I have been wondering about this myself. When people invited me to visit Phi Phi Island in recent years, I always declined. The photos I saw online were overwhelming. Last weekend, a friend from Love Andaman called and invited me to Phi Phi. I almost declined again, but when they mentioned visiting Phi Phi Island, my eyes lit up. I have wanted to visit Phi Phi Island for a long time, but tours over the past decade rarely included it in their itineraries. So, I decided to give it a try. I was curious to see if Phi Phi was as bad as the news reports suggested.

Departing from the boat ramp near Rassada Pier in Phuket City, we were initially greeted by rain clouds. However, as we approached Phi Phi Island, the skies gradually cleared, revealing the vibrant blue water beneath.

We headed straight to Maya Bay first. Although it was a long weekend, the number of tourists wasn't as overwhelming as the pictures circulating online suggested (much to our relief). The water at Maya Bay still seemed as beautiful and clear as ever, but the increased number of boats and tourists made it less peaceful than before. Another aspect that likely hasn't remained the same is the coral reef in front of the bay (I didn't dive down to check, but I believe that's the case). The beach area has designated swimming zones, which is a great improvement in terms of safety and also enhances the overall visual appeal.

From Ao Ma Ha Ya, I walked to Ao Lo Sama on the other side of the island. The water here is clear, but the bay is full of ropes used to tie up boats, making it less scenic. However, it is not a long walk, so I recommend visiting it.

Departing from "Maya Bay," we sailed to "Pi Leh Bay," my personal favorite. On a clear day like today, Pi Leh Bay is stunning. The water is crystal clear, with distinct layers. It's an ideal spot for floating and soaking in the seawater. Officials keep a close eye on things here, ensuring that boats are parked at the edge of the cliffs, away from traffic.

From Maya Bay, the boat took us to "Bamboo Island" or "Phi Phi Leh," which is about 10 minutes away. As soon as the boat approached the island, we could clearly see the crystal-clear blue water contrasting with the pristine white sand beach, just as we had imagined.

This is a blank paragraph.

We spent a considerable amount of time on Phi Phi Island, soaking up the beauty and tranquility before returning to the shores of Phuket.

The usual Love program is to have lunch at Phi Phi Don Island. However, as some members had to return today, we returned to Phuket earlier than usual. ... Nevertheless, for me, just visiting Phi Phi Leh and Bamboo Island was well worth it for today.

In summary, if you are wondering whether Phi Phi Island is still worth visiting, the answer is: it depends on your expectations. If you are looking for white sandy beaches, uncrowded areas, and beautiful coral reefs, then Phi Phi Island might not be the best choice for you. However, if you are not expecting too much, Phi Phi Island still has some advantages, such as:

  • It is accessible year-round, unlike some islands on the Andaman coast that are closed during certain seasons.
  • It is easily accessible from Phuket, with a travel time of only 50 minutes.
  • The water at Phi Phi Leh Island and Bamboo Island is crystal clear, especially on sunny days. However, the number of visitors can vary.
  • The cost of a day trip to Phi Phi Island is relatively affordable, starting from around 1,000 baht, which is cheaper than other islands.
