Hey!!! You
Have you ever been to Mae Hong Son during the rainy season?
Nui has been to Mae Hong Son a total of 6 times, each time overlapping the rainy season.
Whether it's the beginning of the rainy season, the middle of the rainy season, or the end of the rainy season, there is only one time that is the winter season.
I wonder what you did during the rainy season.
...both wet and soggy...
But let me tell you, don't, don't think like me yet. If you haven't met him yet.
Nui gives 3 simple reasons before we start our journey:
- Mae Hong Son is a city of fog in 3 seasons. You can see fog in any season, but the fog in the rainy season is super refreshing, super moist, beautiful, cool and comfortable.
- The rainy season plane tickets are so cheap that they are almost free. How cheap is that?
- Go ahead, no need to plan, no need to fight for a place to sleep, no need to fight for a place to eat. Just walk in and choose whatever you want. Plus, it's super cheap.
Just 3 reasons are enough to make you pack your bags and head to Mae Hong Son, but there are many more reasons why you should visit Mae Hong Son during the rainy season.
This trip we departed from Phuket, heading to Chiang Mai with AirAsia.
Because it's a direct flight and the cheapest ever! This time, there's no way you can't fly, right?
I told you it's the rainy season, tickets are cheap, round trip just over a thousand from Phuket.
But if you are in Bangkok or other provinces, you don't have to come to Phuket to board the plane. 555
It takes about 2 hours to fly from Phuket.
This review also includes a video clip.

Once you arrive in Chiang Mai, there are many ways to continue to Mae Hong Son, whether by plane,
There are also Kan Air and Bangkok Airways, or you can take a bus, van, or minivan.
For us, the most convenient option is to rent a car and drive ourselves. This way, we can stop wherever we want and eat wherever we want.
No need to waste time waiting for the bus to leave.
This time we used a local car rental service, which is available in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son. That is:
The company NorthWheels If you go to Chiang Mai, try contacting them. The price is not expensive.
This time we used a Pajero, we like its size and sturdiness because we will be traveling for a long time, going up and down the valley for 5 days.
If you're ready, let's go!
This trip will be a circular driving route.
Starting from Chiang Mai - Mae La Noi - Mueang - Pang Ma Pha - Pai - Chiang Mai
Our first night's destination was Mae La Noi.
This is the first time I've driven this route, as I usually go through Pai.
The road is beautiful and much easier to drive than the Pai route.
Before reaching Mae La Noi, you will pass through Mae Sariang district. I secretly regret that this trip did not include Mae Sariang.
But we also stopped by the Bo Kaeo Pine Forest, which was on the way.
It's like Nami Island, let's hold hands and imagine together.
—-
We didn't stay here for long, just stopped by to take some photos because it's such a beautiful place.
But this is not the main destination of the day. Before it gets dark,
The journey from Chiang Mai to Mae La Noi district takes almost 5 hours, making it a rather long and tiring trip.
Despite the long drive, the time flew by thanks to the captivating scenery. The lush greenery and vibrant colors kept us entertained throughout the journey.
Some have streams by the road... nice.
We arrived at Mae La Noi in the evening. The first night we stayed at Herntai Resort
This is a budget-friendly accommodation that will leave you in awe.
However, Nui was secretly saddened by the miscalculation of the date, as the time she traveled was during the early rainy season.
Here, they are just starting to prepare the soil for planting rice.
Heinta has a wide variety of rooms, from small rooms for two people to large rooms for eight people.
The price starts at 790 baht, including breakfast.
We didn't book a room in advance when we went. I told you to go without a plan.
So we stayed in this room. This house has 2 rooms next to each other.
Hello
Nui confirms and leads here.
If you are planning to travel during this period, from July to October, it will be very beautiful.
It's the green season, the rice fields are full of lush green rice, and the forests are lush.
Oh! I want to go back again
Nui said that these raindrops are the charm of the rainy season. Sitting and watching the rain
Looking out into the distance, it makes us relax and think a lot.
