Greetings! The familiar sounds of "Poon Poon" and "Krachuk Krachuk" fill the air as we arrive in Hong Kong, a city we've visited countless times. It's impossible to say whether we're more passionate about photography (#สายแชะ) or shopping (#สายช๊อบ). We strike a perfect balance, with my wife's uncanny ability to visit almost every store in the King Power duty-free zone upon arrival. Her dedication deserves a round of applause! As for me, I indulge in both photography and shopping, depending on the budget my wife allocates for each trip.
This is the monsoon season, but it coincides with the "Hong Kong Mega Sale 2017." Don't worry about the rain, as you'll be sheltered under the shopping mall's roof. Therefore, I've dubbed this trip "Shop till you drop, I'll capture it @ Hong Kong Mega Sale 2017." We have the destination and the concept; all we need now are the photos. Are you ready? Let's go!
I traveled to Hong Kong on Thai Airways, which my aunt did not support (just kidding, don't be mad 555). But I liked it because the seats were soft and wide. The plane was big, a B777 on the way there and an A350 on the way back. It was comfortable to sit in. But before boarding, let's review King Power to see what's interesting.
After passing through immigration, you will find a walkway leading to Gates A, B, and C on the left and Gates D, E, F, and G on the right. Regardless of which direction you choose, you will find similar shops. However, if you choose a direction and then find a product you like that is out of stock, you will have to run to the other side to find it. Therefore, allow plenty of time, as my partner and I once had to take off our shoes and run to catch our flight! Just a friendly reminder.
For this trip, I will also visit (or rather, take a nap at) the King Power Lounge. It's located at the last intersection near Gate A. Turn right at Gate A, B, and C, and the King Power Lounge is on the left. I can enter with two people, including a companion, using my SCB King Power card. (This review is full of hidden advertisements, haha!) However, the friendly staff suggested that I visit the newly opened lounge, which is just opposite. It's quite spacious and has tables for working on computers and charging mobile phones.
The New King Power lounge offers a variety of amenities, including snacks, sandwiches, pastries, steamed buns, and an automated coffee, tea, milk, juice, and soft drink dispenser. Additionally, there is a delicious chicken congee available, which is perfect for a morning snack. The lounge also features a unique milk frother that creates a perfect foam for your coffee, making it the ideal drink to enjoy before a flight.
It took me approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to travel to Hong Kong, arriving at Chep Lap Kok Hong Kong International Airport.
Let's move on to Hong Kong. First, let's take a look at the immigration process.
There are two main ways to enter Hong Kong, as many people use.
1. I took the A21 bus to get to the city center. I only used this method twice, as I found the second method to be more comfortable.
2. Take the Airport Express into the city. You can choose between a one-way pass (price unknown) or a round-trip pass for 350 HKD. On the return trip, if you don't need the card anymore, you can return it for a 50 HKD refund.
Let's take a look at the hotel. The hotel I booked is the Prudential Hotel, located at Jordan Station. (I usually stay at Benito, but this time I wanted to try a new place for my review.)
From AE, get off at Kowloon Station and take the lift to G floor. Then, take the Free Shuttle bus K1 to the first stop, MTR Jordan. Once you get off, walk back in the direction the bus came from and you will find an alleyway. Turn right into the alleyway and you will arrive at the hotel. Alternatively, take the MTR Subway and get off at Jordan Station. Take Exit E and go up the escalator to the plaza where the hotel is located.
Let's take a tour of the room. I'm staying in room 1608, which is on the 16th floor. As soon as I opened the door, I was surprised to see that there was no bed in the room (I hadn't noticed the stairs yet because I was busy dragging my luggage into the room). As soon as I entered, I was thrilled. The room is a duplex with two floors. The lower floor is the living room, which has a TV, refrigerator, and electric kettle. The ceiling is about 4 meters high.
The upper floor features a spiral staircase and a telephone with internet access. (This hotel really has some unique features!)
The bathroom amenities are provided by L'Occitane, a premium brand known for its high-quality products.
The 16th floor lounge offers comfortable seating and stunning views, perfect for conversation.
Our first stop in Hong Kong is Citigate, a shopping mall known for its discounted, albeit slightly outdated, merchandise. While prices have risen in recent years, they remain comparable to those in Thailand, with the exception of high-end brands that offer significant discounts. I was unable to capture the entirety of the mall in my footage.
To reach Citigate Mall, take the MTR orange line (Tung Chung) to the last stop. Exit via Exit C and walk directly into the mall.
New Balance: Up to 60% off | Adidas: Selected items on sale | Puma: Up to 70% off
The Body Shop sale offers significant discounts, with Columbia offering 70% off and 21 Club offering 80% off. Nike also has a sale, but the exact discount is not specified.
Kate Spade: 60% off | Michael Kors: 50% off
Take the elevator to the 10th floor. There is another zone for bags and shoes (mostly shoes).
Two Giordana for 99 HKD.
After completing the process at Citigate, I must confess that I didn't gain anything from it. However, I still recommend visiting the mall, as individual preferences vary. I believe women would particularly enjoy it. I then traveled to Harbour City and took a stroll around the harbor. The area boasts a vast array of shops, and I must admit, I spent a significant amount of money there. H&M offers items ranging from $10 HKD to $100 HKD.
Calvin Klein has numerous shops, each dedicated to a specific product category. Most offer 50% discounts. Similarly, GAP also offers 50% discounts. (I couldn't resist buying a Calvin Klein Jeans bag at a 50% discount (HKD 845)).
Zara Sale: Lowest prices start at $99 HKD.
On the morning of the 2nd, I brought everyone to eat tofu and soy milk. Every time I come to Hong Kong, I have to eat it every time.
Travel directions: Take the MTR to Sham Shui Po Station, Exit B2. Once you exit, you will see a 7-11 on the opposite side of the street. Walk straight ahead for no more than 50 meters, and you will find the destination. (Please note: Do not arrive too early, as the destination may not be open yet.)
We had our fill of tofu pudding. To be honest, I've never been to Che Kung Temple on any of my previous trips to Hong Kong. So this time, I thought I'd give it a go. The hype is real, haha!
Travel directions: Take the train for 3 lines, 1-2 stations each. Finally, get off at the brown line, Che Kung Temple St.
Inside the temple.
Magnificent and enchanting
I arrived at the China Hongkong City building, located near Harbour City. It's about a 200-meter walk to the right of Harbour City, across the traffic light. There are a fair number of shops here, but they are mixed in with travel agencies.
The Esprit Outlets are also located here.
Let's end our day in Mongkok. It's crowded with people and shops, and it's hot, but the lights are amazing. It's a great way to experience the nightlife.
Let's stop by Langham Place. I'm going to take a picture of the Brown Bear there.
On the final morning, I woke up late and checked out at noon. I then went to In-town check-in at Kowloon St. I noticed a mall called Element that I had never been to, so I decided to check it out. I highly recommend this place for those who enjoy a bit of solitude. The discounted prices are comparable to other malls, but it's much less crowded. They have a wide variety of products, making for a comfortable shopping experience.
I then traveled to Causeway Bay and visited the SOGO department store. The prices there were significantly reduced.
Even at the airport, just before leaving, there's a Walt Disney & SANRIO shop at Terminal 2.
Even after landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport, before immigration, I was hit with another round of Clarin. My butt is definitely going to be sore! Haha!
In conclusion, thank you all for following along. It was a long one, but I wanted to show you how amazing the Mega Sale is. If any information is incorrect, I apologize in advance.
