" Recording a journey to find the meaning of life "
Introduction!
"A journey to find the meaning of life" - This time, I've tried to review "Penang" for those who don't know Penang or what Penang is, what are the interesting places to visit, why should you visit it at least once, and why wealthy Thais in the past sent their children to study in Penang. In this review, I will try to gather all the valuable information you deserve, including travel procedures, details you should know to truly understand the civilization of Penang, and how to travel there in a fun and budget-friendly way. I believe that after this review, it will be another trip that many people can use the information I have shared to their advantage.
" Penang City F e a t . India "
Penang City: Malaysia
"Penang" is one of the 13 states that make up the Federation of Malaysia. Originally, the first Malays called it Pulau Wasatu or the Single Island. Later, it was found on a sailing map called Pulau Pinang or Betel Nut Island. Later, the British called it Prince of Wales Island
George Town, the capital of Penang, is a World Heritage City along with the city of Malacca. With the culture of the British colonial era since the late 18th century, Penang still has a Western feel that we can see today.
**Upon arriving in Penang, you'll immediately notice a distinct difference from other Malaysian cities. The first thing that strikes you is the unique population, predominantly Chinese with a touch of Little India. The locals are generally kind, quiet, and unassuming, exuding a gentle and friendly demeanor.**
**Penang's rich heritage, a blend of Chinese and Malay influences, is evident in its architecture, cuisine, attire, and culture. The city boasts a vibrant Chinese civilization, reflected in its distinctive temples, jetties, assembly halls, and mansions. Moreover, Penang is renowned for its delectable street food, a must-try for any visitor. Don't miss out on Penang Laksa, Char Kway Teow (stir-fried noodles), Rojak (a type of salad), and Curry Mee.**

Travel
I chose to travel by airline as usual, with the added benefit of being economical (saving both money and time). This trip, I got a promotion from AirAsia for flights + accommodation. I booked through Expedia. I would like to add that during the period when AirAsia releases promotions, if anyone is afraid of not being able to book in time like everyone else, a good way to avoid the booking website crashing is to visit this website or Airasiago. You can compare prices and book as you like. The travel time from Don Mueang (Bangkok) to Penang is approximately 1.40 hours. In Malaysia, the time is 1 hour ahead of Thailand.
"Love is real, really climb..climb often"
The flight arrived in Penang at around 3pm, and after going through immigration, it was already 6pm. In Malaysia, there is no need to fill out an immigration form like in other countries. Travelers can simply scan their fingerprints (both index fingers) to go through immigration. After completing the immigration procedures, you can take a taxi, bus, or rent a car to get to the city center. If you haven't exchanged money yet, you can do so at the airport. However, it is recommended to exchange money in Thailand before you come, as the rate will be better. When you exchange money back, do it at Penang airport, as the rate will be better than at home.
Then buy a SIM card with internet access (around 25 ringgit) at the airport. There are many providers to choose from, but getting around Penang is actually quite convenient. Especially in the old town, you can walk everywhere. But if you're worried about getting lost, it's a good idea to buy a SIM card so you can find your accommodation and tourist attractions. There is no free Wi-Fi in the city center.
Penang Transportation System: Rapid Penang
Rapid Penang
Penang is served by Rapid Penang buses throughout the city. For those arriving at the airport and wanting to take public transportation to the city center, specifically the GEORGETOWN (Old Town) area, this is the most budget-friendly option. After exiting the terminal building, turn left and you will find a bus stop. The stop displays routes that go to the city center and stop at the Komtar Mall (the city's bus terminal). The routes are 401E, 401, 102, and AT. However, in reality, only the 401E (which is rarely available) and AT routes are operational. The sign at the stop reads "JETI AIRPORT" and the fare is RM2.70 per person (approximately 27 Thai baht). The journey to Komtar takes about 30-40 minutes. From Komtar, it's about a 1 km walk to your accommodation. Check in, have some food, rest, and prepare for your adventures the next day.
"Convenience with Public Transportation"
Sleeping/Accommodation
For accommodation, I recommend staying in the Georgetown area, which is the city center (Old Town). There are many accommodations available, ranging from hundreds to thousands of baht. Hostels are particularly abundant and affordable. I chose to stay at Chulia Court The Tavern, a renovated old hotel that is stylish, luxurious, and reasonably priced. It also includes breakfast. The ground floor houses a restaurant, cafe, and bar that transforms into a lively bar at night. It is located in the heart of the city on Lebuh Chulia street.
Pros:
- The surrounding area is full of restaurants and bars, making it exciting and lively.
- It is close to convenience stores and easy to walk around the city.
- Many buses pass by.
Cons:
- It can be noisy at night because of the bar downstairs. If you want a quiet stay, this might not be the best option.
However, if you prioritize convenience, cleanliness, and a complete experience, I recommend this place. They offer both dorm rooms and private rooms.

Morning Kiss Penang
I woke up early today. Luckily, the sun was shining gently and there was no rain. I went out to capture the morning atmosphere of Penang and see what the city was like. But before I set off, I tried the food from the hotel first. I needed the energy to walk around the city.

Exploring Penang's Heritage: A Walk Around Georgetown
Penang offers a variety of ways to explore its vibrant city, from renting bicycles (5 ringgit) and motorbikes to hopping on buses (including the free CAT bus) or simply strolling through the historic streets. However, for the most authentic Penang experience, I recommend taking a walk around the city. This allows you to truly immerse yourself in the local way of life, witnessing the daily routines of the people, the once-grand buildings that speak of a prosperous past, and the city's dedication to preserving its heritage. Join me as we explore the captivating beauty of Georgetown, a city rightfully recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

When it comes to food, I didn't take many pictures, but restaurants can be found all over the city. Whether it's Chinese, Indian, or even local cuisine, you'll have your pick of everything from street food to fine dining. However, I recommend trying the local street food. It's affordable, the flavors might not be as strong, but I guarantee it will suit the Thai palate.
" A city of inspiration "
Art of Penang
The walls of buildings around the city are adorned with artistic creations. You'll find street art, murals, and hipster-inspired works with photogenic corners scattered throughout the historic district. This is a Penang hallmark, and its unique character makes it a must-see for any visitor to the city.