And for dinner, I didn't go far. I ate at the Hein Tai.
As I mentioned, I arrived in the evening and didn't have the chance to explore the village or talk to the locals.
This is... the reason why we have to go back again.
Back to our simple menu, I remember it was Hang Lay curry, fried shiitake mushrooms and some kind of soup. Delicious and inexpensive.
This is a room that can accommodate 3 people. The room is quite spacious and has 2 floors.
Sleep well tonight, tomorrow we will climb the mountain together.
Waking up to a bright morning, we left our accommodation at 6 am today.
Because I will go up the mountain to see the sea of fog, go see the rice terraces at the Mae Lanoy Royal Project, and go to Ban Huai Hom to try coffee.
This is the way up the mountain... that makes Nui's blood pump.
Excited and happy
I don't know if others feel the same way... Every journey
Even a blade of grass, we can say it's beautiful ... because at that moment, we are happy.
Everything around me looks so beautiful.
However, some of our friends said, "Where's the beauty? I don't get it."
The comments are different, aren't they?
We stopped almost all the way because each point had different fog.
There are both light, flowing, thick, and soft types.
Along the way, besides the mist that tempted us to stop the car,
There are still interesting ways of life in the community. Our curiosity is overwhelming.
Because we always believe that... travel is learning. It is an experience and knowledge that we will not be able to
You can find it anywhere... if you don't go see it for yourself.
After being obsessed with the sea of fog for a long time, it was hours, two hours at all.
Next, we headed to the terraced rice fields at the Mae La Noi Royal Project.
The entrance to the Royal Project, we will pass through the village. It looks quiet now.
Because all the villagers have gone out to work in the fields.
The day she went up was June 23, 2016.
It's the time when the rice has just been planted.
There are many plots here, but I didn't stay in this area for long. I just took some small pictures.
But if it's the end of September, Nui thinks that this place will be bright yellow for sure, while the Mae La Noi district area is still lush green.
And the final destination of our climb today is
Visiting a coffee shop in Ban Huai Hom.
We heard that the coffee from Ban Huai Hom is so delicious, aromatic, and strong that even Starbucks buys it.
However, only fresh beans are accepted, roasted abroad, and then shipped back to Starbucks in our country.
In the brand Muai Jai
It was a great opportunity that day to meet with Ta Lae, the first coffee grower in Ban Huai Hom.
Talea is a very cheerful and talkative person who always smiles.
According to Taley, the story began when missionaries came to spread religion.
And wanting the villagers to have income, he brought in coffee seedlings for the villagers to plant, which continues to this day.
The villagers are strong and use it as a profession to support themselves, passing it on to their children and grandchildren.
A simple cup of coffee, but the aroma and taste are truly extraordinary.
The fragrant aroma that tickled our noses, making us turn to see where it was coming from.
The more I get a taste of it... it just feels right.
Coffee lovers, you have to try it for yourself.
But they also have ready-made ones for sale, both roasted and ground.
And there was civet coffee too, but Nui didn't get to try it that day.
I was busy walking around looking for the first coffee tree and eating fresh macadamia nuts.
And finally, Mae Lan Noi with delicious home-cooked food from Krua Baan Ta Lae.
The mushrooms are so delicious, crunchy and crispy.
After eating until full, it was time for Nui to continue her journey, because her destination and sleeping place for tonight was
Mae Hong Son city, which takes about 3 hours to travel. If anyone drives along this route in November
We will also see the sunflower field.
As usual, we arrived in the city in the evening.
Tonight we are staying at the Imperial Mae Hong Son.
This is the first time I've stayed in a big hotel in Mae Hong Son. Usually, I prefer to stay in chill homestays.
This time, I want to try staying in a different type of accommodation to see that there are actually good, standard accommodations in Mae Hong Son.
The room is quite spacious, with a full kitchen, ample parking, a swimming pool, and breakfast included. It's a great deal!
After checking in, we went to refuel and inject some coffee into our bodies.
