The Hidden Gem of Laem Phromthep: A Breathtaking Sunset Viewpoint

While Laem Phromthep is renowned as the quintessential sunset spot in Phuket, venturing beyond the crowded viewpoint offers a truly unique experience. Today, we'll explore the hidden gem of Laem Phromthep: the serene and secluded viewpoint at the Laem Phromthep Monastery.

Located just 400 meters before the main Laem Phromthep car park, the monastery's entrance is easily accessible from Rawai Beach. After a short 300-meter drive, you'll find ample parking within the monastery grounds.

The viewpoint itself is a small balcony nestled behind the monastery's two-story western wing. This secluded location offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Andaman Sea, free from the throngs of tourists that flock to the main viewpoint.

As the sun begins its descent, the sky transforms into a canvas of vibrant hues, painting the horizon with shades of orange, pink, and purple. The gentle sea breeze carries the sound of crashing waves, creating a symphony of nature that soothes the soul.

This hidden viewpoint at the Laem Phromthep Monastery provides a tranquil and intimate setting to witness the magic of a Phuket sunset. It's an ideal escape for those seeking a more authentic and less crowded experience.

This balcony offers a clear view of the sunset, with Laem Phromthep standing tall in the foreground. In the evenings, sailboats and tourist boats often sail in the area to watch the sunset, creating a beautiful atmosphere.

For those who have visited Laem Phromthep and are looking for another stunning viewpoint, look no further than the "Windmill Viewpoint." Located slightly north of Laem Phromthep, it can be accessed via the coastal road leading to Nai Harn Beach (or, for those coming from Nai Harn, take the road towards Ya Nui Beach-Laem Phromthep). A short, thrilling ride up a steep hill on a motorbike will bring you to your destination. The large white windmills serve as an easy landmark. The viewpoint is situated right there.

This beach typically attracts a moderate number of tourists, significantly fewer than Laem Phromthep. Tour groups rarely visit this location, and most visitors arrive by car.

The wind turbine viewpoint is situated on a westward-facing hillside, offering panoramic views from Ya Nui Beach to Nai Harn Beach. During certain seasons, the scene is adorned with beautiful wildflowers, and thrill-seekers can be seen paragliding in the wind.

The next point is considered the most unseen, hidden not far from the viewpoint of the 3 famous bays of Phuket. However, the journey to this viewpoint is not easy. It requires a rather rugged dirt road (the entrance to Ao Nui) and then a 10-minute walk through the open forest to reach the viewpoint called "Pha Hin Dam". For those who want to visit this place, there is a good review of the route available at this link.

The breathtaking view from "Pha Hin Dam" viewpoint offers a panoramic vista of Nai Harn Beach, Ya Nui Beach, the Windmill Viewpoint, Laem Phromthep, the vast Andaman Sea, and various islands, all captured in a single frame. The stunning scenery is so captivating that it could easily be mistaken for an aerial view.

For those staying in the central part of Phuket Island, such as Patong Beach, and do not want to travel far, I would recommend this place. "Karon Beach" ... A beach full of rocks next to Patong Beach on the north side, or it could be called Patong Cape. Karon Beach is divided into sections, from the area next to Patong Beach to the end of the beach, which is about 1 km away. But the point I would recommend to watch the sunset is on the side near Patong, or in front of the Diamond Cliff Resort and Spa.

This spot features a narrow sandy beach and scattered small and large rocks along the coastline. The unique aspect is the opportunity to stand on the rocks with the golden light and the setting sun as a backdrop.

On some days, you might see couples taking pre-wedding photos, or even fishermen, fishing boats, sailboats, and even large cruise ships serving as props in the photos.

I hope these sunset spots are to your liking. You can find maps for all four locations in this link.
