Amidst the electrifying tension of anticipation, the taste of success must be indescribably delightful.
As someone who dislikes disappointment, especially when it comes to trying new restaurants, I rely heavily on the internet and Google to find delicious eateries. A quick search usually leads me to familiar, highly-rated establishments with numerous positive reviews. While these tried-and-true options are a safe bet, I recently discovered a hidden gem that I believe deserves a chance. Located along the Khlong Tavee Wattana canal, Canale House is a charming restaurant that a friend recommended I try. Let's embark on a culinary adventure to explore the flavors of this new establishment.
Atmosphere and Decoration of the Restaurant
"Because traveling makes our world bigger" This sentence made me and my girlfriend join hands to travel and learn about the world. We have a small page called "Escape Work to Travel" and a blog called www.ibreak2travel.com
Reading to this line, we want to say... Looking back several years ago when we first met, "I was a tourist who had to work a regular job, and my girlfriend was a regular worker who wanted to travel." We were so different, but when we started dating, the two differences found a balance that led us to the point where we wanted to create a page to invite our friends who work to travel with us.
We can go, anyone can go like us. We would like to ask you to visit our page and like it. It will be a great encouragement for us. So we will know that you are always with us. Work hard and know how to travel. https://www.facebook.com/ibreak2travel/ http://ibreak2travel.com/
Canale House is prominently located at the entrance of Soi Phetkasem 102/4. The restaurant boasts a prime location along the banks of the Thawi Watthana Canal. The restaurant's design features a loft style with wood, steel, concrete, and glass as its primary structural elements. The space is divided into several zones, including a family zone (located by the pool with a play area for children), a riverside relaxation zone, an air-conditioned zone, an indoor music zone, a karaoke zone, and a coffee shop zone.
The parking lot is spacious, making it an ideal spot to relax and unwind in the evening atmosphere.
A friendly PR representative greets you at the entrance.
This is a family zone with an artificial grass field for children to play on.
The restaurant has a large area with ample parking space (approximately 50 cars). It is suitable for group gatherings, family events, or company outings.

Evening atmosphere
As the sun sets and the lights in the restaurant come on, the atmosphere becomes even more pleasant. It's the perfect setting for a relaxing evening. The only thing I would criticize about the atmosphere is the mosquitoes. It's difficult for a riverside restaurant not to have mosquitoes (it's the same in every restaurant), but the restaurant does provide mosquito repellent and mosquito spray for customers.
My favorite part is that the restaurant is designed with people with disabilities and the elderly in mind. I really appreciate this.
So, for the restaurant's atmosphere, I give it a 4.5/5 (I'm deducting a little for the mosquitoes).
Food and taste
The restaurant's cuisine is international, but the highlight is the Thai food and seafood, which is incredibly fresh and delicious. Since I was planning to review this restaurant (my junior told me it was really good), I came with my family and ordered several dishes so we could try a variety of things. (If I had come with my girlfriend, we would have only been able to eat 3-4 dishes.) So, let's start the review.
1. Golden needle mushroom with salt
When the waiter brought it out, I thought it was fried taro sticks. But when I took the first bite, I was hooked. Wow!!! This is the perfect appetizer! The golden needle mushrooms are perfectly battered and fried (and they stay crispy for a long time), and they're tossed with sliced chilies, chopped scallions, and a touch of salt. This dish is so addictive.
Golden needle mushroom with salt
Price 150 baht
Review score 5/5
2. Scallops
Just hearing the name makes me shudder 55555 This menu is a dish of boiled cockles, served in a small cup with fresh garlic, sliced chilies, lime, sliced lemongrass, and mint leaves. The taste is moderate, not too spicy, not too hot. The cockles are really fresh, boiled just right (1 small cup has many cockles). The presentation is very creative, I like their idea. 1 cup served is just the right size.
The only criticism is that the chopped lemongrass is placed at the very bottom. When scooping to eat, we can't scoop all the chopped lemongrass in 1 bite because the lemongrass is tightly packed at the bottom. I suggest dividing the chopped lemongrass and sprinkling it as a layer on top, without putting too much, so that it is easy to scoop and eat.
Scallops
Price: 120 Baht
Review Score: 4/5
Review: The scallops were difficult to scoop and the flavor wasn't spicy enough for my taste (although it might be perfect for others).
3. Spicy Green Papaya Salad with Blue Crab
This is not my usual order, as I prefer papaya salad with fermented fish paste (5555555). However, since my family doesn't eat fermented fish paste, I ended up with this fancy crab papaya salad! Needless to say, the ingredients were fresh, clean, and of high quality.
The flavor profile of this papaya salad leans towards the sweet side, typical of Thai-style papaya salad, but not overly sweet. The papaya remains crunchy, and the vegetables are crisp. The overall taste is savory but not overpowering, making it suitable for both children and foreigners.
Price: 180 baht
Review score: 4/5
4. River Prawn Salad
Upon arrival, the dish impressed me with its grand presentation. The succulent river prawns were grilled to perfection, retaining their juicy heads. The accompanying nahm phrik pla (a spicy and sour dipping sauce) was generously poured over the prawns. Unlike regular nahm jim, nahm phrik pla features partially cooked meat and incorporates lemongrass or galangal, with lime juice completing the cooking process.
The salad had a pleasantly tart and slightly spicy flavor, with a subtle sweetness. The combination of the tender prawns and the flavorful nahm phrik pla created a delightful culinary experience.
River Prawn Salad
Personally, when I eat spicy salads like this, I usually have them with alcohol (which numbs my taste buds, haha). So, I expected the salad to be spicier. However, my wife, who doesn't like spicy food very much (spicy but not too spicy), said it was just right. I asked other people in the house, and they all said it was okay.
