On Mother's Day, I took my mother to Shabu Neng Nai, a restaurant located in Soi Phetchaburi 35. I had been to this restaurant twice before, both times ordering set menus. The quality of the food was excellent, and I was very satisfied. This time, I wanted to try the buffet option to see if the quality of the food would be lower. I had previously been to a Shabu Neng Nai branch near Nawamin and was not impressed. The pork slices were so thin that they were almost transparent and would tear easily when picked up with chopsticks.
The restaurant's page mentions a Mother's Day promotion where mothers eat for free, limited to one per table. We decided to book a table for lunch, anticipating that dinner would be crowded.
Location Guide
This section provides a brief guide to the location of the Shabu Nang Nai restaurant.
From Pratunam Intersection:
- Look for the Thanachart Bank, Phetchaburi Branch, on the left-hand side.
- Turn left into Soi Phetchaburi 35, which is located just past the bank.
- Drive approximately 200-300 meters into the soi.
- The restaurant will be on your left-hand side, opposite a construction site (likely a condominium).
From Makkasan Intersection, Witthayu Road, or Phetchaburi Expressway:
- Turn left at the Phetchaburi Expressway exit and make a U-turn under the bridge crossing the Pratunam Intersection.
- Follow the directions above from Pratunam Intersection.
Let's get started and see how the restaurant and food are. The restaurant is not very big, and there are not many customers. On Mother's Day lunch, there were only about 4 tables of customers in the restaurant, including my table. There were two small groups, one large group, and my medium-sized group.
Let's take a look at the menu.
There are three herbal drinks to choose from. The first glass, which Jum chose, is pandan leaf water, which is not very fragrant. The next glass, which Leb chose, is lemongrass water. This one is delicious and helps to cut through the richness of the food.
The broth comes in three options: clear, black, and tom yum. Jum chose the clear and black broths. Her mother said the broth was very, very delicious.
My brother's hot pot was served with two types of broth: black soup and tom yum soup. I tried the tom yum soup, and it was unlike any tom yum I'd had before. It had a unique and delicious flavor, with a fragrant aroma. Although it was unusual, it was still tasty. However, my brother mentioned that after boiling the meat in the tom yum broth, the strong flavor of the soup overpowered the taste of the meat, making it less enjoyable. We asked the staff if it was possible to change the broth, and they kindly agreed without any additional charge. Their kindness was truly appreciated.
Change the soup base to a clear broth only.
There are three dipping sauces to choose from: ponzu, white sesame, and seafood. Choose your favorite.
Customizable with additional equipment.
They also offer cheese. I've never had cheese in shabu-shabu before, so I'm going to give it a try. Hehe.
For buffet customers, you can serve yourself vegetables.
It's time to order meat. I was a little worried about whether the quality would match the price, but when it arrived, I was not disappointed. It was so good! Let's see what we have.
Several plates of pork neck were ordered. Slurp, slurp.
The pork belly has the perfect amount of fat, not too much but not too little to lose its identity as pork belly. For me, it's perfect.
This plate of sliced beef is for my brother, sister-in-law, and nephews and nieces.
Marbled beef. I don't eat beef, but just looking at the marbling makes my mouth water.
Pork liver, when paired with cheese, is a terrible combination.
Chicken meat, in my opinion, is not very tasty when used in shabu-shabu dishes.
The fish maw is delicious, but the pork sausage is average. It feels porous and crumbly when chewed.
Fresh shrimp, fresh squid, dory fish, shrimp roe, fish balls, rugby balls, fish tofu, fried shrimp balls, ordered for seconds like crazy 55555
A little more about the nutritional value of eggs, please. Hehe.
Boil...boil...boil.......and then boil
Shabu with cheese is also a good combination. People who like cheese will be very happy.
After enjoying the savory dishes, it's time for some sweet treats. As the saying goes, "A meal without dessert is like a day without sunshine."
These ice creams are not included in the buffet. Each stick is 15 baht, and the ice cream sandwiches are also 15 baht. I am very impressed with the quality of the food. I hope the restaurant will maintain this quality forever. I will invite my friends who were disappointed with other branches to come and be impressed with this branch again. And let's say goodbye with a picture of ice cream.....
Note: The taste of the food described in this post is my personal opinion. Taste can vary depending on individual preferences. However, if you have the opportunity to try it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