At Coffee Moning, not only is it a coffee shop, but it's also a place to stay.
During my first visit to Mae Hong Son in 2009, I stayed here. Back then, it cost 500 baht per night for a room with a shared bathroom.
I'm not sure about the price now, Nui forgot to ask.
The atmosphere in the city is rather quiet, with few people around.
I secretly love this kind of atmosphere. I feel like we're really living the slow life.
Walk slowly, sit leisurely, sip coffee, read books, write postcards.
Let's continue to Ban Huay Mae Thao, a village of Kayan long-neck women.
I've been traveling a lot, and if I said this was the first time I've seen this, would it be cheesy?
Baan Huai Maeo Seu is located just a few kilometers from the city center. You can easily drive there yourself.
And let me tell you, Karen girls are very beautiful, you know.
Besides the Karen women, there are also plenty of hand-woven fabrics for sale here.
She is so beautiful.
As dusk approached, Nui set out to see the light at Doi Kong Mu Temple.
The atmosphere of the sun setting behind the mountain is incredibly romantic.
But then, I forgot that the sun sets behind the mountain, not falls into the water like in Phuket.
By the time we got up there, the sun had already set long ago.
Let's go pay respects to the relics instead, okay?
As the twilight hours faded, the next morning dawned, and I immediately drove to Pang Ung.
It takes almost an hour from the city to Pang Ung, but for the atmosphere of the morning by the water, it's worth it.
This is the third time I've stood here.
The sun began to rise, Nui hurried back to the Doi Kong Mu temple.
I've heard that the sunrise in the morning is very beautiful, with fog covering it.
We were a little disappointed that the clouds were quite thick, but just seeing the fog made us happy.
The journey is not over yet. In just a few hours, Nui has been driving around, as if she won't go home until she has seen everything.
Because we also stopped by the Sutongpe Bridge, which is said to be the longest bamboo bridge in Thailand.
Driven by faith and serving as a bridge to success.
Let's start praying from the bridgehead from the village and walk to the end of the bridge at Phusama Garden.
Today's dream is shattered. The rice has not been planted yet. I just started plowing the field. Who in July, August, and September can send pictures to show off?
They knew it would be beautiful for sure. Jealousy is strong.
And then we forgot to pray... We have to go back again.
After that, Nui went back to the hotel to eat, before continuing her journey.
On the way out of Mae Hong Son to Pang Ma Pha, I passed a coffee shop called Chang Thai. It's a coffee shop
Beautiful view, nice atmosphere, stop by. In our style, whenever we find a coffee shop, we have to stop.
The machine is also affordable. I'm so happy.
The shop only sells drinks, no food.
A sweet cappuccino in the shape of a heart
Iced milk is perfect for sweet women.
Relaxing with our legs dangling in the air, enjoying the cool breeze and the beautiful scenery.
It takes about 1.5 hours to travel from Mae Hong Son district to Pang Ma Pha district.
And this is the first time for an overnight stay at Pang Ma Pha.
This district is the one that Nui has used as a passage for the past 5 times.
This time, I can't miss it. Otherwise, Pang Ma Pha will be disappointed.
The main reason is that Nui wanted to see the sea of fog at Ban Ja Bo. Driving from Pai is quite far, but she forgot to consider that there are homestays there.
Until I got to sleep at The Rock Resort
I never thought that this small district that we used to overlook would have such lovely accommodations and such pleasant weather.
All houses are similar in appearance, but differ in view and room size.
Nui's house is this one, a small house by the river.
The interior is really beautiful.
Simple but cute, very clean, very beautiful bathroom
Now we're really enjoying ourselves after checking in and sleeping in, because we woke up early for 2 days straight.
I don't know when I fell asleep, but when I woke up, it was pitch black. I went out to find some food to order, which was still available here and there at night.
The Rock is not only a resort, but also a coffee shop and restaurant. Anyone passing by this route
Stop by and try it. It's a good place to park your car, rest, and relax your eyes.
