of the project that was completed. However, there were objections from some local people who felt that such an image should not be on the wall of an old building. The So Phuket group, which was the driving force behind the project, therefore asked the artist to remove the image on May 9, 2016, after the artwork had served its purpose for a month. This was the beginning of the awareness and interest in the project, which has continued to the present day.

This image conveys the meaning of a Phuket tradition after childbirth, where a red tiffin carrier filled with sweets and boiled eggs is presented to relatives as a gesture of congratulations and to welcome the new family member.

The picture used to be on the other side of the wall of the yellow building.

Not far apart, there is a picture on the wall at the entrance to the parking lot of the Sinthavee Hotel. Walk well, be careful not to miss it 555 ... The pictures will be on both sides of the entrance, drawn by artists ‪WKchacoal‬ and ‎BeerPitch‬ ‬‬

Coordinates 7.883631, 98.390055 (point D-F) on the map

One image is "Gopee" or coffee in the language of Phuket people. Opposite is a picture of a hornbill (hornbill family), which is a local animal of Phuket. And the image of a tiger that hides meaning as well.

If you look closely, there are a lot of colors to capture in this area.

Walk a little further and you will find another picture in front of the Sintavee Hotel. At first glance, this picture looks like an animal face in the style of the artist "Rukkit", but it hides the meaning of the Vegetarian Festival, which is a great festival of Phuket province. .. The picture includes many symbols that we will find in the Vegetarian Festival, such as firecrackers, 9 lamps

Coordinates 7.883679, 98.389803 (Point C on the map)

From this point, we continue walking against the traffic. We will come across a three-way intersection. On the left-hand side is an art shop. If it is closed, we will be able to see artwork on the shop's metal door. (This is just a bonus, the shop is closed, so you can't see it. Haha)

Coordinates 7.883589, 98.389424

Across the street or at the intersection, there is a restaurant called "Khun Jeed Yot Pak", another famous restaurant in Phuket. (I like the Rad Na here, a little off topic but still related to food, hehe) ... and in the alley next to the restaurant, we will see the murals on both sides. The wall of Khun Jeed Yot Pak is the work of the artist Meu bon, which depicts the Phuket Turtle Walking Festival. It is an atmosphere of a picnic by the sea, waiting for the turtles to come up and lay their eggs at night. But later, Phuket became a tourist city, the beaches were full of people, so the turtles hardly came up to lay their eggs anymore. This festival had to disappear over time. This picture clearly tells the story of the fun atmosphere of this festival.

The opposite side is a picture of a Nian lion during the Chinese New Year festival, by the artist Lolay.

Coordinates 7.883726, 98.389311 (Points L and M on the map)

Continue walking and don't just focus on looking for pictures on the walls. The buildings in this area are also beautiful, especially the Kasikorn Bank building, which was newly built in the Chino-Portuguese style. The On On Hotel on the opposite side is also worth a look.

And next to Kasikorn Thai Bank, there will be an old building of Bangkok Bank of Commerce. You will see another picture clearly from the street. This picture is still the same lion, this time you can see its face clearly. Drawn by Lolay as usual.

Coordinates: 7.883831, 98.387939 (Point K on the map)

Just a little further, you will find the entrance to the shrine. Don't hesitate, walk in. You will find another image that is different from the others. It is a painting of a "Ka-re" puppet, used in the Phuket people's ancestral worship ceremony, painted by a foreign artist from Russia, Ludmila Letnikova. Of course, ancestral worship is also related to food, because the offerings consist of a variety of savory and sweet dishes.

Coordinates: 7.883846, 98.387850 (Point J on the map)

Okay, we've reached the beginning of Phang Nga Road, but we're not done yet. Here, there are two more paintings by artist Pichit Paidan. One depicts a stall selling "o-tau," a local favorite in Phuket. Nearby, there's a painting of an "a-ma" (grandmother) sitting with a cheerful smile. It looks so lifelike!

Coordinates: 7.883748, 98.387445 (Point I on the map)

Oh... Don't forget to find the ball. The artist forgot to leave it. Hehe.

The following is a picture of a red turtle cake, which is used to worship the gods during the Por Tor festival because it is believed to bring longevity like a turtle. I remember going to the Por Tor festival every year as a child. I was somewhat interested in turtles, but mostly I went to buy toys because this festival is one of the festivals in Phuket where there are a lot of shops selling things. This picture was also taken by Alex Face.

Located right at the mouth of Soi Rommanee, or in the heart of Phuket's Old Town ... This location is easy to find, but parking is difficult and photography is also difficult due to limited space.

Coordinates 7.884833, 98.389087 (Point B on the map)

Next is a picture of an eagle, located in the same area as the red turtle. It hides the symbols and colors of various childhood snacks, along with the familiar pattern of a "pothong" car or bus in Phuket. Drawn by artist Rakkit.

The next image reflects the morning life of people at the fresh market (Ban San). I especially like this picture because the costumes and postures are just right, blending in with the location perfectly... It's a picture of Nong Mardi pushing a basket by the artist Alex Face.

Coordinates: 7.884519, 98.386358 (Point H on the map)

Plus some heavenly balloons on the opposite wall.

And more, and more.

The mural at the parking lot of "Lad Ploy Khong" inside Lime Light Avenue, not far from the Old Town.

Coordinates 7.886798,98.3906527 (Point G on the map)

Stop by for lunch at the food court and take some pictures too.

Alex Face's younger brother Mardi at the intersection of Phuket Rajabhat University.

Coordinates 7.908181, 98.391072 ... This picture was probably drawn many years ago. Recently, Nong Mardi has been in the news, so it has received more attention.

Street art at the abandoned building near Ao Makham Port

Coordinates 7.829871,98.4045158

This spot also features a variety of artists, including "Alex face" and "Mue bon," who painted as part of the F.A.T project. Many of the paintings are several years old… If you're looking for a raw vibe, this is the place to be.

Near the abandoned building is an artist's house named Khun Jieb... This house welcomes various artists and tourists who come to visit the Street art... Everyone who comes will stop by to sign on the wall in Khun Jieb's house as a souvenir, so now it's full of signatures... Whoever goes, find the signature "Mr. Mod" lol

The coordinates I used are from Google Maps, so there might be some minor discrepancies. ... When looking at the artwork, understanding the artist's intended message can make the experience more enjoyable and insightful. ... Unfortunately, I don't have any official information from the relevant parties yet, so my presentation may not be comprehensive. I apologize for that. But I think that's the beauty of art. ... Everyone has different preferences and interpretations, and what matters most is that it brings joy to the viewer, right?
