"Pang Ung" is a popular tourist destination and a popular destination for many people.

This trip, we started our journey by motorbike wave 125 from Chiang Mai to visit many places.

But in this post, we want to focus specifically on "Pang Ung". Let's see how beautiful it is and what we don't know yet.


After a winding journey of approximately 40 kilometers from the city of Mae Hong Son, taking about 1.5 hours, we arrived at the "Rung Thai" village, also known as Pang Ung.

My stomach is growling, it's time to explore the village.

A must-try dish is the "Khao Jii," a delicious rice dish.

Before arriving here, we learned that a resident of this village had the honor of welcoming His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX).

Upon inquiring with the villagers, we discovered that the individual is Uncle Pala, who operates a coffee shop within the village.

The elderly gentleman recounted the history of this village.

Previously, this area was a dangerous zone bordering Myanmar, with various military forces present. There were widespread activities of transportation, cultivation of plants and narcotics, and encroachment on the area for deforestation. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit therefore had the royal initiative to gather minority groups in that area and develop their living standards. They promoted the profession of planting trees and building reservoirs, with the royal intention of creating border security and improving the lives of the people.


According to Uncle Pala, the village is actually called "Ruen Thai" and is part of the Pang Tong 2 Royal Project.

The villagers in this community do not have surnames because they belong to various ethnic minority groups. There are a total of 24 households in the village. Initially, the villagers worked for the Royal Project, planting trees. According to the uncle, the beautiful pine trees were all planted by the villagers. When they planted them, they did not expect them to grow so beautiful. (There is a faint sound of laughter in the background.)


My uncle once received His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej when he was the village headman of Rung Thai.

My uncle said that even though he is not Thai, he loves the King very much. His Majesty has immeasurable kindness.

At the end of the conversation, we could feel my uncle's emotion and we also realized His Majesty's great kindness.

For us, His Majesty is a great giver. The Royal Project Pang Tong was established to solve various problems in the area.

Time has passed until it has become a must-visit tourist destination in Thailand.

For Uncle, who runs a small coffee shop and has a few homestays, he grows coffee and tea leaves used in his shop in his backyard.

We tried it and it tasted very good.


We talked to Uncle until it got dark, so we should say goodbye and go back to rest and wait to see the beautiful view tomorrow morning.

Waking up to the beauty of this place, we understand why everyone wants to visit. It's simply breathtaking, especially in the morning when you can watch the sunrise with a light mist floating on the water.

Leaving the village behind, we embarked on a journey towards the heart of the city. Many who have visited Pang Ung have likely passed by this hidden gem: the Royal Villa of Pang Tong. Seizing the opportunity, we decided to explore its serene grounds.

Upon entering, we were greeted by a symphony of foreign languages, a testament to the villa's international allure. Notably absent were Thai voices, suggesting that this tranquil haven remains largely undiscovered by local tourists.

The villa's beauty unfolded before us, captivating our senses with its meticulously landscaped gardens and intricate architecture. Let us delve deeper into the wonders that awaited us within…

The field is full of adorable sheep.

Inside, you will find the Pang Tong Royal Residence, where His Royal Highness Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn worked.

From Mae Hong Son, go to the front of the Sai Ngam Market and ask for the Pang Ung car queue.

There are two scheduled songthaews (shared taxis) that travel to Pang Ung each day.

Departures at 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, returns at 6:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the front of Sai Yai Market directly to the park. The fare is approximately 600 baht.