On the morning of the 3rd, we woke up at 5:30 am to head to Ban Ja Bo, where we would eat hanging noodles.
At Sergeant Bo's house
This morning's sea of fog is not as thick as expected.
But it looks very refreshing.
Because it rained last night, it just stopped when I arrived.
At first I was sad that I wouldn't see anything, but now I'm happy with what I have.
What do you see in this picture?
Don't say you saw the fat otter, lol.
See, we don't have to fight anyone for a photo. There are very few people. I love this moment the most.
It's time for noodles.
Steaming hot ... Hot soup like this on a cold day is a perfect match.
The taste is delicious, I don't know if it's because I'm hungry or not.
After eating, let's go for a walk before going back to take a shower and then driving to Pai.
This morning in the village
Everyone is still living their lives as usual.
Cooking with fish... preparing to go out and earn a living.
It really makes me want to stay at a homestay here.
I secretly asked the price, it's only 200 baht per person, which is very cheap.
Back from Sergeant Bo's house
He spent a long time at The Rock before moving on.
On the way, we encountered a little rain, but I was surprised to find that the rainy season in Mae Hong Son is not heavy and does not rain every day.
Along the way, passing through the Kiw Lom viewpoint
Because it's a spot where I feel the breeze is really good.
Every time I stand there, I feel the cold wind against my skin.
Upon arriving in Pai, we must first check in.
I slept in Pai for 2 nights, each night I slept in a different place.
Psychologically, I want to experience many places to see how different each place is.
The first night we stayed at Pai River Corner, which is right on the Pai River and next to the walking street.
Or, to put it simply, walk down the walking street until you reach the Pai River.
The Pai River Corner will be on the right hand corner.
But after checking in for a bit, Nui walked out to rent a motorbike.
No need to wonder why you should rent a motorbike when you have already rented a car.
For Nui, living in Pai, a motorcycle is the best and most enjoyable way to get around.
It's easy to drive, but it might be a bit black. But you get to experience more of Pai, so it's worth it.
The rental price of a motorbike is around 100-250 baht, depending on the type of motorbike.
and old and new, you see.
As soon as I got the car, I drove around until I reached Pai Canyon, also known as Kong Lan.
It is recommended to go in the late afternoon. It's very enjoyable, and most importantly, it's not hot. Walking up the hill is not tiring.
Try going at noon. You'll barely be able to run down.
After returning from the filming set, I went for a walk to find delicious food at the Pai Walking Street.
Eat as you go, stop when you're full.
Buy a bottle of beer and sit in front of the room to drink.
Before going to bed, soak in the jacuzzi comfortably.
The charm of Pai River Conner is located on the Pai River.
Enjoy a stylish and relaxing breakfast by the river.
Breakfast will be a la carte, with a set menu for us to choose from.
After breakfast, I'm going to enjoy the morning at the accommodation. I want to slow down for a day. I have to travel back tomorrow.
Rolling around, sleeping, reading books, soaking in the jacuzzi until it was time to check out. We managed to move our belongings and change hotels smoothly.
What are you waiting for?
Let's continue the trip. I've been to Pai many times, this is my 6th time.
I can only think about where to go next, even though there are many places to visit, whether it's a viewpoint, a temple, or a monastery.
Waterfall, fountain, Pai Bridge
This time, I drove into various alleys, exploring the routes.
Found a bicycle prop, took a picture before the owner came.
For those who like to ride, it's okay, but for me, I think it's too tiring.
Because some sections are quite steep and hilly, we chubby people must not lose our concept. We still love comfort.
We drove around until we reached the Tha Pai Hot Springs, which is located within a national park. The entrance fee is 50 baht per person, and an additional 20 baht for motorcycles.
There are both hot springs for bathing and soaking.
And the hot spring to boil eggs and the hot spring where nothing is allowed to be done
And boiling eggs is best for us.
You can stop by the Suan Dusit Uthayan shop to buy eggs. 6 eggs for 50 baht (or not?)