The price is 600 baht. For this price, with large, firm river prawns, I think it's very good value.
Review score 4.5/5. I deducted a few points because it wasn't spicy enough for a liquor lover like me, haha.
5. Spicy Catfish Curry (Thai Style)
This dish is a real crowd-pleaser! The sour and spicy broth, made with tamarind and palm sugar, is perfectly balanced and incredibly flavorful. The catfish is fried to perfection, resulting in a crispy exterior and tender, flaky flesh that remains intact even after simmering in the broth.
Crispy Snakehead Fish (Thai Style)
This highly recommended dish is a must-try for every table.
Price: 350 Baht
Rating: 5/5 - It's perfect, no deductions needed!
6. Floating Sea Bass
The waiter recommended this dish with a "3-star" rating, so I couldn't resist trying it. And let me tell you, it lived up to its reputation as the restaurant's signature dish. The portion size was generous, and the presentation was impressive.
Deep-Fried Sea Bass with Herbs
This dish features a generous portion of sea bass, expertly fried to a perfect crisp. The exterior boasts a delightful crunch, while the interior remains moist and tender. The subtle aroma of makrut lime and aromatic herbs enhances the flavor profile, creating a truly satisfying culinary experience.
Key Highlights:
- Exceptional Value: The generous portion size and exquisite taste justify the 450 baht price tag.
- Top-Tier Choice: This dish consistently ranks among the top two favorites among customers.
- Highly Recommended: With a perfect 5/5 review score, this dish is a must-try for any seafood enthusiast.
7. Stir-fried Crab Claw with Chili and Salt
This dish is of a good standard. As my mother is from Phetchaburi, I have eaten a lot of seafood since I was a child. If any crab dish can satisfy me, that restaurant must be really good.
The crab claw in this dish is sweet and fresh. The stir-fried crab claw with chili and salt is delicious and of a good standard. However, I have eaten this dish in Hong Kong before (at that time, I admit that it was so delicious that I had to lick my fingers).
Crab Curry with Salt and Pepper:
This dish features sweet and delicious crab meat with a crispy batter that stays crunchy even when cold. While the flavors were good, I suggested to the restaurant that they could enhance the dish by adding more spices. Although enjoyable, the curry lacked the depth of flavor I've experienced elsewhere.
Price: 400 Baht
Review Score: 3.7/5
I believe the flavors will be more intense on my next visit.

8. Hot Plate Shrimp:
"Knowing the risks, I'll take a chance" - this song was written for this dish! The Hot Plate Shrimp features shrimp stir-fried with shrimp roe. Oh my, what a delight! The shrimp are cooked to perfection, allowing the flavors to permeate the meat.
Spicy Stir-Fried Shrimp
Fresh, succulent shrimp infused with the aromatic fragrance of stir-fried spices and shrimp roe. The rich, savory flavors are a perfect complement to steamed rice. While I acknowledge that this dish is likely high in calories, I am willing to indulge in its deliciousness.
Price: 350 Baht
Review Score: 4.5/5 (0.5 deducted for its potential to contribute to weight gain)
9. River Prawn Tom Yum in Young Coconut
"You'll regret it if you don't order this," is all I can say. No, really, let me elaborate. The tom yum broth is simply perfect, suitable for all ages and nationalities. It embodies all the qualities that make a great tom yum soup.
Tom Yum Goong with Young Coconut
The most important thing is that they are not stingy with the ingredients. Large prawns are put into the hot pot, along with straw mushrooms and young coconut. Oh... I slurped up all the soup (competing with my younger brother).
Note: Next time, you can break off the prawn claws. They get in the way.
Price: 400 baht
Review score: 5/5 If the prawn claws were broken off, I would give it 6/5.
10. Taro Snow
After enjoying nine main courses, let's end with the restaurant's recommended dessert. This taro snow dish is delicious. To be honest, the sugar-coated exterior isn't overly sweet.
The inner taro flesh is soft and creamy, but not mushy. It's a unique texture. Usually, taro is either dry or crumbly, but this dish is excellent.
Taro Snow
If you like taro (I mean real taro), you should order this for dessert. It's delicious.
Price 200 baht
Review score 5/5 I really love taro (I mean real taro).
Beverages
In addition to regular beverages such as plain water, soft drinks, and blended fruit juices, I also ordered Hoegaarden Rosee and Strongbow Gold Apple beers. The restaurant offers a wide selection of delicious beers, so feel free to order one to your liking. The prices are reasonable and comparable to other restaurants.
Hoegaarden Rosee 195 THB
Strongbow (Gold Apple) 90 THB
The total cost of the meal is as follows:
- Total price: 4,065 baht
- Birthday discount: 10% (food only) My younger brother's birthday is this month, so we got a discount by chance.
- Actual payment: 3,760 baht (including VAT)
- No service charge. The staff was very friendly and deserves a tip.
After finishing all the dishes (but before checking out), I asked the manager for permission to review the restaurant. The restaurant probably knew because they saw me taking pictures of the food with a flash (hehe).
The restaurant allowed me to take pictures for the review. They invited me to take pictures of the surroundings, including from the top of the lighthouse, and also invited me to take pictures inside the kitchen.
Why Canale House?
Canale House offers a relaxing and friendly atmosphere with delicious food at reasonable prices. The owners are attentive to all customers, including the elderly and disabled. The restaurant is clean, easily accessible, and has ample parking. The restrooms are spacious, clean, and have wide doors with grab bars for wheelchair users.
If you're in the Thon Buri area, Thawai Watthana district, or Bang Khae, there's no reason not to try Canale House.