There are also egg baskets for you to borrow to boil eggs.
Soak for about 10-15 minutes, the eggs will be cooked.
Just a heads up, the egg white won't be cooked through, only the yolk will be.
At first, I tried peeling it, but the egg white was runny, so I continued to boil it.
No matter how long I waited, it wouldn't ripen... Until I couldn't wait any longer, I peeled it open.
Oops! The yolk is cooked.
Now I understand.
After boiling the eggs, we drove to a restaurant to eat.
Many people say that Pai is expensive.
That's not true. It depends on what you choose. On this trip, I traveled on a budget, but I didn't starve myself.
Stopped by a local restaurant for a quick bite. The portions were huge and only cost 30-40 baht!
However, I don't recommend the walking street area for cooked-to-order food, because for my first meal, I paid 90 baht per dish.
You see, I told you it's up to us to choose.
But I have to end the day by sitting stupidly, letting my brain go at the walking street again.
Roughly translated, it means: "I'm a bit stingy when it comes to spending money on food, but when it comes to coffee and cake, I'm willing to splurge!" The "555" at the end is a Thai way of expressing laughter.
Today, Nui chose to eat at Prathom 1, a small wooden restaurant on the side of the Pai Walking Street.
There are 2 seating zones: the inside, which is a floor-level table similar to a Japanese table.
But Nui chose to sit in front of the shop... her friends sat and watched this and that.
Looking at the past tourist attractions
During the rainy season like this, it is mostly Westerners, almost all ages. There are almost no Thais and Chinese.
It looks peaceful. I really want you to try going during the rainy season.
We didn't order much today, just one coffee each and one brownie to share.
It's delicious, I must say.
Nui can't remember what this coffee is called because the name is quite long.
But it's delicious, rich, well-rounded, with a hint of caramel.
But if you really ask wrong, this brownie piece right here.
To be honest, it exceeded my expectations. I didn't expect much from this brownie, as it was the only one left that day.
But it's delicious. It's the best brownie I've ever had.
It's not an exaggeration, but I have to say that everyone's taste buds are different.
Nui loves it. It's crispy on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. It's really delicious.
Sitting until full is not the same as eating until full.
After returning to the accommodation, we took a shower and freshened up. On the last night, Nui stayed at The Quarter Hotel.
Tonight, let's focus on comfort... but don't worry, it won't be expensive.
The heavy rain during the rainy season is great. I love it. It's cheap and good.
Our room is like this. The bathroom is very spacious and is divided into 2 zones.
A wide balcony
My favorite thing is to have a swimming pool ... Sometimes I'm tired of sunbathing all day in the late evening. Swimming in the pool is very relaxing.
I woke up early and rushed to Yunlai by car.
Who hasn't been to Yunlai, raise your hand.
Don't miss it! You can drive up yourself, but the road is a bit narrow, so drive carefully.
But I assure you it's worth it. Nui drove up around 6am.
To sit and wait for the sunrise, to watch the sea of fog, to sit still, holding hands.
Have you ever been sitting there, feeling good, when you suddenly hear a faint sound?
Why did you wake up to watch the sunrise... Doesn't the sun rise at your house?
We both looked at each other ... and then laughed.
5555 It's true.
The sun is getting stronger, the fog is starting to clear.
Nui came back to cook, bathe, and get dressed before taking all the happiness home.
And for breakfast here is good.
Although it is the rainy season, there is still a buffet breakfast here.
Because the customers here are almost full... Think about it, while other places are quiet and deserted, this place is almost full. It must be really good.
Not just any small buffet, mind you, but a full-blown feast.
Goodbye Mae Hong Son, see you again.
No matter how many years pass, Mae Hong Son will always be the city that I love.
Do you have any places that you visit most often?
Have you ever visited that place in a different season?
Rainy season... It's not just about being wet and soggy.
But there are still so many charms left.
Come and visit Mae Hong Son during the rainy season... and you will fall in love with it just like I do.
